emm, Shanghai is not China. It is the best place in China. Most Chinese people nowadays still live in poverty (about 140 USD a month). The housing is also very high. In Giant metropolis like Shanghai, a small house can easily cost you about 144k USD. In smaller "New Tier 1 cities", the housing price is about 20k USD.

Shanghai definitely have more opportunities for foreigners though, whether it's English teaching or otherwise. Hours should be fine if you are working in an international institute / company

But when shit hits the fan, you want to be somewhere else.
