If I understand correctly, the monotone kind of rapping he's doing was the result of the depression and emotion involved as he tried to record. He said it was all he could do to just get the words out. As someone who suffers from depression, that hits me hard and makes me feel not so alone. Oh, and Ronnie always has a reason for any effects and processing. To your tastes it's overprocessed, but to others its perfection. Like you alluded to, I bet if you knew his process and understood WHY he did it, you'd see that it's perfect. All of Ronnies stuff is a unique blend of hip hop/metal/electronic/rock. It took me awhile to get used to spoken word part, but then I realized even within that part he's building from mellow spoken word to more aggressive rhythmic rapping. I'm with you, I'm a Metalhead here as well. I couldn't get into their older stuff but this one is decent. The end of the song and lyrics are good depending on your disposition, a little too poppy though for my taste. Almost sounds like Linkin Park. I have never even heard of their music until the revamped I'm not a vampire which is great. The end of "drugs" is good as well but don't want to spoil it. The lead singer dogs on us Metalheads, saying we all work at best buy and if you listen to Taylor Swift you will be better. lol.
