No BS, no annoying music in backround, no flat jokes, just straight to the point! Thanks, you gave me the strength to do this myself, i'm changing mine this weekend!
If you live in a region that gets rust. DON’T try to remove your ABS/wheel speed sensor. It will break inside the unit bearing. Sometimes you can drill it out but you might have to get an entire new hub and bearing assembly depending on how stuck it is. Instead, just simply disconnect the wire from behind the strut tower and you can remove the axle with the sensor still inside as one price.
If you do break a wheel speed sensor my suggestion is drill a small hole in the remaining part of the wheel speed sensor and then take a self tapping screw what I found works best is a license plate bolt. Screw that both a little bit inside the remaining part of the wheel speed sensor and just pry the old part out both of mine broke off and this is how I got both of them out in less than five minutes
@@RacingRacing-lf3fw this is great advice. When I did this job, both of mine broke off flush with the unit bearing. I was able to do that for the drivers side but the passenger side was completely seized. 3 days of endless PB plaster and yanking on the screw with Vice grips over and over again did nothing
Bro. I legit blew out my ball joint yesterday and got crazy death wobble because of it. Talk about perfect timing to drop this video man. Btw that Jeeps passenger side axle seal is gone. You can see all the diff fluid on the knuckle. Def’n needs to be changed but it’s a huge pita to do.
Absolutely perfect - great info & details, direct and to the point. I was able to follow along and replaced my ball joints on my Jeep myself & saved about $1k!
I replaced both sides, upper and lower ball joints on my JK, by watching your video....it went well, ran into a snag getting my drive shaft out of the axle...it was frozen at the face by the knuckle, used some heat and persuasion...finally got it free...replaced the universal joints on the drive shafts while I had them out...cheap and easy fix...my hardest part was the press I used and the fender flares...made it challenging getting the top ball joints in... If I had a lift I could use my impact wrench...would have made light work of this. This video was spot on and extremely accurate and informative.... Great video Thnx
Really awesome video. Most of the required detail without a bunch extra yacking. I had it on my iPad as I did the install. I went with the Rare Parts ball joints. They’re pricy but recommended by one of the guys from Metal Cloak. I did have a slight interference between the lower ball joint and the axle knuckle. The first side just required filing down the grease fitting (cup in this case). The second side (driver side), I had to do a little grinding on the knuckle to keep it from rubbing. One issue that I had that I had not seen mentioned elsewhere, when I removed the first side axle, gear oil came pouring out of the tube. For the second side I drained out some of the diff fluid. It wasn’t an issue for the second side. Install went well and test drive felt good.
Hello there adventure Dec I just wanted to say Your ideo I’d got my to help me a lot I’m going to change the ball joints on Friday an I’m going to watch your videos as I do it you show how to tell done an explain in a easy way no that’d to understand at all, Thank You Adventure Dec your awesome an also your knew friend an subscriber 👍👍👍
my 2007 had different but sizing. only the 12 pt 13mm were as in video but - 45 mins later viola - thanks... also heads up if yours has never been performed - and you are indeed FYI -ing it - order the at least 3 12 pt hub bolts - they will snap and then you can spend 15-30 mins extracting... what fun that is..
Hey Dex… just wanted to say thanks for this video and your video on the tie rod and drag link! Also, thanks for the heads up on the Jeep ball joint adapters, it made light work!
At the 12:12 mark you mentioned a tapered adapter to fit the shape of the C. Any tips on where to find? Also, difference between smooth and knurled? I have a stock ‘07 JKU. Great video all around.
Just had these installed. The steering felt strange at first. Feels better now - i guess the new ball joints take a day or so to break in (loosen up vs the old ball joints).
I'm doing this job today with synergy ball joints too. Great information in this video bro! Thank you for sharing it... one thing is for sure, nobody can look cool while setting up a ball joint press. Awkward A.F....
