Kendra's enthusiasm is infectious, she has the 'open eye' attitude that makes traveling thru those eyes via the vlogs so fun. She has an underlying 'go with the flow' intelligence and she manages jet lag, which I am horrifically poor at, so well, the challenge of travel.
My first trip to Europe was a high school coach tour, sponsored by American Institute for Foreign Studies, in '77, which was a week long Alpine adventure.
We were picked up by our tour guide, a British guy, quite cool and young, in Milan Italy and we all started to fall asleep on the bus, with some of us (like me) having flown all the way in from Frisco, 6000 miles away.
His name was Jim Jackson and he got on the mic on the coach, and said 'wake up, you can sleep when you get back to the States a week from now'.
Our first stop was 'The Last Supper', which I got to see before its restoration. Our next stop was Milan's amazing Duomo.
We were so stoked, like our two blessed vloggers are in these videos, that we slept barely a wink after except for right after the Swiss Evening on our second night of the tour, when we were plied with free beer and wine and were quite 'out there' as we returned to our hotel.
Drinking was allowed for fifteen and sixteen year olds in Switzerland and many of us, like me, had our first and last hangovers learning the most important lesson--do not mix beer and wine, and drink forevermore in moderation.
Those were the days when I looked at the world, a dude, like Kendra does, and I still try to even at age 62. I am in a 62 yo body with a young adult's soul, because young adults are so good at coping with new things and filtering out what they don't want to know.

Haillie and Kendra, what a great video/travel log you shot of my home town, you did us proud. Come back for a much longer holiday, it’s said that you can spend two weeks in London and never see it all, certainly never eat all the variety of food available and you have to do a theatrical show. Yes, you will get many comments "correcting" or "educating" you about some of the details of London specifically, UK more widely. What many of us natives often forget is that even though we grew up here, we still took a lifetime to learn these details ourselves! Clearly, you are both already very knowledgeable about these locations while still also keen to explore and enjoy your time here.
All that I would say is that you were very fortunate in choosing this time to visit as we are having some highly unusually good weather at the moment - even in out summer months we often have very rainy days!

So happy you guys loved London, only live 40min drive away in Essex and is so easy to just go and get lost for a day there exploring something different. Is bit further away from a major airport but if ever want to visit this side of the pond again would highly recommend lake district for its unbelievable views and traditional British country walks, and Lincoln, lived there for a little while and still love the place it`s still got steeple walk which is an original i think 18th century cobble walk up hill to the amazing cathedral and fort which is used occasionally as a court house to this day. All are completely free to see and explore if you wish. Also on high street there is a bar that has a night club downstairs and an arcade arena upstairs!!!

I should add--if you ever go to Amsterdam again, stay in Haarlem, about a half hour from Central Station. I stayed at a B&B there in '91 and loved it. The owners' poodle slept faithfully outside my door, lol. It was a great base for Amsterdam since the city is a city for walking, and Haarlem looks like Amsterdam without the crowds, dotted with windmills and canals as well.
When I left Haarlem to head south to Zurich, where I was flying home from, I met some Americans leaving Amsterdam and became their tour guide on their way to Heidelburg and Luzern, where I stayed the night before I flew home from Zurich. They called me 'Professor', lol, since I later became a systems professor in Canada for two years, I appreciated that before I returned home to the states, because my Canadian work Visa listed my occupation as professor because they could not figure out what else to call me, since I also installed computer networks.
I Eurailed a lot in Europe--three trips, when I was around your age, carrying all I needed in a carry on suitcase so I could hop on trains easily.
You and Kendra are to be commended for keeping each other safe, teaching safe traveling, but fun traveling. You share maturity and let your hair down. Both of you are also beautiful young women, but more importantly as a couple, you have 4X the beauty because you compliment each other. I am of the 'Mrs Doubtfire' generation (my daughter says I nail all of Robin Williams voices) because I feel family comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes, living arrangements, and so on.
My fiance and I lived 2000 miles from each other and dated by airplane for months before we married. Praise the Creator of the Universe, she worked for an airline and I had free travel miles too--it never cost me a cent to fly to see her, and more often than not, her airline comped my flight to see her as I flew from Frisco to Mexico and back.
Her brother is gay, and my daughter who saw him last loved his partner, who she also called uncle like Mrs. Doubtfire's brother.
Coolest dude I know, though I cannot speak to him well since my Spanish is just fair. We dig Paul Carrack and Mike and the Mechanics and I made mp3 mixes for him, we both play keyboards, being both former gospel singers and musicians, so we hit it off when I had to ask my fiance's parents for her hand in marriage.

