So far you've reacted to two songs that I regard as upbeat fun rock but there is so much more to them. They span rock from ballads to hard rock, they can be groovy, bluesy, jazzy, really heavy or just plain crazy. The double feature of Manners & Black Hole live from their online 2021 show partly demonstrates their range although they can be softer than Manners and heavier than Black Hole. They have also written 2 songs for anime Sense and Different which are of a particular style. And then they can come up with acoustic versions which have been known to bring grown men to tears. Finally I must mention their alter ego Band Maiko which is altogether another experience, the two most popular songs being Secret Maiko Lips a cover of Band Maids Secret My Lips and Gion Cho (my personal favourite) , the only original Band Maiko song. Oh and I really haven't covered half of what they are capable of, you just have to work your way through their catalogue to fully appreciate what they are capable of.
The bass Misa plays in this song is a SG style Private reserve Misa Edition custom made by Black Cloud in Japan. Misa is sponsored by Black Cloud. All of the basses are one of a kind hand made.
Freedom is the upbeat, good time song the band loves because the audience can sing along with them. And yes, MISA uses a pick most of the time. She can switch between picking and slapping in the blink of an eye by tucking her pick in with her forefinger. Back and forth without missing a beat. She's so good at it she hasn't dropped a pick in years.

Now you understand why Jimmy Page after watching Akane's drumming said that she was one of the best drummers that he's ever heard and that she reminded him of John Bonham. Saiki reminds me of Alanis Morissette in her ability to change her vocal styles. As always Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!
Lead guitarist Kanami Tono is the exact opposite of her stage presence off-stage. She is a quiet, polite, refined, bookish, and even naive girl with a university degree in economics. Put a PRS in her hands and she becomes a rock goddess!
Kanami is probably the most naturally kawaii member of Band Maid. Miku is adorable in every way, but she has definitely cultivated a personality from her Maid Cafe days. Kanami is a very wide eyed child like soul, that has a prodigious musical talent that occupies at least 50% of her brain. She has the most beautiful soul that I have ever seen in a musician. If there is such a thing as a Kanamaidiac, I am one.
@@scottmcgregor4829 All absolutely true. If there was one person who I could sit down and have a long chat with it would be Kanami. I'm totally intrigued by her. She is totally a musical genius. (And I want to know how she wires up and what her settings are on her pedalboard)!
@@Davey-Boyd just curious. Have you watched the entire Herman Li interview/audition with Kanami and Miku on Herman's Twitch channel. It is a little over 90 minutes and she gives ( not a ton) some info on some of her gear??
Your right this is one of Band-Maids milder songs but everyone seems to love it =) If you want something with a little more punch try "Play" Live or "Real Existence" Live ! I think y'all will love both songs ! The thing with Band-Maid is the next song you hear will be your favorite =)

Performances like this show that these ladies enjoy the freedom they have worked hard for over the years more than much else. Akane Hirose (aka) Gorilla is the happiest drummer on the planet , Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin is a fan of her drumming there`s a photo of them meeting , MISA`s Bass is a SG style made for her by Black Cloud Customs its from there Private Reserve , thanks for continuing with BAND-MAID .
The two happiest drummers are Akane (band-maid) and Rina (Scandal). Both drummers are always have a biggest smile. If you want to see Rina drum solo check out the live performance of Shoujo S.

You need to checkout Onset. Great instrumental that really shows their musical abilities. It has an amazing bass solo that really shows here chops, including switching between picking and slapping in the middle of the solo.
I must commend you for not pausing at all. I think you can really see how truly in sync they are. Akane can really keep a good beat going which, if not, would tend to affect the other members. I, too have experience bad drumming and it can really bring a group down. Thank you for your reaction.

You cannot put Band-Maid into any genre, when you start listen to more of their songs you will understand that Band-Maid is a genre within themselves. Actually I would call this Japanese metal. Japanese tend to have pop elements in their metal. Even hardcore thrash bands like love bites have all of the pop chorus lines in their tunes. Japanese don't do the screamo death metal vocals coupled with the whinny chorus lines you hear in modern western metal. The Japanese believe in musical excellence like traditional heavy metal used to. To my ear I hear elements of traditional heavy metal ,punk, pop as well as some Caribbean influences this is why I think the Japanese rule when it comes to Metal. I believe that Japanese metal is the future of metal.

My gut tells me you'd like their harder songs - if you do another I'd go for Rinne MV or No God (Rinne is heavy, and No God shows you what the bass player can really do)
So far you've hit up some of their more traditional Rock themed songs... For something different and a bit more progressive, try Blooming. For something that shows off some Bass playing go with Dice, Black Hole or No God. Another underrated song off their latest album is After Life.
Nice...... Band Maid will always have that contrasting Rock/punk/metal vs pop "element" coz it's how they write their music. Kanami (lead guitarist and head song writer) will write a demo/song, discuss it with MISA (Bass) and AKANE (drums). Once the "basic-final" music is done, Kanami sends it over to Miku (Rhythm Guitarist, 2nd singer and main lyricist) and Saiki (Main Vocalist) to work out the vocal melody...... And then they all work out the finer details. As with their music contrasting their Maid Costumes..... so does their music with HARD vs POP.. That's it. Band Maid are a band of contrasts'........ yet they're not. I sense apprehension with Band Maid in your vids.... I understand why, but these ladies ARE the real deal. The first 3 I mentioned, Kanami, MISA and Akane started music from a very, very young age and are multi instrumentalist....... Shit, gotta cook food now. Did you want something “more” metal? There’s Nemophila, Hanabie and LOVEBITES out there, hell even Aldious have tracks that would scare Metallica as well as straigh Avril Levine slayers. Band-Maid have speed, precision, finesse, and as you can see, they make it fun.

Onset is a hardrock instrumental that features solos. MISA the bassplayer tucks her pick into her fingers so she can slap.
A Band favorite as well as a fan favorite. Just a fun rock song for all to enjoy. With the additional killer solo by Akane just to top it off.
