This was a great video! Helped me learn a lot. I do have one question though. Online, many sources said the WWII bronze star was given in a black presentation box with yellow text while some say it came in a plain white box, so im not sure what was the box it came in. If you do know the answer I would love to hear, but great video!
The World War II bronze star was presented in a dark blue leather type fabric box with gold trim around the edges, the name Bronze Star Medal was embossed on the center of the box in gold.
As a veteran wearing awards out of precedence should be acceptable IMHO. Because some lower medals have more meaning to me.
Is there a miniature CIB, Airborne, or Air Assault allowed? Thanks
Normally, you would not wear those badges, but there are times when it is appropriate and if you want to go ahead. V the combat infantry badge is so prestigious. I would certainly consider wearing it most of the time.
Wearing that after retirement or separation screams, “I’m institutionalized”.
Excellent guidance and video
Are there any lapel pins for Gold Star Family ?
Yes, there is a gold star, lapel pin , which is a gold star set in a circle of purple, which is surrounded by a gold circular frame.
Please discuss wear for women veterans.
Especially how to be worn on civilian formal attire.
I will work on that, thanks for the push.
@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 thank you. My GF is an O-4, has more fruit salad than I do, we attend black tie events on occasion and I feel bad wearing mine cause she doesn't want a miniature set to wear. More an issue with how would they be worn/look on a gown. And as the side note because I do have a pocket Jewel for Lodge so I wear my medals on my lapel and it is really tough finding a peak lapel tuxedo that the lapels are cut wide enough to hold a set of four wide without hanging over.
That's exactly how I wore my dad's WW2 medals on my tux to vote against fascism. The greatest generation betrayed by the worse.
I am very proud of my Navy Combat Action Ribbon. What I always regretted is that when wearing miniature medals, there is no way to wear the CAR! I hold both the Air Medal and the CAR which is pretty unique but I could never wear the CAR when I wore the Navy CPO Mess Dress Uniform.
That’s a great point and I’ll have to add that to the video. The mini ribbons solve that problem.
@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 Nice, I like the idea of the mini ribbons. One can present all of your awards and wear a suit and tie. Well Done!!
Outstanding informative video!
You don't. Pride is not worn.
Borrow them from the Estate of Verne Troyer?
I'm afraid I am unaware of any connection there.
What about the freedom medal my uncle got issued by the president
civilian award neck ribbon
@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 Not the same i was talking the 1945 freedom medal given to my uncle with silver palm by Harry Truman He was Canadian so highest they could give him for saving so many USA airmen
Thsis is US Medals the world is a lot bigger
Thanks for this video sir great information. Ima share it with my vet buddies 🤙🏾
You're welcome. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting because in the UK we mount them all in one row as opposed to multiple rows.
Yes, I've seen guys with massive rows now, those who served full careers from Gulf 1 onwards with NATO and UN medals and then got involved with cadets and have received all the royal commemoratives too.
The length of the rows is limited though. For full size medals it’s up 6 for closed collar dress uniforms and 5 for open collar dress uniforms - after which the medals overlap. For miniatures it 12/10 (open neck/closed neck) after which they overlap. Though, as with much relating uniforms in the British Armed Forces, actual implementation of this varies.
Stupidity at its finest
Why did you leave off esws
Thank you, Sir. I have proudly worn my mini-medals as well as mini-ribbons to Veterans activities and dress occasions. Mixed feelings about anodized vs. bronze: I'm fairly tarnished by my military experience. 😎🫡
You're welcome, it's great to see fellow veterans still proudly wearing their medals.
Fortunately, I will not need to attend another d&ps. Great advice, and thank you for your presentation.
Cloth backing of the original mounting is intriguing. It may be a nod to the Naval Aviator Greens uniform. Or, it may have originally been a of portion of a wardroom green baize tablecloth. In that case, the original mounting could have been made on ship as a farewell gift. Either way, it's a wonderful piece of personal history which you have fantastically enhanced!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and appreciation for the display!
Can they be worn at a wedding
Absolutely
Salute
In the rest of the world minature are worn in 1 row, no more than 16 centremetres wide.
Great information. Thanks!
Thank you for creating this instructional wear episode. I’ve seen many veterans wearing miniatures on civilian dress clothing incorrectly. I’ll be sure to share this widely
You're welcome, I'm glad you found it helpful!
