    6:36 I meant to say springs*, not screws. Also, I just realized I repeated the parts about the aluminum and underwater use. I forgot I mentioned that when filming the breakdown. Thanks for watching!
    Also - weight is 159.1 grams

      The microtechs have hollow glass breakers so it helps clear water and allows proper action under water. That's what kept yours from firing

    Like always bro. The most informative video about microtech knives out there. Don’t understand why don’t have thousands of views yet. People should see these videos. Btw i have two scarabs. Either of them does not fire under the water 100% times but both have only single spring

    Just ordered their M390 Halo clone of AliExpress the other day. $270 shipped is a bit pricey but is a $700 genuine halo even $430 "better"? Let alone its almost impossible to find a real one for sale. Every review I have seen says their quality is on point. The main thing for me is that most higher price microtechs people probably dont even carry, they're safe/drawer queens. Sure its a knock off but if the quality is there and you wont be afraid to actually use it then i say go for it.
    Been eyeing their DLC mirror polish halo clones - $700. But again a marfione custom would be what $2000???

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC  5 месяцев назад +1

      That’s exactly my philosophy. I don’t want to spend $500+ on a real Microtech just to keep it in a safe or drawer. What fun is that? I want something I can use daily and not be worried about it. That’s why I got into Vespas and they’re perfect for this. They’re not cheap but not so expensive that you can’t use them. Vespa also uses 7075 aluminum and Microtech still uses 6061. They tell you it’s not a big deal but trust me, that 7075 is much tougher. I think you’ll be happy with a Vespa Halo. You can always message the seller and offer a lower price - they’re easy to work with. Let me know if I can help. Thanks for your comment and take care!

    what really pisses me off on these knives is the moronic longitudinal grooves the top and bottom sides of the knife. if there was a flat surface, then you could use an anti-slip self adhesive tape, but no chance with these grooves (at least if you don't remove them manually). and about using underwater, well, again, this is marketing, partly for the above reason. the knife absolutely does not give a chance for reliable retention!

  • @LIE4ME
    @LIE4ME 2 месяца назад +1

    Its an homage. Clone and counterfeits brannd themselves like the knife they imitate. I dont know if Vespa has the permission to use the likeness of Microtech but its not branded Microtech.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC  2 месяца назад

      Oh it’s a counterfeit, don’t let it fool you! It has all the markings of a real Scarab including the Scarab logo. Without this, you’d be right :) sometimes I use these terms interchangeably but your definition is spot on.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment! Are you referring to the real Microtech or the Vespa? Personally I wish they’d use other steels - Magnacut, S110V, Maxamet, etc. It would be nice to have variety.

    • @JohnDavis-tj1bl

      @@GigiEDC m390 is m390 and it is outdated tech here in 2024…it works yes but 1095 will outperform it across the board. Your paying a premium for something that was premium 30 years ago is my point. And I would bet when microtech doesn’t list the steel in their knives that they are m390, like they’re ashamed of it, otherwise they would list blade material.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC  2 месяца назад

      @@JohnDavis-tj1blI hear you. 1095 is a great steel from the little experience I have with it, now I’m interested in trying it out more. Hopefully they and other OTFs makers will start using more premium steels because for whatever reason, all the big makers rarely update their materials. Microtech only began using 7075 aluminum this year. Take care!

      @JohnDavis-tj1bl 1095 is way older than m390 and not stainless. I don't think I've ever seen a folding or otf pocket knife using 1095.

    It's not full tang. This is like one of those hollow handle Rambo knives made by Jimmy lile or jack Crain. Your knife is zero tang. It's going to snap off at the moment of truth.

      @GigiEDC  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you for your comment! Wouldn’t that be every OTF? You’re right, it’s zero tang although they can take a beating. Nothing will ever out perform a full tang fixed blade though.

      @@GigiEDCAnd, that is exactly why I carry a Civivi fixed blade with a pocket scabbard. There's not a folder made that can stand up to 8 inches of solid steel. I've been carrying this knife for 2 years. I slice, chop,scrape, pry, hammer and everything in between. Oh yeah, zero blade play.
