I fish a clear deep lake. I often find fish at 20 to 30 feet down, sometimes deeper. I see a lot of fisherman wander over deep productive structure with their electronics, casting where ever they spot a fish or two. Sometimes they catch something good. But they struggle to control their depth and speed and much of their effort is spent casting out letting their bait reach the right depth, move it a few hops and then retrieve it back to the surface far from any fish. When trolling, I can maintain good depth and speed control and keep the bait where the fish are longer and cover a greater area more quickly to find fish that might have moved off after they were spotted on the finder.
Charles, You understand what it takes. Keeping the lure at the right depth and controlling your speed is a key component of successful fishing. I spoke with another Spoonplugger yesterday, also fishing a deep lake, who got into big northern pike at 25' on the troll. He had a blast catching them for 45 minutes. Thanks for your input. Jim
You sir, are the only open minded spoonplugger I've encountered. I had to leave Facebook groups. But, this system works! You just need the right boat to be thorough.
@@KissmyBasss Willy, You are working with what you've got. Buck would be proud. Don't listen to those other guys and don't let them discourage you. Go get 'em. Jim
Casting and trolling !!! I like my electronics but!! Don t over ly depend on them 😢 they can rage over them all they. Want !! Then wonder how a old dude in flat bottom boat,8 hp can break their hearts!!sometimes!! LOL knowledge!!work!!!! Thanks Jim and buck Roger Howell wheeler dam area al
If I had a tiller boat instead of a bass boat, I would 100% follow the book and would've never bought ffs. But, I have what I have and trolling still works.

We go out to cast, but almost always end up trolling and sometimes that's the only fish or two we catch. To me, trolling is as important as AT2.
It's just another tool to put more fish in the boat. Jim

Roger, My sentiments exactly. Take care, Jim
Trolling will never be replaced because you can't reach the higher speeds needed sometimes just cranking a lure.
Bill, You're right on. Jim

You work with what you have. Been there, done that. Go get 'em. Jim
Your depth finder does not have hooks on it. You can do both at the same time and catch fish.
Take casting or trolling out of mix and watch ur fishing go down hill big timeee
Roger, How right you are! Jim
