My uncle had a blue six cylinder Pontiac LeMans. I was supposed to inherit it. But someone married into the family got it who had no connection to my uncle. He tore it up trying to V8 swap it and it ended up in a scrap yard. I would have just replaced the seals, fluids, filters and kept the six cylinder and it would still be on the road. I had a lot of good memories in that car. I thought it was a hot rod muscle car.
My Father had one of these. Add A/C and beach heat and the engine would vapor-lock. Nothing was a quick stop as we had to wait for the engine to cool down. He traded it for a 70 Newport with a 440.
My friend said I know where an abandoned junk yard is. So we went. This was 1975. One of these engines was in a wrecked car. I took the whole thing apart. We stood on each fender and used a rope and lifted the short block out. My dad eventually took the parts and junked them.
It depends what you want from your car. If you just want a classic, great looking old car and you’re not really into rapid acceleration or burning rubber the 6 cylinder is probably fine. If you’d like to do a burnout here and there or love the bottom end torque and sound of a V8 that would be the way to go. My overhead cam 6 is smooth and quiet and runs like a Swiss watch. It doesn’t have a ton of bottom end torque but once you get off the line it moves along fine. A V8 has tremendous bottom end power and can rip the tires loose most anytime you want. Having had a V-8 in my car before I put the OHC 6 in it I can tell you the OHC 6 always causes people to stop and look at it at a car show. With the V8, they’d look at it for a minute or two and walk away. If that’s important to you that might help you make your decision too. Thanks for watching my video!

@@rjmzz430 I have a couple of fast cars to scratch that itch when I need to. The OHC 6 was a pretty cool attempt by Pontiac to give 6 cylinder economy and ease of service with some small V-8 like performance. Especially the Sprint version like I have. I’ve got 3.23’s and an automatic and it’s rquick but if I had 4.11’s and a manual trans this thing would be a blast! Nothing like a 400 RA III of course but equitable to a 327 Camaro maybe. It’s fun to drive at any rate. Not like a typical, boring 6 banger. People go bananas over it at car shows too since you rarely see them anymore!
@@olzkng definitely a nice cruiser! Thanks for giving us a little more info about the powertrain combo....how much does it weigh? Does it pull hard in the low end range?
@@rjmzz430 I want to say the OHC 6 weighs around 450-500 pounds. It’s no lightweight but it’s lighter than a Big block Olds or Chevy. It pulls really well for a 6 cylinder.

My Veldoro Green "68 Firebird Sprint was my favorite car of all the cars I have owned-sure miss it-thank you for not putting in a V-8!
That sure sounds good, love these OHC six's!!!
Got to be a rare bird!!!!!
Best lookin body with the chrome front, nothing wrong with that OHC 6🤠
The mighty OHC 6!
Very Nice 👍 👌 😉 😌 Completely Stable at idle Beautiful 😁
I put triple webers on one of these and it gained 50hp before the jetting was even perfect.
Sweet Ride. I love the white interior. I hope your cruising this summer in that rare OHC 6.
(Post good car show stuff)
Thanks! I’m excited to drive it this summer. Just have a few bugs to work out first.
It sounds like a swiss watch!
They came with a glass pack and a resonator and sounded like a Jaguar
I have one of these motors for sale with the 4 barrel and split exhaust.
Looking good! Sounds good!
I sure did love my Sprint.
Love that little engine!
Well done.
Thank you!

Beautiful car
Thank you! And thanks for watching
Very nice
congrats
Richardson High School in Dallas used to have one of these engines on a stand in its auto shop.
Wow, that’s pretty cool!
I remember seeing these in junkyards as a kid. They looked cool with aluminum cover. Was this one of Delorean's ideas?
As far as I know yes, this was Delorean’s idea. I remember seeing lots of them in junkyards too when I was a kid!

Nice car keep it stock. Be a shame if someone turned it into a fake G.TO. Did you replace cam belt?
Rare motor.
Any advice, i have a beautiful inline that was original to the car, but also have a v8 that id love to put in it....

Pull it out. 326,350,400. Poncho engine power please.
Plenty of V8 Firebirds out there to satisfy you Ronnie. You do what you want, I’ll do what I want 😊