that was a great installation hey you can use my Jeep as a model it's always something with my Jeep I have the sensor but I haven't replaced it it's a P0128 code but its not leaking or running hot i'm gonna have to take the wheel off to get to it. when ever you have one come up do a sensor video I already changed both camshaft sensors and a crankshaft sensor it's always one after the other
Very helpful video, thanks! Two things to mention though, the ABS sensor almost always breaks off when attempting remove it, instead of removing it I unplug the wire and leave it in. Also the axle bearing seals are known for going bad on Wranglers and it looked like you had some differential oil in yours when you pulled the axle out. If they show signs of leaking, replacing them wouldn't take much more work while changing the ball joints. Again, great vid and thanks!
@@Willthethrill478 Yes, it's difficult to get to but it's not all that hard. Either way, if you break off the sensor in the hub, you will be unplugging it anyways. If you decide to try to remove it and it breaks off (I've done it) just use a flat faced punch and hammer it in a bit to break it loose, then drill a hole in it and extract it out using a sheet metal screw. Good luck!
If you replaced the ball joints at home would you have to get the steering realigned, I know that doing almost any front end work you do but what about if you’re just replacing ball joints
Great video. Out of curiosity, how do you like the Synergy ball joints after all this time? I'm looking at getting some and would like some feedback. Thanks in advance.
I just finished mine and now have the right and left speed sensor code on my code reader and also several dash lights. Brake, abs, stability control. Any ideas would help as I try to reassemble it. And thanks for the vid
Hey AdventureDex, next time that you do this, make sure that you CLEAN your work area!! Please!!! And that axle seal is definitely BAD!!! Don't ever do a job just half way. I used to be a mechanic, and I would NEVER leave a job half done!!! I now have to watch these videos from my bed. I have ALS!! I am unable to do anything for myself. I watch your videos all the time!! Thanks for sharing these vids!! I enjoy them, very much. Thanks again!! Keep it up.
Hey AdventureDex, thanks for the reply!! I'm glad it was taken care of!! I watch your videos all the time!! And I even get ideas from them!! Keep up the good work!! Thanks again!!
I snapped off the speed sensor connection going into the hub assembly , can I dig that out and only buy the wire connection or do I have to buy the hole wheel hub assembly w/ the speed sensor wire included? Working on a 2013 JK Wrangler Sahara here in the rust bolt. Also is that a six sided or star socket you used to take the three bolts off for the wheel hub assembly? TU
Hey dude first of all love your videos very informative 👍 but got to ask where are you from I've never heard that accent from anywhere 🤔just trying to place it 😉
Hey dude, really appreciate the install video as it helped me do mine. After I buttoned everything up, my steering felt VERY stiff and almost hard to control on the road. I contacted Synergy, and came to find out that because I was replacing the factory ball joints, that I should have not used the knurled ones, but the smooth instead. Synergy basically said my steering will be stiff for awhile until they break-in. Did you have any similar issues going from the factory ball joints to knurled ones?
Hey! Glad you Enjoyed the video! No I didn’t have that issue. Perhaps synergy is right and you need some more miles on the new ball joints. Sorry I couldn’t be more help
my lower ball joints are shot but my upper won't even budge, is this normal. On my synergy the new uppers won't budge at all, either! The lowers move around with some force though
wich grease fittings did you use on the bottom grease fittings. I just bought these joints and the bottom joints come with flat needle tip fitting amd the regular grease fitting?
I picked up a little "extention" for my grease gun, its narrow at the tip and about 4 inches long to get into the tighter spots. I too was wondering how to grease them but its a simple attachment for the grease gun www.google.com/search?q=grease+gun+narrow+nozzle&client=firefox-b-1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjGu4SHhtPfAhWwGDQIHSp_ADYQ_AUIDygC&biw=1320&bih=664#imgdii=6DNPHXv6tLppbM:&imgrc=6WoShbE7srz5aM:

