I'm just gonna leave this here you look at any undeveloped countries and where people that live there do not wear shoes or they just wear sandals all of their feet are normal looking.. why ? Because they don't have shoes on shaping their micro growth.. it's pretty clear. I went from having no arch in my foot TO RESHAPING my foot to have high arch and wearing the right shoes matters.
Not sure about LeBron...but many athletes wear a shoe very tight or even a size smaller than what they need for additional control. Many football players do this, to have more ball control. In Basketball, it can help with better cutting, acceleration and so on.
Y’all actually wear shoes that are smaller ?? Ima size 9 and if I rock a size 8.5 playing basketball everytime I run and stop my pinky toe gets messed up. My big toe gets messed. The toe next to my big toe gets a blister on the top. Like my shi gets messed up bad
Crazy. I think about his feet almost everytime I put my shoes on wondering if his feet are okay. Now I won't think about it as often or anymore. Thank you.
Now I understand WHY his damn shoes are so damn tight in those areas.... And wonder, "🤔, Maybe I got a pair that were made tight.... Damn"😒🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cuz honestly, when I wear his only pair I have, I take all the laces out🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Doc, just wanted to suggest checking out the Asics Metarise. It's a shoe designed pretty much exclusively for volleyball and I'd love to hear your take on it.
Been having a bunion and bunionette since birth aswell, completely hereditary for me but it hasn‘t been getting worse with wide shoes, using shoes with 0 drop and also shoes with „fingers“ for the toes work very well
Lebron's always had a deformed toe, look at pass photos. Also, the sneakers we get at footlocker, regardless of the athlete, isn't the same shoe that they wear. They have their own custom made specifically for their foot.
exactly. they are made to last few games for better performance ie better traction, better cushion and lighter weight compared to the mass production shoes that are meant to last at least 1 month.
I'm not saying that LeBron or anyone else specifically doesn't have bunions because of heritage, but I highly doubt that the majority of people with bunions would have bunions if it wasn't for modern footwear, I've been struggling with finding shoes that fit my feet for years and when I noticed that I had a slight "bunion" I started wearing barefoot shoes and toe spacers sometimes and the bunion has gotten a lot less noticeable and also a neuroma that I had been suffering with also slowly became less and less noticeable, obviously I'm not sure for everyone but I am certain that wearing shoes that have zero drop and a wide toe base truly have improved my feet, and I would recommend almost anyone to at least try it.
Almost all the greats have messed up feet or other body parts. Charles Barkley hip is jacked, Michael Jordan's fingers are permanently dislocated, and don't even get me started on Shaq's feet 🤢
I used to use stiff, narrow toe boxed basketball shoes and it absolutely caused foot deformity and pronation. I developed a knee problem, back pain, and it wasn’t til I started using some barefoot style aqua socks around the house or going barefoot til my feet and knees got better. It’s the narrow toe box for hours a day that cause bunions and deformities. If I play ball now I use Nike Metcons. I’ve tried to find basketball shoes but they’re all too stiff, lack any lateral stability and feel like you’re locked into a brick that binds your toes, I guarantee over the coming years basketball shoes are going to change into wider boxed, low profile flexible shoes.
This video was actually quite personal for me because I have messed up toes where the knuckle parts stick up and I have a higher arch. So I really need to be smart with my shoe choices. For a long time I have always thought about surgery to correct the shape but the fusion part and having to rest and retrain the muscles for several weeks is the part that scares me. I go to the gym 5 times a week so I can’t afford to be sitting down and resting. I’ve just tried to learn to accept my defect and if I ever have kids, I’ll be watching closely at their feet to try and prevent the same issues happening to them that I’ve had over the years.
Yeah it’s different for everyone - some people it’s worth the effort to have surgery, others it’s not- gotta be a choice made with a trusted doctor and with all the facts/ options laid out
Hey Zach, loving the content! I have a question related to foot development and the effect of shoe choice on that. I have recently gotten into barefoot shoes which seem to increase my agility and foot "touch" when playing tennis. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
As someone who also transitioned to barefoot shoes and plays tennis, can you recommend tennis barefoot shoes? I heard that there aren't any because they wouldn't give enough Support, but I would be happy with zero drop and a wide toebox
Whats peculiar about Lebron and his shoes, is that Nike puts all this tech into his signiture shoes but he doesn't play in them. More recently this was the case with the 18's and now 19's. He seems to like the Ambasseders, 15's and 7's the most. Any thoughts on that Foot Dr. Zach?
