My humble request to the customs officers and the people of TN. Kindly treat us well in your country. We are Tamil citizen of Malaysia who born and raised up here. We are always very proud to visit our ancestor 'Punya Bhoomi' to touch, feel and breathe the air there.
Most of Malaysian tamilians here has no trace of their ancestors but we are still very excited to visit our native country and to all the great temples. It's a kind of 'Yathirai' for us. We want our next generation to not forget our cultures. Hope these matter solved.
Do think twice before you go there. The experience at the airport is sufficient to deter you from visiting the country again. Though Indian by ethnicity, I felt like an alien there. Nothing can be compared to my only HOMELAND, my lovely Malaysia. They(Indian custom officials) should learn what is courtesy, honesty & diplomacy from our Malaysia customs, who are more humane & friendly compared to those disgusting skunks there.

The same thing happened to me when I travelled with my kids to India in 2018. The customs officers forced me to remove my thali chain and I did so even if I was a Tamil women. When I said that I did not have enough money to pay they told me to sell some of my jewels to a financier and get some money. What was suspicious was when I went out, a financier came up to me correctly asking if I needed money even though I have not met him before. My husband told me to not give my jewels to anyone and arranged for some money through his friend circle. When I have this money to the customs officer, he asked me where I got it from and I lied to him telling I sold my rings and got the money. Immediately after saying this his face lit up and he looked very happy. This whole incident was very suspicious so I tried checking his Id-card but he wore it in such a way so that nobody will see his name. When I asked some other officer for his name, they were not ready to tell. These customs officers especially target women who are traveling alone at night. I have a feeling that these officers have a link with these financiers so that they can cheat and earn money deceitfully.

Being chennai resident, Always the case with these customs officers, I dint have more than 8 gms of gold on me, while traveling back from Dubai. the lady officer pulled me in for checking and touched me inappropriately, and when i went out i found my ring missing. I raised a complaint but no response. Very very bad experience at chennai international airport.
If the news is utter lie, take legal action immediately . If custom officers are wrong, dismiss them immediately and arrest them for cheating.

இந்த அனுபவம் எனக்கும் நடந்துள்ளது. துபாயில் இருந்து சென்னை வரும் போது customs check பண்ணும் போது மோசமான அனுபவம் கிடைத்தது. நான் அணிந்திருந்தது 5 பவுன் தாலி செயின். அதை அணிவித்து 2 வருடம் ஆகிறது. ரசீது போன்ற கேள்விகளை கேட்டுக் குடைந்தனர். சரடுடன் கட்டியிருந்த தாலி கயிறு பழையது எனக் கூறியும் கேட்கவில்லை. நல்லவேளையாக அன்று எங்களுக்கு மிகவும் தெரிந்த ஒரு நபரை பிடித்து எப்படியோ வெளியே வந்தோம். அன்று இவ்வளவு checkingum செய்தது ஒரு ஐயர் பெண்மணி.😢

Same issues I faced while returning from Bahrain...to Chennai..very worst officers.. that time im 7 month .... pregnant.. they told me to stand so long... I want begging to them.... I am living in USA , I went through various airports customs here, they all respect our culture and they never asked me to do these kind of stuff. On the other hand when I supposed to enter Indian airport the officers are treat us like we are entering here for rob their own properties.

I worked in chennai airport with an Indian private airlines ! One of the reason I resigned is this customs / emigration who always does irregularities in a habitual work… not only for passengers even for staffs it was harassment.

It also happened to me at Chennai airport, actually I visited my family in 2000, after knee operations I couldn't stand at checking row, so every 10 minutes I left the row and sit at the side then I went to row, for that the made me wait and checked my luggage 5 times, and after taking 1 bottle of PASSPOT Whisky they let me go.

True, they change rules as per their wish. When I went abroad alone with my 6 and 1 yr kid, the officers gave me enough tension until I boarded. I didn't even carry any jewels. Too much of waiting. They didn't even consider that I was going with 2 kids alone

The same thing happened to me twice in Chennai Meenambakam airport.
You have to keep 5*100$ bills and some.20$ bills.when we go to temple we keep change for beggars. Tourists have to do the same thing when we go to any indian Airport.😀. I think all indian consulates abroad ,when they give Visa they have to print this instructions and give it to tourists and make sure tourists keep some change for this purpose😀

This happened to me last Friday 22/07/2023 exactly what this lady went through. They asked me to remove my thali and put it in a plastic bag with my passport in their drawer.
I cried and begged the customs officers to give me back my thali they asked me to pay 1 lakh 50000 rupees or 1000 American dollars. I told them I didn’t have that much money in the end they asked me to pay Rs 25,000 and I paid it to customs in Chennai. My thali was returned. What this lady is telling in the video is 100% true. Chennai custom officers are thiefs
How many grams of gold you totally carried? They won't charge a fine if you carry gold within permitted limits.
