  • In Part 2 of 2, we tackle the damage to the nose of the center section panel, and then try to smooth some past repairs that were not quite up to our standards (to say the least...)
This video goes through the process we used to repair a customer's original Series 3 V12 bonnet that was damaged in shipping. The car's bonnet and bodyshell was completely restored and painted at another shop years ago, but was damaged last year when the car was transported in an enclosed trailer without being properly tied down.
The customer removed the bonnet, stripped off all the paint and filler, then had the bonnet dipped to bare metal and "e-coated" in black before bring it here for us to make the needed repairs.
NOTE - I did this work while in the shop by myself, so there was no-one around to do the filming except me. So I apologize that there are no "action": shots in this series, and you don't get to see my smiling face either... What you WILL get to see is a damaged bonnet (that many other shops would discard...) being brought back to life with careful hammer and dolly work - and LOTS of tips and explanations on how the work is done. Enjoy!

I am sure you have heard this a million times, you are a MASTER at metal work, I have done some basic beating, but your skills are beyond belief. You must teach someone to follow in your footsteps so the skill is not lost.
This has to be a master class for any body guy/girl.

Thank You - very flattering! :-) It's all experience - and I work on the same thing all the time - E-Type bonnets - so you just can't help but get better over time. I'm ok - alot better than I used to be - but you should see some of these guys on the metalworking groups and forums - they are the real masters! But Thank you very much - I've come a long way with this skill and I'm proud of being able to bring these panels back! :-)

Very nice work Chuck . I did similar on a series 2 bonnet but fortunately the COWBOYS hadn't got there first !!! And it's a devil of a job to reach with one arm holding the dollie and the other the hammer !! That's something you can't understand if you've not been down that road !! Top drawer Chuck !

Wow a fluster cluck! I’m surprised they didn’t use a 16 penny nail to make holes for the filler.
    Nice work
