This is the first time I have left a comment on any podcast. I am grateful for all the helpful advice from Dr. Chatterjee and guests. I would like to mention a group of people who are often overlooked ~ caregivers of disabled children. This role is one without an escape. It is a macro stressor from the time of diagnosis and continues to be macro and micro day in and day out. Their purpose is to care for their child and literally every part of caring for them is smothered with stress. In many cases the care is 24 hrs a day. I thought I would mention; if you know someone caring for a disabled child or don’t know them, your kindness and support would be a beautiful gift to give during the holidays and throughout the year!

What I found works for me, being in the position you mention, is to see that disabled child as a soul who chose to come here to earth to experience just what they are experiencing. I chose to come, to support them. Whether or not you are rolling your eyes at my 'method', it is the ONLY relief I have ever found, and with this 'belief system' tool, I am heppy and enriched. My periods of absolute stress are much shorter, until I can recall my chosen belief system and call on my higher power beloved creator to step in and bear the burden of worry with me, so I am not alone. Peace.

@@blissbrain my best friends youngest son was born with a heart defect & when they did the big open heart surgery at 10 months, they messed up. He came out of it with brain damage. That was beyond traumatic & it wasn’t even my own child.
I had discovered Dolores Cannon’s video on life after death & she talked about how some souls choose their disability bc they & especially the care giver can heal so much karma & take a faster track to ascension (that was definitely not verbatim). Whether anyone believes in all that is up to them, obviously.
When the time was right, I shared that with her. She cried & it was a good cry ❤️‍🩹

I started doing these game changers this past year. Once the sun goes down after 5pm, I dim the lights, as I prepare a light dinner and I no longer take calls after 7pm . I am back to my mint tea ritual after dinner. I am also getting into a habit of getting off the compter between 7pm- 8pm and I use my last hour before bed to catch up on my yoga and core exercises or reading in bed. I have also been practicing intermitten fasting for three years now and that has been very affective too. Thank you for the wealth of information you always provide on your Podcast. Happy New Year!

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes significant enough for Dr to tell him he couldn't control by diet and was put on Metformin. My husband researched diet and low carb diet and he's now lost weight (he was not hugely overweight) and he is in remission. As a nurse I was amazed that this was possible. He did it himself - the NHS management would not have got him to normal range blood sugar now for over a year.

Hi! I’m really happy for your husband. The NHS are now offering some of their diabetic patients a low-calorie diet. It sounds exactly what your husband did.
From the NHS website: “There is evidence that eating a low-calorie diet (800 to 1,200 calories a day) on a short-term basis (around 12 weeks) can help with symptoms of type 2 diabetes. And some people have found that their symptoms go into remission.
A low-calorie diet is not safe or suitable for everyone with type 2 diabetes, such as people who need to take insulin. So it is important to get medical advice before going on this type of diet.”
Diabetes UK has more information on low-calorie diets.

Lots of people are afraid to be alone with their thoughts or not “doing” anything. I find this is especially true with strong extroverts (bc it’s really a continuum). On the other hand, introverts prioritize the quiet and alone time, but they don’t prioritize TURNING THE DRILLING THOUGHTS OFF. So in a sense, they are still too busy in the MIND.

Dr. Chatterjee, would you consider a podcast on chronic fatigue? Some of these solutions seem helpful for it, but it would be wonderful to hear more about addressing more lingering situations.

    • @HAL9000_ICantDoThat
      @HAL9000_ICantDoThat 2 года назад +12

There have been a number of studies linking gut health with chronic fatigue.
I'd recommend a very clean, unprocessed diet, which incorporates good gut promoting properties e.g. sauerkraut, kimichi, yoghurt & especially kefir.
Think of ypur gut like a rainforest I.e. you want it to be as biodiverse as possible. There are numerous different strains of probiotics and so when consuming a product, say yoghurt, look at the ingredients to see the different strains it has. As you don't want to populate your rainforest with say just oak trees.

Future video idea: @33:00 you talk about light and how it affects our ability to rest. You mentioned brightness which is a big part. We live across from a shopping center that replaced its natural lighting with an amber glow to bright white LEDs that shine right in our bedroom window. I've noticed these same lights shine in close to 30 different apartments where I live. Around 10 years ago I was told that people who work under florescent lighting most of the day with no natural lighting were developing cancer. I more recently learned that people who are extremely sensitive to EMR (electromagnetic radiation) like in our cell phones, from cell towers or from a internet modem experience sensitivity to florescent lights as one of the first symptoms. The blue light in our phone does something to affect our melatonin production. Anyway, light could be another video!

I am absolutely convinced, with it empirically proven in my life, that if I don't eat some healthy snack (especially fiber based) at bedtime, I don't sleep well. For my body/ health, it is just the opposite of this video. If I feel even slight hunger, I will not be able to sleep, or will wake up prematurely with hunger. The difference is that modern docs just don't have time. You're just not able to spend the necessary time without blowing out waiting times to get an appointment

Within a week I found out I had lung cancer in the very beginning stage. It was found in June. However I wanted to see a better Hospital. It ended up that they didn't believe it was long Catherine left it in me another 4 months. I had surgery December 1st I was up and out of the bed in 2 days and walking Akita dog on the third day. Thank you, Dr. Rangan! I first started watching this video on my cellphone, and found that if I tapped on "Show transcript," I could read one sentence every five minutes or so, auto-generated, which often makes me smile at how inadequate "Auto-generated" text is. On a computer, I tap on the 3 horizontal dots at the right side below the video window to open the transcript. I have played with speech to text for several years now, using the Dragon Dictation software. In an earlier version, I once dictated "I referred this patient to a dermatologist" and Dragon transcribed it as "I referred this patient to a damn pathologist." I almost fell off my chair laughing! Especially because I spent two years training to be a pathologist but switched to Internal Medicine instead. Anyhow, as to the transcript, one line every 5 minutes really doesn't do justice to any video, really.
Anyhow, very good to listen to your heartfelt ideas about how we humans are tearing ourselves down mentally and emotionally and with bad habits. No wonder we're tired and worn out, and indeed we are shortening our lifespans with bad habits. Life is always going to have stress; the trick is to not allow anyone to "push your buttons." It's the post-prandial dip syndrome, due to the increase of sugar in the blood, which needs to be dealt with. When the body is in digestion-mode, especially after a heavy meal, the energy required doesn't leave enough for the brain to work properly, and that's why we're sort of falling in a dip.

They’re high quality from Warby Parker; I used to wear them all of the time when I was an admin and infront of a computer all day. I think they do help (like your Amber glasses) key a lot of the blue light out of my eyes and help me unwind. I even wear them to evening movies. They really help. I read about a regime 30+ years ago from the British Midwives association called the " FORESIGHT" Program. Its intention was to assist with fertility - however, as a Clinical Psych student, we all had to follow it for a semester to learn about various methods of relaxation. It included many of the wise aspects you covered here. Looking back, I realise it was the most refreshing SLEEP I have ever enjoyed! I also accidentally fell pregnant, so I can totally attest to the fertility aspects as well! Another piece of the Foresight program that made it even more effective was eating high quality, fresh food - organic where possible. Particularly proteins ( eggs/fish/cheese/chicken/milk ). I felt lighter and my system was less taxed. After about 14 days, my RAS got into the groove. Your podcast has reminded me of a fantastic time of self-care that I could absolutely get into! Thank you for that.