Hope you enjoy this installation video! Dont forget to SUBSCRIBE!! #jeepwave
AdventureDex how important is the retainer when screwing the upper joint ball joint?

One of the best How to's I've encountered on any subject !!
Excellent video. Great pace, lots of detail, no wasted time. WELL DONE!
I like how you used simple hand tools instead of expensive power tools. Great video.

Was a little intimidated doing ball joints and u joints on my jk but after watching this I feel a little better about it. Nice work dude!
I've watched numerous videos on this by the "pros" and yours is by far the best!

Great video AD! Followed it step by step! Could not have done it without you! Beware of those speed sensors! They’re sensitive!
Best install video I have ever seen. ....and I have watched thousands! Very clear and no skipped steps!! Fantastic work!
Great how to video. Saves much time, that means less time in Haynes and Chilton books. Thanks keep them coming.
An excellent straight to the point video on how to change ball joints....... cheers to you mate.....
Outstanding video. Thanks. I am doing mine tomorrow just like shown in your lecture.
my favorite job to do on a jeep!
great video
Just ordered some teraflex ball joints. Will be changing in a week. Great video
Awesome dude! Thanks for watching!
What Ball joint press kit did you use? There's a lot of kits online and its difficult to figured out which is suitable for the JK
Thanks for the demo! My 2015 is in need of new ball joints, and this is goign to save me a lot of time and money! thanks!
Great video Bud! Thanks for the complete walk through for us newbs!
Just picked up a used JK. My first Jeep! Your videos are great and help me tackle DIY upgrades and mods. Keep it up!
Nice video, I need to know what BALL JOIINT TOLL KIT used. I need to do replaces my ball joints on my JK.

Hey Dex… just wanted to say thanks for this video and your video on the tie rod and drag link! Also, thanks for the heads up on the Jeep ball joint adapters, it made light work!
Damn bro u have helped a lot. I changed mine just by watching ur vids. They're really detail and very informative. Thanks bro.
Thanks for the video,. Your video saved me a lot of time on my 07 jk....

Did you rent a kit or did you purchase one? If so, which one did you buy as I need to also replaced my JK ball joints due to death wobble. Thank you
Thanks for another great video. I've never used a ball joint press and this really helped
Man getting that knuckle off was a job in itself on mine lol. Very good informative video man!
Fantastic video. I'm confident I can change mine out myself now.
Well done video, very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you very much for this video.
Amazing.
Regards from Costa Rica.
15:49 "Get rid of all this shit" as he cleans the shaft. Lmao 🤣 I think that's the first time I've heard Dex curse on his videos.
Just had these installed. The steering felt strange at first. Feels better now - i guess the new ball joints take a day or so to break in (loosen up vs the old ball joints).
Yes exactly! Thanks for watching!
Having the right tools it rally makes a difference , cool videos bro.
Awesome video man!! Great energy.. I now have the confidence to do my own ball joints
What was the ball joint press you used and what was the added unit that you used on the upper ball joint
hi! Are you interested in testing new LED tail lights for JK ?
Looks like that Jeep also has a leaking axel seal. Should have replaced it while you had the steering knuckle off.
Yah, it will be changed. Didn’t want to side track the video on ball joints. Thanks for watching

Not necessarily. If your steering is straight as long as you don’t change anything it should be straight when your reassemble. Thanks for watching

Thanks man! I appreciate it
great video, hey when can we expectd an air compressor intall, summer time is almost here, and the trails are ready? OlllO
Yes, I want to install one but I am behind on videos so I can’t give an exact date but I definitely 100% will be doing one. Thanks for the support

Are all these steps the same for a 2008 jk 2WD?
O.k., got the same ball joints you have on this video, are or is the stem suppose to move up and down?
Excellent vid man. Thanks for help.
I love the teraflex ball joints nice little penny for them but well worth it
Yah but I don’t believe they fit any jeeps over 2012 which sucks! I could be wrong though but I am pretty sure I read that online. Thanks for watching
AdventureDex they fit in Jeep's up to 18 jk just put some in a couple newer Jeep's that are doing some hard off-road trips

Great instructional video! Thanks!
Can you provide the link to replace the steering parts?
ive seen on other videos they took the big axle nut off , why didnt you have to take it off?
I found it super helpful. Thanks
Does it have to be flat or can you park on a slight incline?
What are the torque specs for the 3 bolts on the steering knuckle
How is it possible to do this without removing the tie rod and drag link if you have to take both steering knuckles off

does it really or you just kidding?
Yes there are 2 rubber stops my original spare tire was against them now I have about an inch gap
