Thank you so much for this! Almost got melatonin for my daughter who doesn’t fall asleep well at night. I didn’t feel settled about it and put it back. I’m glad now I did!
I forgot to add this but my pediatrician recommended magnesium supplement for the kids for helping them to go to sleep. There are gummies called “calm” that we purchased on Amazon. They are not going to knock your child out like melatonin does, but do seem to help and it’s nice to get some extra magnesium into the kids!
I have used melatonin off and on. My oldest son received the most almost all the way through kindergarten so he would go to bed on time and get up on time. Unfortunately, what I noticed is he got extremely defiant and growly during the day the more and more we used it. He also seemed like a zombie at other times. It was very weird. I’ve noticed the same thing in my younger sons when I use it occasionally. So, I’m very hesitant to use it unless very very needed.
I think I was some time of sleep disability so I want to start taking theses bc my grandparents said I should and they’ll help. I’m going to the doctors to see what I could do.
Thanks so much for the information! Is there any way to message you with questions? I wanted to comment on a video of yours about toe walking but figured you would not see it as it is an older video.

@@TheOTGuide thanks so much! I have a 3 and a half year old who seems to be knock kneed and when she runs she still looks like a toddler running. I have been told to wait and she will grow out of it but she will be 4 next spring and I’m thinking she should run more like a 3/4 year old by now. Also my older child who is 8 also had and still has an awkward gait and presses his arms against his body to run. He has improved since he was younger but still not what i would call typical. I have a third child who will be 2 in March and I’m still waiting to see what her gait will be like. I guess I’m just confused as to why both of my older children seem to have Atypical gaits and could it be some genetic thing. I know I deal with a weak core myself and have always. SORRY SO LONG!
Hey there, my apologies for the delay. I'm so sorry you've been having a tough time with your sleep and I hope its improved since you posted your comment. Melatonin can help you fall asleep but it won't help you stay asleep, so if your issue is staying asleep it won't be much use. Personally, I'd focus on building successful sleep hygiene habits before resorting to melatonin.
I think your data is incorrect on the amount of melatonin in OTC products. Matthew Walker has a video on RUclips that states that amounts are 80% lower to 460% higher. You said they can be 400x higher. That’s the equivalent of 40000% higher. Please correct your misinformation.
Hey Samantha, information for this video came from a variety of sources including Andrew Huberman's podcast, "The Huberman Lab." Please see episode 2, "Master Your Sleep & Be More Awake." Around the 1 hour and 20 minute mark, he discusses melatonin dosages in synthetic melatonin. Regardless of the number, the takeaway is that dosages cannot be counted on to be accurate.
