This might be the sharpest video lens from Fujifilm.

    Dear Ghosts,
    In summary, this 23mm f1.4 LM lens is very sharp and future proof. High resolution, sharpness, lower contrast, colder color shift, decent AF, this might be my future travel lens. I originally tried to return this lens because I thought it would be too sharp for video and the contrast was weak for photos but I ended up keeping it when actually comparing the lenses. Maybe I'm talking out my ass but for photos the image quality is on par with GFX lenses, that's how sharp this one is. However it isn't the best lens for video despite that I think this focal length is invaluable. Honestly the newest LM lenses are near perfect, which may be good for me because I like a clean look but maybe not for you. Spend wisely.
    I uploaded around 7 videos testing settings prior to this one and I tried my best to solve banding. Every video esp. lowlight I've seen on this platform has this problem, but mine is particularly pixelly since i add grain. I've uploaded the file to vimeo so you can better see what it looks like without the banding issues: vimeo.com/8352...
    Audio is also a bit scuffed, i'll be stronger for the next video. Hopefully you enjoyed this review, if you don't like it you can blame my audience for suggesting i put more production quality into my reviews :)
    For some talking head shots I used the Otus to film so you can compare what the Fuji lens has to offer. At the end of this review you can see a preview of a short story I made with the 23mm LM lens, please be patient as I'm still working on it. Special thanks to Johnny for his input for this video!
    Love,

    I'm considering going back to 23mm f2 it's also great lens has a cinematic vibe and very good LM AF

      The contrast is very strong, I’d recommend this over any other lens if you want an indie look like the safdie brothers

    I like the message of this video. I'm guilty of over-using grain and film simulations, but you're right, that is not art, art is about pushing the limits and creating something new.

      This is a big hurdle for many people and you see it in music fashion and other fields as well. Coming from music i can say that when overdone it becomes boring and distasteful

    Great video man.. i own xt4 with 23f2 for every job.. wanted the 23f.14lm wr, do you think the upgrade will be that substantial?

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  Год назад

      Yes it will be, i can only assume you are doing it for paid client work, in which case it has better AF and more accurate color, not to mention f1.4 which is a dream and sharpness. If you're only using it for video, well, wait for my next upload before you decide...I've also posted a comparison of those two lenses. Spend wisely.

    I don’t think it’s a big deal, most Netflix films are super sharp anyways

      You’re not wrong though I wouldn’t say that’s a particularly high bar. Netflix only approves certain cameras and clearly prioritizes resolution and full frame

    Even though I am a big fan of Fujifilm cameras and prefer them overall from other cameras, their color science (including color softness, color shift, etc.) has always been a slight con for me. The way Hasselblad nails it's color science in it's cameras, Fujifilm lacks by just a little bit. And did Fuji actually stop production of X100V's due to high demand?
    P.S: The outro really gave Prometheus vibes. Idk why.

      I think fujifilm is less of an offender of crimping their products. I don't think there are as many of those problems you mentioned for the GFX, but i still don't think that they will give the affordable APSC line their best R&D and technology. That being said the new LM lenses are getting pretty close to at least the zoom lenses on the GFX. I spend a considerable amount of effort and pride myself on my titles actually thanks for noticing.
