Well done. I shortened a set of 175 Shimano to 155. (Drill press) Why, some ask? I am 5'6 with 29" legs. 172.5 has me hopping off my seat. NOW I feels smoother. My Zwift power for 1 hour was actually improved by about 5 watts with same heart rate. Provided arms do NOT come this short. That's why you (and I) did this. Props.
You’ve done a better job in a bathroom than I’ve seen some do in a workshop. Well thought out 👍👍
Thanks, mate

Congrats, good for you
Thank you. I was thinking how to reduce crank arm length from 175mm to 160 mm.
Did yoy do that? peddle strucks are killing me.
How did the alignment turn out?
I am 5'10" , ride a recumbent and need 155mm. 175 feels to jerky and unable to attain high cadence. I too will be shortening my 175 to 155
What pedal taps did you use? I just bought a pair of 9/16 taps but it said in the manual they are for restoring threads, not to cut new threads...
It says the same but aluminium is a soft metal and the bits cut through the crank quite easily, just add bit of any oil, cooking oil is fine as well.
@@borzhommm many thanks, it worked for me as well now. Scary and heavy, but then it turned out great.
i was thinking about how he tapped the right peddle because its opposite threaded. i didnt know they sold peddle taps
genial. who needs a micrometer if You have a credit card
What's ur wife height & inseam length?
I'm 5'4 with 26.5" of inseam
Thinking to decrease 170mm crank to 140mm
I can not remember now, but I do remember I used a formula which I had found on the internet for calculating the crank length
The problem now is finding a crank that is not hollow these days, not like the older cranks that use to be fuller in thickness.
Did u use left hand tap?
as far as I remember I used right and left tap
they last or broke
Going strong
Can I do 175 to 162.5? I don't wanna go shorter.
I don't think it will work, unfortunately.
@@borzhommm how about 160mm? Is that possible? Thanks for the video! very little information on this topic. Short cranks are crazy expensive!
@@miguelgonzalezvaz5552 potentially it is possible, the only thing is there would be very little material left. It's cheap to give it a go anyway
@@borzhommm thank you!
just lost power. give it a few years and the flavor of the month fad will turn back around to longer arms that you can still do 90rpm with are better
No, you dont lose power, and there are many other advantages
@@wx2999 Helps with knee discomfort, as well as facilitating an overall better fit on the bike
I made them shorter for my wife, the stock ones were way too long for her
@@wx2999 if you spin 90 rpm with 175s and then run a shorter arm at 90rpm you will absolutely lose power.
@@BladeBarn he shortened the cranks for a better fit for his wife, power output is most certainly not his biggest concern.
Looks bad? Why not just buy shorter cranks
The size I needed didn't exist