I was a US Army Special forces officer in VN. When wearing miniature medals on a civilian tux, where would I wear unit citations? My unit received a PUC and VN Cross of Galantry unit citations when I was in it, so I am authorized to wear them. Miniature bars on the right side or what?
It's interesting that the Commonwealth it's common for veterans to wear their medals at appropriate events in civilian dress but not so much in the states. Our general rule of thumb is mini's for evening events and full size for day events.
Can you show were to put mini ribbons. Can they be worn above the pocket on a sports jacket. I don’t think mine will fit on a lapel. Great video
If it would not fit on the lapel, then I suggest over me I get your pocket on the left breast.
So how are we ladies supposed to wear them?
I believe the same way you wore them on your Class A or dress uniform. I remember my late wife complaining because she did not have pockets to line the ribbons to. She always had to move the medals or ribbons up or down on her coat if she had lost or gained weight, so they were correctly displayed.
Great video, Sir! This is a unique topic you don't really see. I learned about the mini ribbons, and where they came from. Pretty cool info.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Sir great videos as always
Thanks for watching!
Nice to see you back Colonel many thanks
Thank you for this video. I've been pretty conflicted about wearing my medals (OIF veteran). Other veterans at events I have attended wear theirs (in accordance with this standard) and its kind of encouraging to see. Again, thank you.
I am glad I could help, thank you for your service.
The anodized medals look like they're made of plastic. I prefer the bronze ones.
my camera work did not do them justice.
@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 No, your camera work was fine. I've always thought the anodized medals looked plastic.
Wearing a set of ribbons with a unit affiliation would look pretty dapper. Maybe, a unit affiliation could be worn on the right lapel to balance out the ribbons on the left.
Or infantry rifles, or cavalry sabers...
Actually, you can get the mini. Ribbon’s with the unit awards as well, for Army veterans they just go along the bottom of the rack. I should’ve chosen a more detailed example.
@ There is a unit affiliation pin that soldiers wear on their uniform that usually is displayed on epaulets and/or above the current "unit award rack" above the right breast pocket. (it's a unit crest, like the one I use on my RUclips avitar) This is usually related to a former unit, or the last unit you served in combat or peacekeeping operation with. A unit award is only allowed to be worn on the left hand side only IF the soldier was with that unit when it was awarded.
Excellent
Thank you for the feedback!
WELL, this is Useless for female Veterans.
Bow mount That's how the Queen wore hers
👍👍👍
Excellent video!
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done!
AMAZING office. And those annodized are more than just a few dolalrs more. About $4. And full sized even more. My medal rack, in annodized, was about $400.
Yes, those are very nice!
Clearly someone went above and beyond earning all those medals 😹you only have yourself to blame! ( You'd think the DOD / DVA would pay for these?? do they?? )
@@lotsofLlamas Technically, DOD does pay for each medal awarded. Going beyond that first medal as presented is your individual choice.
Thanks Colonel, enjoyed it. God bless, Rob, USNR 1987-1995
WooHoo! Thank you, Colonel!
You are welcome!
Thank you, sir
Most welcome
Sir, you are missing a non-authorized (for Americans) para brevet in your collection. It is the brevet pré-militaire. It is for students who take a 3 week course during their vacation. 3 daylight jumps without gear, and gives you the right to wear the red beret from day one when you enlist in a parachute regiment.
I was with the 121st Inventory Recent in 1985 - 1988, also was with the 726th Maintenance BN in 1980 - 1985
At Fort Riley with the Big Red One we wore the yellow and green fourragere.
Do you know of a book of WWII naval patches? My father was in the Navy from’42- ‘45 and I have been unable to find his patches for fire control service.
I served in the A Troop 1/9 cavalry Blue infantry team search and destroy air assault reconnaissance and rescue 1970-71 do you have any patches or memorabilia? Song Be fire base Huey Do you have anything that recognizes that unit. Historically known as the buffalo soldiers with the 10th cavalry? It is a first team original and the history is essential to tell the history completely. Every morning we would ride into harms way, I’m not criticizing what you are doing and I thank I just want my brothers to be remembered too. If you need more information please reply. If you search on line the history of the 9th cavalry it tells you how the 1st team operated in Vietnam the blue team was the tip of the spear.
I've got authorization in my 201 file to wear my French Commando School badge on my uniform.
Thank you for the feedback. That’s good to hear.
