Thx Tom. Yes, I have a rock sliders install video in the can and will be releasing it by Wed. I’m editing the 34’s going on and hope to release it by next weekend.
Hadn’t thought about that but I believe it would; it would be insanely hard to get in there to cut it out. I think the low-life perps stealing catalytics would see it and just move on.
Haaa! He makes me look good doing stupid things. In the end, it’s good brother time, and we tend to have a ton of fun. We’re heading out this weekend; we’ll see who gets stuck, breaks something, or catches the most air 😄
Something rotted off my 4Runner yesterday. I believe it was a rear skid plate, but looks different from that one, but this video helped me identify it. Thanks!🙏🏻💕
Thank you La Pis, I honestly appreciate the positive feedback. I took a break from publishing due to a knee injury, but will be posting more very soon. Thx again.
My oem gas tank skid is damaged on my 4th gen from offroading wonder if the 5th gen gas tank skid would fit my 4th gen lots of things cross over from 4th and 5th gen I will have to give cbi a call
@@aired-downoverland9239 yeah its odd to me also because the 5th gen and 4th gen are the same platform lots of people take 5th gen Items and install them on 4th gens
What gauge steel is the rear skid plate? How much is it to replace….mine went from the very rear curved up to cover the gas tank on my 94 Sidekick..and all the way with large flat steel to the front of the rear tires…from the US. Mine was stolen by a welder that replaced the gas bar…skid plate brand new black wrought iron steel heavy steel…he knew what the quality it is
Thank you 🙌. Keeping the slip joint of your drive shaft is important regular maintenance, especially if you Offroad in dusty conditions AND if you do regular water crossings. 👍🏻
Is it easy? Well, I have a lift, so I’d say yes. If you’re having to do it on the ground it would be a pain, but definitely do-able, and you don’t have to do it that often. Speaking for myself, I wouldn’t let it stop me from running the CBI skids. There’s also the side benefit of the skids making it harder for someone to steal your cat. converter.
Looking into skid plates to detour catalytic converter thieves. How hard would it be for someone to steal the catalytic converter with this skid plate?
Aren't those braces "crash bars"? Do the new skid plates have the strength to replace those? Although I am not an automotive engineer I did construction engineering and honestly I don't think that is a good idea to remove and not replace those braces.
You’re removing hollow tube with a 3/8 sheet of steel, I’m personally 100% confident in the structural integrity. On top of that, CBI has been in the business a long time and know how to engineer great gear. If there were structural issues with their skids, you’d have heard about it; social media is hyper critical
Great vid and love the CBI skids - it’s unfortunate you end up with that huge gap up front by the radiator where the front plastic shielding gets removed. Really awesome though
Attach your plastic filler to your plastic bumper and then mark where that piece would make contact with the foam or skid plate. Cut there and then secure with zip ties if you need
Good job on the video. Looks like you have a nice shop too. A car lift is on my bucket list. Do you know if CBI makes these for KDSS models? Their website does not mention KDSS.
The two post lift is a game changer! If you start looking at them, make sure it’s rated to the USA standard and not Europe or other countries. I’d call CBI, they’re super helpful and will get you a quick answer.
Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out putting dents in the skids. I chose not to because I knew I would be taking them off on a semi regular basis to pound out dents and to clean them. This is easy for me due to the lift I have. If I didn't have it I would likely have used blue threadlock for sure...I'm a fan of both 3M and Locktite
I’m considering a guard for the rear dif, it’s getting pretty chewed up from rock hits. I just replaced the rear lower control arms for the same reason, one was bent and the mounting tabs on the axle were bent. 👍🏻
That fuel tank skid did not look like a vary good fit or protection i may omit that one and leave the factory one. great video i'd love to know if you can change the oil without too much of a mess. Great video as usual!
The CBI skid is considerably more protection than stock. My brother is running the same skids and it saved his tank. We had to pound it out but the stock would have folded like paper. Yes, changing oil is SO nice with a lift. You do need a standing oil drain. Maybe I’ll do a video that.
@@aired-downoverland9239 I meant thru the access panels on the skids. I always use a lift and some of the holes are a bit off causing a huge mess. thanks thou!!!!
Felt the same way. RCI seems like it would provide better protection. CBI plate looks like it exposes part of the tank, I can see something popping up, like a branch or whatever and puncturing the tank. The RCI provides full coverage preventing something like that from happening. Even the stock provides full (but weak) protection from that scenario.
Any overheating issues? The main reason why I’m highly debating a skid palate is not because I do hardcore rock crawling but because the area I live in has seen an increase in catalytic thefts
I have the same truck. I just bought the TRD front plate toyota OEM piece. You think it will work with the CBI plates? Meaning just omit the front one and get the other mid skid plates?
Christian, unfortunately I haven’t tried that on mine or friend rigs, so I don’t really know. If you can get CBI on the phone it should be a quick answer. I hope it does work!
I just installed mine and had trouble tightening the same bolt that you did. I received two carriage bolts rather than hex bolts. Strange they’re still sending out the carriage bolts :(
No filler plates and no plastic piece. In my 34’s video (where the tires are mounted) at the end I drive over the camera, which gives a great view of the front skid
Great video. The only thing that I don't like is the removal of the two angled OEM braces for that frame cross-member. Those are there for torsional rigidity of the frame and CBI should've just designed the centre skid plate around them.
You’re replacing two hollow braces mounted in two locations each side with a massive sheet of steel mounted in multiple locations; more support, not less. Good question though 🙌
The CBI Skid provides the same coverage and is exponentially stronger. The stock unit is more of a cover as it would push into the tank with a decent hit. My CBI skids have plenty of scrapes, but no dents, and they’ve taken plenty of hits.
Why doesn't the vehicle already come with those skid plates? Great install though. Thanks for the video. Your brother linked your channel in his video. New sub.
Thanks for joining. Your question is a good one and one I’ve asked myself. I can see an SR5 or Limited not including skids, but the TRD OFF-ROAD and TRD PRO should include them. They include a rear locker, so the vehicle is intended for aggressive off-roading. Come on Toyota!
Anybody know if there’s a way to install these on a 2010 4Runner? It’s a 5th gen but seems a lot of these won’t work for some reason. I did the front end conversion to 2018 model, lift kit, wheels and tires, etc. really want one of the new skid plate’s but not sure if I can make it fit..
