Ron Mendenhall - The Vietnam Service Medal is awarded for service during the period July 3, 1965 through March 28, 1973. I earned mine (In Country), along with the Combat Action Ribbon, in 1972.
I serviced with the 54th Arty Group from 1967-68. I was at IIFF67 doing the TET Offensive and went to 101 Airborne at Camp Eagle till until shipping back to Fort Lewis for discharge and never received medals or ribbons. My state senator forward my request to the Department of the Army which sent it to the Record Department in St. Louis which said they are under staffed and that medals request are low on list of this to work on. Can I help me, William Fulton, 7800 Paynes Landing Road, Gloucester, VA 23061.
I earned the Vietnam Service medal with USMC device - silver star - and three bronze stars (for a total of 8-campaigns). How are these devices arranged on the ribbon? I am thinking that the USMC device is center with silver and bronze star on wearer's right of the USMC device with one bronze star closest to USMC device and with the additional two bronze stars on the wearer's left of the USMC device. Is that correct?
@richardpcrowe - YOU WOULD BE BEST TO DROP IN AT A RECRUITING OFFICE IF THERE IS ONE IN YOUR AREA OR A MILITARY BASE OR POST WHERE THIS WILL ALL BE PROPERLY EXPLAINED TO YOU EVEN THOUGH YOUR DESCRIPTION SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD BE CLOSE TO CORRECT - SEMPER FIDELIS - {{ REMEMBER THERE IS HONOR STILL ... @mcvandersluijs6130 -LETTERS " HLP " STANDS FOR " HIS LORDSHIP PRODUCTS " OR ANY OF THEIR ASSOCIATED COMPANIES - IT IS A MANUFACTURER OF MILITARY MEDALS / INSIGNIA AND SO ON FOR THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHICH CAN BE FOUND AT ANY MILITARY EXCHANGE AND SOME MILITARIA DEALERS. - SEMPER FIDELIS - {{ REMEMBER THERE IS HONOR STILL ... @@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 it is also not authorized if your in a combat zone and are killed/injured in an accident such as traffic. Or die from sickness.
I have all my cousin's Vietnam medals. He was killed in Vietnam at 23 years old. He was an only child with no children of his own and both his parents are gone now when his father died we found all of them in a box and letters from Vietnam. His purple heart, bronze star, service medal, gallentry cross, Merritt medal, etc. I was shocked no one wanted them so I took them. I want to make a shadow box in his honor. Not sure how.
1:55 funny, cause I’ve seen both armed forces expeditionary ribbon and Vietnam service ribbon worn together. ?
that can happen considering how many other campaigns the AFEM is awarded for.
Ending date for the Vietnam Service Medal is 1975.

Yes, it is always authorized when killed in action but not if in a peacetime accident.