Your vlogs are wonderful for travelers. I enjoy them, like your Amsterdam vlog too, having been to both London and Amsterdam in '84 and '17 while taking group motorcoach tours. In '84 I saw Peter O'Toole, the great British actor, in the London play Pygmalion... I was in the front row of the West End theater, and he almost seemed as if he took the time to acknowledge me for appreciating his work and watching him in such awe. He was the only academy award winning actor I ever saw in person.
I also saw and was up close and personal with Pope John Paul the second at St. Peter's Rome just a week later in '84, at a special Ascension day service. Though I describe myself as a lapsed Atheist (just in case I have to wait in line for the Afterlife), I find spirituality in everyone I have ever met and grace, everyone who shares as the two of you do, is a spirit and soul worth celebrating because thru our inperfections we in human spirit and compassion are perfected as we grow older thru good times and bad.
I loved Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia and Masada, a TV miniseries, though I am dating myself, lol.
I like your vlogs because the two of you travel so well together, find humor wherever you can. Me, lol, a flaming heterosexual, was taken to a gay bar by my boss and his partner, both gay, just because they knew I did not care about the company as long as tears did not flow into our beers. But being kind, and so I'd have someone to dance with, they invited my two hetero female friends along.
I loved that we were accepted and could enjoy the rainbow and let our hair down, since our day job requires us to wear formal clothing, as business systems instructors, for our clients.
I lost contact with one of the bosses I mentioned from that day (we worked in DC at the time where the bar was too), but the other, his partner, I have remained friends with for 30 years now. He was responsible for me meeting my wife in '94, because he promoted me to our international teaching group and I met my wife, who I share a 23yo daughter with, while traveling out of the US working in Latin America.
Please keep sharing your wonderful travel videos. They are spontaneous, unrehearsed, and real world sharing really cool people and really cool places you visit. Though I am 40 years older than youse (from Chicago originally, that is our plural of 'you', lol), you teach folks like me because you can deal with the Jetsons world we dreamed of when we were kids of cell phones and so on far better than we can, something I learned by being a father as well.

4:55 Correct, thats Tower Bridge. I used to live down the road.
A lot of people confuse the bridges.
In 1968 an american tycoon mistook Tower Bridge for London Bridge. He then shipped all 10000 bricks, brick by numbered brick back to Lake Havasu City in Arizona.
So, if you ever go to Arizona, you can cross that bridge as well...

      @heckelphon Год назад

@@grahamsmith9541 Well that must have been a very thoroughly circulated urban myth at the time, because it's what everyone was saying. Of course, if you come to think about it, they would have had to know they were dismantling the old bridge for sale, or they wouldn't have taken so much care of it and had to number each block of stone. That must imply that he saw the bridge in advance because it was still standing when he negotiated the deal. Maybe he made some remark to the press about really wanting the bridge with the towers, and in their usual fashion, they turned it into a story about a big mix-up? I will have to look out the tabloid press form the time, because sure as anything, people back then believed he had bought the wrong bridge in error.

Big Ben Tower was so much more beautiful from up close like you showed in your pictures. Most of the photographs I've seen of it were from quite some distance away, and doesn't do it justice.

I love you came to experience London. As a Brit I might be a bit biased living half an hour from London by train is the best thing ever! There is so much to experience!
You did Amsterdam, Naughty but nice!
Try Berlin, Germany… loads of history.
Try Paris, France… so much class.
Try Budapest, Hungary… the food is amazing.
Try Copenhagen, Denmark…. Everything! Food, history and quirkiness.
OMG I can go on forever ❤

I was wondering about that small cottage in st James Park, when I was in London, in May. Today I finally learned why it is there, thank you for that! (I Was too busy then to be able to take in much of the sights, then- definitely going to go again just to be a tourist though. Also, how come there was no rain there... were you achkthually in London, huh, were you? ;-)
By the way: usually there is train service between Amsterdam and London. Currently not operational, unfortunately, but it should be again in a couple of months. There is a bus service though! (Flixbus. Not the fastest way to travel, but cheap, and sustainable-ish)

0:30: No skybridge? They just dump you out on the tarmac?
4:02: Did you see Benedict? :) Love that show.
4:06: That cop is CUTE! (sorry)
4:52: Did you know that Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell and it's actually called the Great Clock of Westminster? Also, the Clock Tower was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
5:18: But not the original London Bridge. There have been three London Bridges. One that stood from 1209 to 1833. It had literal homes and shops. It's the one that gave us the nursery rhyme "London Bridge is falling down". The second built in 1831 remained over the Thames until 1967 when the owner of McCulloch Motors Corp (which is part of Husqvarna), bought the bridge and removed it piece by piece, shipping it to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Today, the "New" London Bridge carries McCulloch Boulevard and spans the Bridgewater Channel, an artificial, navigable waterway that leads from the Uptown area of Lake Havasu City. The current London Bridge was constructed over the Thames from 1967 to 1972, with it opening in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth.
    9:01: ....and Falafels!
9:25: Reminds me of the popup food places in NYC.
