  • UNBELIEVABLY TUFF KNIFE - COLD STEEL 4 MAX SCOUT/FULL REVIEW. I have had the knife for two years now using it off and on whenever possible so I figured I could do a long term review now. This knife was so much fun doing my normal edc testing as well as the hard use testing. Cold Steel has always impressed me with the heat treat on there knives making them not just durable but also reliable cutting tools as well. This may not be a knife that I will edc but it's definitely one that I keep in my truck just in case. Let me know what you thought and how it did in the testing and let me know if you want to see the testing I did on the Cold Steel SR1 Lite as well.

    I have this knife and really like it. AUS-10 seems like a very capable steel. And from a value perspective it’s a huge win! I got mine on Midway for $49.

    I turned mine into a dedicated Bushcraft knife. I sharpened the spine,(the last inch of spine) and removed the thumbstuds. Deployment is done with inertia either in front, or downward, or by pressing the lock, and it opens super easy. Faster than the studs, which are a bit clumsy to use. I use it every day! I even used it as a dedicated bushcraft knife, and processed a deer with it! It’s an amazing hunting knife! It’s so tough, Joe X couldn’t even break this knife! Thanks for the review!

    Just got mine today. even though I had read the specs, you just don't realize how big and beefy this thing is until you hold it. Unbelievable for the price. Thanks for the awesome review.

    I have the scout, it’s a great outdoor, or job site knife for heavy work, especially in the cold with gloves, etc. I edc it when engaged in those kinds of activities, and have some smaller carries for more casual settings. The Scout has great edge retention, and the blade geometry makes it a very good cutter especially for a knife that big, and keeps up with my thinner “slicey” knives, that would get wrecked doing some of the dumb stuff we get into - this thing is a folding pocket ax, that can easily do some of the regular tasks you would do with a knife like cardboard and cord, but unlike a Civivi or a Bestech, you can lop off a tree branch with it too.

    I own one, and EDC carry it from time to time. It’s really not that bad of a carry. Most of the time I don’t know it’s there. This is my back up bushcraft knife. What impressed me was when I tested it with my ferro rod, I used the tip of the blade, as it has no 90 deg spine, it stayed razor sharp! I also baton’d with it, with complete confidence! Again that Tri lock! I now carry it in my possibles pouch, and sometimes in my pocket. It’s a great conversation starter for sure! Great video! Thanks for the update vid!

    Cold steel Aus10 in my testing runs neck and neck with spyderco VG10. It's also highly responsive to a piece of hard leather no compound needed to realign the apex just a couple passes per side to being the edge right back so long as there isn't any apex damage.

    I EDC this knife on a regular basis but I also carry a slicer with me as well like a Civivi or Kubey knife for example. I use it regularly and have been impressed with how well the steel has held up. I've put it through some serious work and a bit of abuse as well no striking any metal bars but I've gone through a nail or two. The edge was easy to sharpen up as well, was tempted to lay back the edge a bit but I figured keep it as is for the toughness. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

    Definitely want to get a Cold Steel to have at least one beastly knife. Definitely gonna be a Code 4 Tanto I think. Robust but more EDC friendly. Their Tantos look so good. Heard their Heat Treat is on point as well.

    • @matchesburn
      @matchesburn 2 года назад +2

      Code-4 is a great knife. Was the first Cold Steel knife that they made that made me take them seriously and realize that they have some great products. Prior to that, I just kind of wrote them off as "mallninja"-esque due to Lynn Thompson's marketing/antics and because so many of their knives were ridiculously large things no one would carry. Code-4, however, was really well designed. Thin (fat/thick knives are not nice to carry), ergonomic, tough, secure lock-up. The only drawbacks I could give on the knife is that you will definitely want to sit down and break in a Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock knife and that Code-4 took some serious pressure on the backlock to disengage. Another potential drawback is that the aluminum scales on the knife do not give you absurd levels of grip like some scales/handles do. So if you're using this with your hands being wet a lot or something like that, you could have slippage. That's nothing that can't be solved with some grip tape if you so desire.
      I also own a Cold Steel Broken Skull and American Lawman. Both fantastic knives that I can recommend (Broken Skull is a tad big for practical carry, however). If you've ever seen the American Lawman and thought, "Gee, that looks heavy and bulky" - it's not. It's actually a pretty thin and light knife for its size. Oh! And I almost forgot! The TuffLite. Great knife! Some might not take it seriously because it's only a small 2" blade, but you can throw these things anywhere - tackle box, shorts while you walk your dog, whatever. Incredibly light and handy and ergonomic. Wharncliffe blade makes it the bane of cardboard boxes existence. Every cardboard box will fear you.

    • @FriedPi-mc5yt
      @FriedPi-mc5yt 2 года назад

      The Code 4 is a nice knife. As another person said though. The aluminum scales have virtually no texture on them. If you’re looking for something that is a bit more grippy, the Recon 1 is a good option.

      Code 4 tanto is underrated as hell. Hollow ground tanto with a robust tip. It passes through material like it isn't even there. Do your self a favor and get the recon 1 tanto too.

    Hello
    Congratulations for your very good videos.
    I own a 4 Max Scout and I am in love with this beast.
    But I have interrogations. I live in Canada. The price for the Scout is 100.00. The Elite model is 599.00 with S35VN. I was wondering how the Élite will perform especialy when you hit the aluminium bar very hard. I don't thing that the S35VN would get out of this torture test without dammages. Maybe less but just maybe. But at 6 times the price of the Scout I still have 5 others knifes to continue cutting any things. So I thing the best value is the Scout. What do you thing ? Thank you 👍🏻
