    FINALLY! This is the exact mandoline that I purchased from Amazon. And the so-called instruction manual was useless. Your measured step by step video was perfect. I love your approach that stressed both what it is and how to use it.

      Thank you! It's one of my favorite tools. But I know too many people who don't use it correctly and end up getting cut. Thanks for watching!

    I know you are a professional because of the way you said "to about there" without specifying where. lol I love your whole video, super helpful. I've only ever used these East German ones from 40 years ago, but now I lost mine while moving... So now realizing how expensive these things are, and how many different ones exist.

      I appreciate that! I use mine all the time, but even I have had it happen when I got lazy 🍸🍸

    Great video, ty. I’m 74, and always feared using a mandolin so resisted buying one. With developing hand arthritis, I recently decided it was time to get over my caution. Bought a sturdy adjustable model similar to the one you demonstrated. Second time I used it I nicked my thumb trying to carefully remove a stuck chip from the blade. Ive learned never to go near the blade with my shaky digits. Now I use a plastic fork where needed!

    I'm watching still but cleaning one would be a great video. I used my new one for making pickled onions but I'm afraid to clean it 😱

    • @LetsCelebrateTV
      @LetsCelebrateTV  2 года назад +3

      Oh no - don't be scared. Each model is different, but for most the blade is a cartridge that slides out the side. Even if it doesn't when you rotate the thickness knob to 0, the bed is flat and blade is below the bed so cleaning is safe and easy. When all else fails, check the manual, they usually have good tips. 🍸🍸

    The problem with V shaped blades, is that they get the veggies stuck, if the blade isn't 100% level.
    And they therefore also cut un even thick slices, if you use left and right sides.
    I have an OXO V slicer, and it's not cutting the same thickness if I switch side, and it comes with pre installed settings, so you can't adjust the thickness as you chose.
    Only get a single blade slicer, with variable thickness selection.
    And be carefull, some mandolins, come with a to small guide, that barely fitt the width of the slicer.

    The question that no one has an answer to - How to use the mandolin for a potato without losing 1/5 of the thing once you reach the level where the gripper won't hold it anymore.

    • @LetsCelebrateTV

      Some brands are better than others with the depth of the guard. The Oxo series is good in that you don't get much leftover. If I want to use that little bit for something, I will just use my chef's knife. 🍸

      Use the small leftover bits and throw them in a dedicated scrap bag in the freezer for making veggy soup stock.

    I have the Oxo mandoline and unfortunately I can never use the guard. The mechanism springs back and shoots the vegetable out like a canon ball. Very dangerous. And everytime I use the mandolin unprotected I slice off a bit of my finger. I love your video but I wish this would work for me.

      I know, the guard on the older version was much better. This new guard is challenging, but it does work. It just takes some practice. I feel you pain, as I've also had a couple of cuts from mine. Thanks for watching!

    Guard or no guard - I won't ever use one of these. These scare the bejesus out of me!

    • @LetsCelebrateTV
      @LetsCelebrateTV  2 года назад +3

      They should not scare you when using a quality mandoline. Most of the accidents we see are novice cooks using low end plastic mandolines. The plastic ones slide and the blades are not very sharp so it takes extra effort to slice so the entire unit moves on each stroke.

    Can it slice citrus fruit as well? Lime, lemon, orange you name it. Oxo sharp enough to handle?

    • @LetsCelebrateTV
      @LetsCelebrateTV  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it can, but with the guard there will be a lot of waste, so I would opt to do this with a knive 🍸

  • @Hedgehogsinthemist123

    I'm still not sure if it's worth investing in one of these things. What happens when you're slicing a potato and it gets down to the top of the guard. Do you have to take the leftover potato and reposition it? It seems like a lot of fuss just to slice a few potatoes and vegetables now and again.

    • @LetsCelebrateTV
      @LetsCelebrateTV  3 месяца назад

      When you get down to the small end, there are two choices. Cut the small piece by hand, or if you are trying to get perfect consistent slices, then just toss the ends. 🥂🍸

      @LetsCelebrateTV  2 года назад +4

      I would agree with that, but remember the target audience for the basic skills - novices. If they don't get into the habit early of using the guard, way too many accidents will happen. For the Novice, I will say use knife on the pickle. The professionals usually have enough skill to do it. 🍸🍸

    this product , besides being useless, should be recalled for safety - i know 3 people that were sent to ER to have their cuts stitched because of this junk..

    • @LetsCelebrateTV
      @LetsCelebrateTV  Год назад +3

      I'm sorry to hear that. But, that's why it's so important to follow the instructions, use the safety guard, and be mindful of what you're doing in the kitchen. Unfortunately, accidents happen even when someone is being super careful. Thanks for watching!

      This is a Profesional chefs tool, those 3 people had no business using one if they didn't know how. Saying it's useless is just an ignorant t statement for something you don't know how to use

  • @bobburgers4302

    That's NOT how you use a mandolin.
    When using the guard, keep the guard level with the surface of the mandolin.
    In this video, we see him "pulling" the guard, you must "push" the guard.
    When pulling the guard, you will tend to lift the back of the veggie, getting an uneven cut.
    When pushing the guard, you can get a better connection with the surface of the mandolin, keeping it level and getting evenly thick slices. "Feel" the veggie, make sure it isn't wobbeling while cutting.

    • @LetsCelebrateTV

      I mostly agree with you, but it depends on the density of the item being sliced 🍸🍸
