The price on eBay isn't that bad. I looked into last time you said they shot up in price and really it's just the Timmys and Poindexters they buy into the hype. Good way to make quick cash though.

Is a good way to make some quick cash for people who want to scalp, but hopefully everyone who wants one can get one reasonably priced. Amazon already has these as sold out now though :/

How does it look if you compare Compedium to the individual Guides of the trilogy? And how about the Remastered version of the Guide? All 3 in 1, each with 500 pages in one? That compedium is about DS1 Remastered, DS2 SofS and DS3 Complete? The single ones have more infromation on how to defeat the enemy etc and where to go maybe Compedium just shows everything in general like Encyclopedia?

The Compendium does cover Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls III The Fire Fades, i.e all games are covered in their latest, final versions with all DLC content included.
The main difference is that the individual guides contain a lot of information about how to play the game, how to navigate each area step by step, how to defeat each enemy / boss, stats & weaknesses, and so on. In short, the individual guides are much more gameplay-oriented; whereas the Compendium is more about chronicling and "archiving" all the content of the games. The information here is mostly taken from the games themselves, and focuses more on their lore rather than the gameplay component.
I think in the individual guides, the walkthrough (which contains all the maps) usually consists of between 100-200 pages each. In the Compendium, there is no walkthrough, so it's just the maps themselves and a brief bit of flavor text for each area; which explains the discrepancy in the total page count. The guides will zoom in on different parts of the map and cover each one step by step, whereas the Compendium gives just one complete map of each area.
To go into more detail with the different books:
      - The Dark Souls Remastered guide is the most "up to date" out of the main game guides, as it does cover the Artorias of the Abyss expansion as well.
      - The Dark Souls II guide is the least up to date of the main game guides, as it only covers the base game of Dark Souls II, and it covers the vanilla version, which is significantly different from SotFS. Does not include any of the Lost Crowns DLC or post-launch updates (so Aldia isn't present, either).
      - The Dark Souls III guide was NOT made by FuturePress; it was made by Prima instead, so the style and quality are different (worse). It also only covers the base game. For pure gameplay reasons, this one is useless as it doesn't go into any details on enemy / boss movesets, or even any of their stat weaknesses. All information here is very barebones.
      - The DS2 and DS3 books contain all item descriptions, whereas neither of the DS1 books do that.
      - None of the 3 guides contain the NPC dialogue, only the NPC questlines and how to progress through them.
      - The Compendium lists ALL item descriptions, and also ALL NPC dialogue including the unlock conditions / requirements for every single thing.
      - The area maps for the entirety of DS1, and the base game of DS2, are largely the same between the guides and the Compendium, but the Compendium obviously updates the DS2 maps to match the SotFS release, while adding in all the Lost Crowns areas.
      - The area maps for DS3 were entirely reworked in the Compendium, since the original guide was made by Prima, so FuturePress wound up making their own maps for the Compendium (thank goodness!), also including the Ashes of Ariandel & Ringed City DLC areas.
      - Important note about the maps: The area maps in the guides show literally every single item that appears in-game, which includes common consumables, and other items. The Compendium leaves out many of the "common" / "unimportant" items and primarily lists all the rare / unique items that you can obtain. In this sense, it does omit some information compared to the individual guides.
      - This doesn't make a big difference when it comes to DS3, because the original Prima guide only shows the *locations* of common items, without actually telling you *what* item it is.
      - Another difference with the maps is that the DS1 and DS2 guides also show you all enemy locations (unfortunately, the DS3 Prima guide does not do this). Enemy locations are not present on the Compendium maps, however.
So in short, it is pretty accurate to say that the guides are more gameplay-focused, and the Compendium is more lore-focused (but also great for completionists, as it lists out every single item across all 3 games including how to obtain them; and this list is way more reliable than any Wiki out there). It is less suited for a walkthrough (it will NOT tell you how to go through each game, in what order, to obtain all the items), and more as a reference / overview / "coffee table book".
      Hope that helped!

@@SpektronPS Wow I am surprised You bring me that long and well detailed answer. It's probably best answer I got on youtube ever. Thank you very much. I think I'll buy used DS Remastered and DS2 guides from someone or at least try, because I want to play the basic DS2 and then try SotFS(because hated by fans). Dark souls 3 guide probably will not buy since you said the guide is poor or maybe later... I care about cool maps with findings and description of enemies. For now I got Compedium and read enemies description from DS Wiki. Anyway thanks and Greetings to you Friend.
PS: Looking at your statement, a statement from a fan of From Software games I think will feel right at home joining this group :)
PS2: On the other hand, maybe I'll skip buying individual guides... I already have a Compedium and there are listed items on the maps and the rest stuff I can learn on my own or read in the Wiki, this is probably the best solution right? Of course it is best to learn everything on your own the first time, but still such a guide is tempting :)

I refuse to buy any of these re-releases. I feel Future Press are being really scummy by mass producing & under valuing those of us who have already invested in the previous iterations. How can they also justify re-releasing a (PS4 exclusive) Bloodborne Old Hunters DLC strategy guide drop? It's egregious business practices that hurts the collectors market for the sole reason of min/maxing their profits. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

    • @Ogles
      @Ogles  4 месяца назад +8

I can see where you're coming from because it does take the value down a good bit of the original line of the books. But on the other hand, for people who truly want to read and enjoy the books it allows us to get them for a halfway decent price.
