As much as I have used Gigabyte motherboards over the years I can't ignore the RMA problems people have had with them over the years. I'm using an Aero G right now and have had no problems with it but I honestly can't say I'd recommend Gigabyte to anyone.

Your work reviewing this mobo is appreciated, thank you. I bought the same one awhile back they had the aorus that was similar didn't quite know the differences. I got the latest F5a bios updated. My only gripes with it is that when loading Modern Warfare 2 for example it crashes quite regularly can't tell if it is the games software incompatibility at high speeds (7200mhz) or the mobo's fault. Its probably has to do with the game a lot. The xmp 7200 runs windows fine but crashes mid game sometimes. I like the DDR5 auto booster option as well as low latency and highbandwith mobo settings. However I can only reach 5600 and below with some amount of decent stability.

  • @sanitychecktv
    @sanitychecktv Год назад +9

Yeah it runs great, but some gigabyte boards (especially Aorus series) have horrific issues with vrm whine, a high pitch screech that wants to make you claw your ears and brains out. Feature set is amazing and I'm sad I had to return mine, funnily in the store the reaction was "another one"
Make sure you're able to return it

    • @Justifier
      @Justifier Год назад +1

I can confirm this is not at all an exaggeration
Had a z790 Aorus Master for about 2 weeks that I sent back for it, thank goodness for Amazon return windows
Was able to order a new board and have it arrive then send the z790 back with zero PC downtime
I'd never heard of coil whine on a Mobo before, but the claw your ears off bit is absolutely accurate when you're running the PC at full throttle for a few hours worth of rendering and trying to do other things off the PC without ambient noise
It made a ~45dB air purifier on full blast sound like it was off
Made me reconsider my case choice as well: swapped from a Geo M8 Cow to a Silent Base 802 with dual solid side panels just so I won't be as affected by coil whine on the future
Turns out, lots of glass and direct exhaust ports without filters do little to absorb noise, just reflects. Who'd'a thunk
Absolutely miserable two weeks, definitely soured my opinion of Gigabyte beyond what their bad Customer Service reputation would ever be able of achieving

Literally bought this MB for my 13900k system recently, with DDR5 64gig. Bought another 2, 64gig dimms, will update this comment how stable it is with the 128gig, xmp enabled 😉. Very happy with it so far!
Update: Ive installed the 2nd kit of DDR5 ram. Now its 2X 64 gig dimms, but to get my system to boot up I had to turn off XMP in bios before installing the new ram. Put it in safe mode . At the moment I have both kits running on safe mode (4000mhz default) and when I tried to enable XMP, the system did not boot. Safe to say that XMP did not work.
However, There is a chance to m,manually increase the latency until a stable level is reached. Ive been advised to try out 4800mhz but still need the time to do the tweaking. Ill update the comment again if I reach something that works.

That's the one I tought about when I was thinking of my new PC. But then, I told to myself that buying all the latest and greatest can't be paired with the cheapest MoBo and (I think) I found a golden middle - AsRock Z790 Steel legend. Unlike many other manufacturers (including Gigabyte) AsRock is much more gentle with the power (voltages) to your overpriced processor. Also it has one, gen 5 Nvme slot, so this motherboard can be used with the next gen hard disks too. Although all my previous builds was on top of the Gigabyte motherboards, so far I'm pretty happy with this one.

Love your vids! They've been very helpful as I'm a creator w/ my own channel and seeking to make a new build this month... Question, (and maybe i've missed a review on this on your channel) but... Specifically about the Camlink Pro... I hear you always talk about how important thunderbolt is for creators, but... Doesn't having a Camlink Pro mean you really wouldn't need thunderbolt compatibility? and here's where I went down the rabbit hole... It was hard to find me a good DDR5 MoBo that would support a PCI5 graphics card (for future proofing sakes) and one that had a PCIe slot that would work with the Cam link Pro... especially since it needs i think 4 lanes to run properly... that little 4 lane detail is crutial and someone could miss that... I do a lot of multi cam editing and having 4 cameras running simultaneously is a must. So, if i may be so bold, I think there are a lot of creators aiming to now use the Camlink Pro card, with decent GPU, With a solid MoBo, with a solid CPU... Ultimately I decided to go with this build:
    13900k
    4070ti
MSI MPG z790 Edge (please for the love of god someone do a review on this board because literally there isn't a detailed review on RUclips for this MoBo specifically.)
990 samsung (will probably upgrade to the firecuda w/ better capacity for rewrites)
    Artic 420mm water cooler
    ddr5 64gb ram @ 6000 speed (probably go up to 128 soon)
    Lancool III case
    Camlink Pro
Last think and I know this is a lot...
It would be tremendous to see a review on ddr5 mobo's that can actually run 128gb of ram... Figuring out if that would run successfully with xmp was also very hard to research.
Thank you and much love, really... your vids have been tremendously helpful to me. Me and my audience thanks you :)