This is common - pros get used to one shoe and want to stick with a certain set up which may not be the “ premium shoe” so often there’s a discrepancy- this happens constantly in tennis too which gets annoying because those shoes a lot of the time aren’t even available- I don’t think it says much about the shoe more just personal preference of the player vs what the company wants to push

Depends on your foot type - I wouldn’t be able to give specific recommendations without an exam unfortunately , I would make an appointment with a local doc
You all gotta remember LeBron came up poor. I wonder how many shoes he wore were actually his or just handmedowns! I think his feet got like that as a child!
"Can't be caused by footwear"? It's not often I question a professional, but.. What about those people in Asian countries who used to do it intentionally? You say 1:00 "otherwise anyone that's ever worn a tight shoe would have one" - I don't think that's the argument, this is about wearing the stuff *a lot.* It has to be at least somewhat affected, otherwise why wear orthopedic shoes? I do agree that surgery is unnecessary though, if you're Lebron your feet are probably pretty good at what they do. No reason to mess with that.
I say and show in the video thats poor fitting shoes can speed up an already deforming foot- I think you're referring to foot binding which is done with compression wrapping 24/7 starting when a girl is very very young when the joints arent formed yet- unless you wear a shoe constantly its hard for it to form your foot and if it did you would be more likely to get hallux varus not valgus and more likely to develop mallet toes not hammer toes - This stuff is largely hereditary and the interesting part is we know that because its been studied from bones of people who never wore shoes all the way through generations who have worn different eras of shoes
@@FootDoctorZach Thank you for the response! I misunderstood your original point in the video, to mean "footwear can't change your feet" - Now I think I get it, you were speaking of the specific conditions. Oh by the way..You wouldn't happen to have a video in the works about how to stop a slightly ingrown toenail from getting worse? eheh, no reason in particular..
@@FootDoctorZach maybe not 24/7 but you are forgetting many of these players spend 10 hours a day in the gym training. so it can still deform the feet especially on high impact activities. i believe in the golden age corsets werent worn 24/7 either yet it shaped unnaturally slim waists.
it depends on the shoe. i wore a shoe 1 size too big and it damaged my big toenail in 1 session to a point it turned black and started coming off after 6 months. had to trim it and tape it before it fully detaches to avoid accidental pull new toe grew back but was slightly deformed.

hey doc! can you help me how to fix or treat the front of my calves everytime i play basketball they hurt really bad i tried putting ice, hot and warm ointment and even putting warm water on it but it doesnt go away when i play again
Depends on your foot type - I wouldn’t be able to give specific recommendations without an exam unfortunately , I would make an appointment with a local doc
sounds like shin splints
Can u fix a bunion without surgery?
YES! Look up minimalist shoes and toe spacers
You all gotta remember LeBron came up poor. I wonder how many shoes he wore were actually his or just handmedowns! I think his feet got like that as a child!
dont forget these guys grew fast so before they knew it their feet have outgrown their barely new shoes. kids arent that sensitive about fittings.
I have those shoes
So u put Deion sanders foot in the thumbnail
That says it all LeBron alien 👽
Why did I click on this 🤔
My powers are sometimes that strong
It’s the Nike Shoes Lol
😂
bro the feet functionalist
Nike air max have shaped my foot slightly from wearing them all my life 😂😂
Same bruh my toes looking a little odd compared to other ppl
Do Shaq next
His feet maybe normal, but they’re still caused by weak muscles
Sneakers shaped our feet nowadays unfortunately.
lebron james foot lore
please review lebron 17 low
👍👍
When I wear Lebron 18 I understand to reason of Lebrons fingers shape LUL
LeBunion
Lol
Kobe had same issues
I have to admit. Basketball is probably the hardest sport on your feet. I lost 2 toenails in my time & had to wrap my feet for every practice
Hoops running and tennis all crush your foot for sure
I’m pretty sure Football and Soccer Players have the same or similar feet problem
Yep- lots of pivoting injuries
it depends on the shoe. i wore a shoe 1 size too big and it damaged my big toenail in 1 session to a point it turned black and started coming off after 6 months. had to trim it and tape it before it fully detaches to avoid accidental pull new toe grew back but was slightly deformed.
