You mentioned that the Aria Snow has a better driver than the original. If you were to add it to this ranking, would that be enough to put the Snow up in B tier or would it stay in C with the regular Aria?
I've always found the Arias overrated as well. People shill Moondrop way too much, and especially the Arias... There's many more better or equal options out there for the same price or less.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Possibly yes. But I feel like most people are just jumping on the bandwagon without much of an idea what is truly good or not. Might have to do with Crin as well, as he often praises the Arias. In the end it's still a subjective hobby, but I feel like we can atleast look at things with some objectivity and agree certain things are way overhyped for what they actually are.
@@Mark_dj86 Man, I kinda like the Arias, at least in terms of being wide and spatial. But I do not love them as others in my collection. They are good for some genres, not everything. I totally agree they might be overrated. They are definitely not all rounders.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews It's 100% library. My music is 90% Japanese anime/video game soundtracks so it's mostly female vocals with some males that are higher pitched, good amount of sub bass over mid and very busy and intense tracks with makes the moondrop target curve really ideal actually. Moondrop come off an lean with normal music but that lean factor actually suits more eastern music which is very intense.
I want a good IEM for stage monitoring and studio monitoring, so I'd like something that is fairly flat and I also would want good imaging... What set would you recommend for that? maybe a couple sets at different price points if you don't mind helping me pick...
Stage, imaging? Something like Naga Audio SIRIUS. Studio mix no..(vocal for sure are no) would be tough but if you ever get a chance try that set out for stage monitoring. i know a few folks who use for that. U12t is a great monitor once you get used to it's subtle warm tint. I doubt that bothers production as it is not dramatic. subtle. A boring set really built for that.
What about the etymotics ex2se ex4xr that is my budget picks for iem monitors .if you don't mind throwing some money around the u12t is awesome but like hbb said it's slightly warm. My bass player has been using the hbb tri kai because he likes it smooth so he can crank them if you want to go even cheaper the mele is similar to the kai but the etymotics are super flat if that's what you are looking for
I think Chu is a solid B. It sounds better than the 7hz Zero. I know their response curve are almost the same, but the Chu sounds better in a real ear. Maybe it is the metal shell of the Chu.
I really started my audiophile experience with the SSP about a year ago. Now I own the KXXS, OH1, TE Zero and some other more i had sold because it didnt stick with me.
Illuminations not on your full list yet? I’m still on the search for my next IEM haha (probably oracle… but I’m scared it might be too bright for me coming from Timeless)
Hello there, i am looking to get myself a pair of illuminations and wanted to ask if (since i have no opportunity to listen to them before buying) they are are a more musical and engaging or analytical set ? Would be greatful to get an answer to that 😊
One of my first chi-fi iems was the Spaceship... and did not like it at all. I kinda agree with you it is a "D", but the cable is so, so bad, that Beavis' voice inside my head (alongside Butt-Head) cry out loud: "This sucks, it sucks!" doing that affirming movement with the arms to emphasize how bad it sucks. Thank God they improved the cables later.
I am between kato, ikko oh10 and thieaudio elixir to listen to blues, hard rock, jazz, anime/game soundtracks, rap and electronic music. which one do you take? I currently have a t3 plus and I want to make a jump in quality, but only dynamic drivers. Later I will get into the world of planars with timeless or s12
I use a kato and listen to similar genres and i like it alot the only thing is its heavy and the oh10 is even heavier so its a little uncomfortable in my ear but no so much that i wont listen to it i think the katos are good for the price
I know technicalities and detail, but what do you mean my musicality? The only conclusion I can come to is a well balanced iem so that nothing overshadows/outshines any otherparts in the frequency response.
subjective interpretation of how enjoyable the playback is in a certain range i think, for me a set might be detailed and revealing but it may not sound natural, or smooth, or it might be overwhelming or a bit harsh at times. I prefer details tuned naturally versus overwhelming details that feel embellished, some sets feel like they want to prove to you how technical they are versus just playing music with just the right amount of everything. balance i guess, idk detail is great but it needs to be separated and positioned properly, and not overwhelming or fatiguing. Fatigue for me is just overemphasis or too much of a good thing. or technical ability is the raw retrieval and reproduction of sound information, and musicality is the refinement and balancing of it, what you do with it afterwords. the subtle things in tuning that match a music type or bring it to life in a subjective way, idk i actually have no clue what i'm talking about btw so keep that in mind just some thoughts
Iv been seriously thinking of getting the blue kato since it's on sale. Good thing i stumbled on this vid. Thing is i already have the timeless, not sure if kato's worth the sidegrade.
Measure avg via pink noise or a tone in mids 350-500Hz for a relative sense of volume off of your device. Lower is better for ear health. Since the dynamic range is +/- 10dB even 77 can be 87 for moments if not louder
No, disagree. DUSK is more balanced ...out by the subtle bass lift. The original is anemic and un natural for drums and guitars and vocals (male) nasally. I don't think that is balanced
It would be an "A" i think people are grossly underselling it as a set due to it's price. Everybody is seemingly hyping it and folks doubt that as they should i guess. I love that set. First time Crin impressed me. Brilliant move of tuning, price put together
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Yeah those zeros are nutty. That said I'm still trying to figure out a set of eartips that dont feel like they're inflating my ears -.-' lol
Heard most of the Moondrops here. My fav is the KXXS, not the best in technicalities, but the coherency, stage and naturalism are great.
It is a very good set. Loved all the versions born outta Kanas (Pro, KXXS, Starfield)
Thanks for this.
I hope you can do a similar ranking of planar IEMs, but perhaps a year from now when other ones come on the market.
Yeah we should wait a bit
You mentioned that the Aria Snow has a better driver than the original. If you were to add it to this ranking, would that be enough to put the Snow up in B tier or would it stay in C with the regular Aria?
I think it would be "B". I messed up not adding it. 🤦♂

What you exactly mean when you said you like musicality of s8 over the technicality of the variations
mid bass and overall tonality of S8 is better for my library than variations.

KATO