I bought the AMD version of this board, and it is a good board, with the exception of audio jacks.
The audio is fine, it just does not have 5.1/7.1 surround sound jacks, only line in, line out, and mic... you need 2 more for center/woofer and rear right / rear left.
Okay, you say, just use the SPDIF out jack. It doesn't have one of those. The manual claims it can do 5.1/7.1, but I see no possible way to configure it how.
I ended up using a USB to 5.1 output jacks converter box off Ebay which works, but it dumbs your audio down to 44... which to my untrained ear, is fine. Kinda a disappointment though when you're playing audio back or editing it in 96 or 128 or 192, but only hearing it 44.
The other bum feature on this mobo is sometimes the wifi chip driver flakes out and can't recognize the wifi chip after a windows update... but so far rebooting twice has always fixed it.
Otherwise its mostly solid. On my version, I wish the SATA ports were higher or lower to be out of the way of the GPU obstruction, and there are only 4 of them, not 6 or 8 SATA ports.
The big pro is it's got one 5.0 m.2 slot, but I have yet to use it so...

Sir, I’m planning my first build following your $2500 - $3500 guide. I’d like your opinion on the MB choice.
I’m looking at the ProArt z790, but I found your video about the Gigabyte Aero Z 690 d. Both can support the 13900K, the main trade off, I think, is giving up m.2 PCIe 5 to get the 7 segment two digit diagnostic display (and a much lower price). My use case is photo and video editing with heavy use of Topaz Labs AI applications, which are quite something more demanding than the Adobe suite. I hope to have a PC to last a good 5-6 years.
Given that, would I be selling myself short by going with the Aero D?

Just one warning these motherboards have cpu auto overclocking enhancement switched on auto by default, it pumps over 300 watts thru you i9 13900k CPU and uses the thermal limit of 100 degree C as the only limit. It will degrade and destroy the CPU very quickly, so switch it off, it over-clocks but exceeds the 253W limit. It damagesthe internal memory controller in the cpu itself, and u will notice random windows crashes with a bug check screen (drops to text mode and does a memory dump.) This will increase to the point the system will not boot, cpu initialization failure, meaning the cpu will need to be replaced. I surprised Intel allows this, as it seems to be covered under warranty. mine was.

Newbie question...I have 3 inlet fans in the front and 2 exhaust fans up top with 1 more exhaust fan in the back. Can I daisy chain the 3 front fans and plug them into system fan 1 and then daisy chain the 2 top and 1 back fans together and plug them into system fan 2? Asking because it only has 3 system fan connectors on the board and I have 6 fans to connect.

I figured out this is the best board long time ago. Non AX version is even better if you don't care about wifi and bluetooth. I like that these boards have optical output as well, not mentioning decent ammount of usb ports for my 2 cameras, usb mic and Stream Deck 🫠 But even if it's the best deal I'm still hesitating as my wallet keeps questioning my ideas 😅

I considered B760 as well but I decided to go for Z790 because I want to undervolt a cpu. With good undervolt you can get great temps for 13600K or 13700K even with a budget air cooler. For 13900K even undervolting won't help a lot 😅

Has anyone managed to undervolt CPU on this board? I have 14600k and it works fine but I wonder if it could do even better with some optimization. I tried to change Dynamic Vcore(DVID) to -0.100 but it has no visible impact. After this and Changing Vcore Voltage Mode to Mamual caused to BIOS freeze. Any thoughts? Gigabyte Suppport knows nothing about UV/OC or just pretending.

The wifi6e is very fast, the 24 core i9 13900k is very very very fast, the m.2 ssd drives are crazy crazy fast over 5000Mbyts/s on a cheap 1T drive, the on board graphics is acceptable. The mb boots fast into windows, takes seconds, its very fast, But the i9 13900k cpu draws an awful lot of power, because it absolute massive cpu, 24 cores it like 4 computers in one. The cpu will go crazy fast and draw over 350Watts hundreds of amps with default factory settings, leave the completion in the dusts and destroy it self.
