    To be fair, the military recruitment ads make it seem exactly like a video game as well.

    • @Neakal
      @Neakal 28 дней назад +4

      That's by design really. The US Army actually funded/sponsored a few FPS games as a recruitment tool. Not Call of Duty (though I heard of plenty who enrolled after playing MW2). America's Army was one. I think one of the Spec Ops games (obviously not Spec Ops the Line. I want to say Spec Ops 2, but don't quote me on that) was also sponsored.
      Before then, they would sponsor films (think Top Gun was an example) with accurate equipment and guidance to improve their authenticity.

    • @jasonvdw9082
      @jasonvdw9082 28 дней назад +3

      @@Neakal yup, they even refuse to offer equipment if the movie doesnt depict the military in a positive light, cheaper to just allow the military to be advisors on the film and get to use their gear than blow their budget renting equipment. Thats how we ended up with all those murica strong movies right around the time afghanastan was starting to go to shit

      @Neakal 28 дней назад +1

      @@jasonvdw9082 Aye. If I recall right, both Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now fell foul of that. Apocalypse Now ended up hiring helicopters from the Phillipines gov't, but they were periodically recalled because the gov't was fighting actual communists at the time and needed them.

      I wouldn't call war stupid. On its alone it's just an act when two parties can't find a solution to problem peacefully, or one party wants to assert their will on the other one no matter what and therefore the latter has no other chance but resist to protect themselves. The latter is happening right now in Ukraine. People forget that war is the ultimate conflict between two parties, but we wage war daily on a much smaller scale, in different forms. It is essentially war when you fight against crime, it is war when you fight against a disease using medication or science. Waging war is baked in our DNA, and ultimately it is about our will to live on the terms we consider for ourselves the best.

    • @kvazimedvedababl
      @kvazimedvedababl 28 дней назад

      Nothing stupid about war, its about infuence, resources, dominating global order, destroying your geopolitical enemy by any means. US orchestrated coup in Ukraine in 2014 spent billions since. US wants ultimately to fragment Russia into 20 warring states, US swoops in takes everything it wants. Everyone who thinks war is stupid watches to much CNN. Maybe its stupid to the average Joe not to old rich men making the decisions

    I remember reading a sci-fi short story involving military simulations. This was back before Playstation and before even PCs. Video games could only be played on arcade machines costing a quarter. The protagonist had a sign over his simulator. It said, "The real world accepts no quarter."

    The best warriors all throughout history understood one indisputable truth, that we are ALL dead men. The faster you realize that, the better soldier you will be. No one survives in the end, whether that is on the field of battle tomorrow, or in bed wearing a diaper with dementia. You conquer your fear of death, and you can achieve great combat success. History has proven it too many times to count. Prayers for the souls of all the young men on both sides... it truly is tragic that these brothers are killing each other.

    Very well done. However, at least in my experience, you don't have time to process all of those emotions and go through those thoughts with the threat of combat. It tends to hit you later, back on base, where everything is eerily quiet, except for noises you've never noticed before, than the images hit you and you start processing all you did and saw.

    I played COD and went to Ukraine to join the VL.
    It IS similar. In both settings, the one that is more alert and has faster reflexes is the one going home. The ukrainians were getting killed more than the VL guys because they don't have that there. But it's also tears, seeing your friends blown up. Only the mentally strong can stomach war. My first day seeing action I got my arm fucked up, but i stuck it out, that day 9 people died from a shell going through a wall killing our team when we had JUST cleared said house. We hung around feeling victorious when we should have kept moving. Arm still fucked up from shrapnel. Seen intestines hanging out, screams were so LOUD, no, it's not Call of Duty, but if Call of Duty was realistic, and you were there, it's the same. Running and gunning and killing people who are also running and gunning, and i assure you you can definitely run when someone is blasting at you

    Except in the case of Ukraine, the Russian whom you killed was mere cannon fodder. His life was never valued; not by his family, not his government nor the culture in which he grew up. The people who sent him don't care - they'll simply send more in his place. His widow will not mourn his death. Rather, her preoccupation is on proving his death so she can get a free Lada or some other form of reimbursement. Feel sadness at having to kill, feel horror at what large caliber weapons do to a human body, but do not mourn the Russian dead in occupied territory. Either they die or more Ukrainians die.
