I think a show is a great idea, but like Cyprus said, a lot of imperative sections would have to be immediately ruled out, such as the SkyWing arena, which took up a huge portion of book one and had repercussions that lasted through two story arcs. Just Peril alone would have to be redone as they couldn't have a dragon with fire scales melting off faces and stuff, but taking Perils fire scales out of the series would completely change so many things about the series. They'd have to shoot for more of a teen audience rather than a kids audience then, which takes out a huge chunk of the viewers, thus lowering the amount of revenue, which might push the series into debt, making it impossible to do. The series is great, and would make a good TV show, but that really depends on how they decide to tackle issues like that.

I agree with almost everything you said, as someone who can read eight hours straight I appreciate it when I can sum something up to my friends by showing them the graphic novel, rather than explaining an 8 hour book plot.
I'm actually hopefull for a TV show. A TV adaptation would allow for a different take or direction on the same story, unlike a graphic novel. It also is the perfect opportunity to correct some of the missteps in Arc 1, and especially Arc 2 if it comes to that. My biggest gripe with WoF has been that every mainline book is restricted to one PoV of one character and never more (I could rant about this all day but I hope Tui drops this trend if she ever does a 4th arc). A TV adaptation would absolutely have to forego this and add in some interesting side-plots or character moments outside of that book's PoV, which would do wonders for not only the character's themselves, but the world building. I can easily see each book getting two 45-minute episodes each with maybe a 3rd for the final book and still hit all the major plot points with plenty of breathing room for side plots and non-PoV character moments. As for the violence, you can actually get away with A LOT with just a TV-PG rating. As long as it's not overtly human and overtly red blood, you can get away with some pretty gruesome scenes as long as you're creative about it. We might not see Tsunami snapping Gill's head, but we will definitely hear it. Really it all depends on the crew behind the adaptation. Some book to TV adaptations change quite a lot from the books and can end up surpassing the quality of the source material. Game of Thrones suffered because the adaptation was *too* faithful, so when they ran out of source material, they gave themselves no room for creativity.
I don't mind having one POV character but having interesting side plots or more build-up with some storylines, mainly the Vulture storyline, would be great. It would also be fine with me if we didn't see Gill's head snap but as long as it stays a part of the story in some way is good. Also, Tui has said that the directors had kept her up to date with the work and that they ask for her opinion on things. And Tui said that the team is looking to pitch the series to HBO.
@@Shiningclaw6161 The reason why one book = one and only PoV of a character is damaging is because Tui is trying to create these linear, serialized narritives with long-form character development. Restricting a protagonist's PoV to one book and one book only means you have to cram nearly all of their development into one book because that's the only time you will ever get their internal monologue. It also means when you split them away from another PoV, we don't get to see what they're up to. Like when Winter leaves Qibli and Moon in Possibility. We never get to see what they do but it would have been a perfect opportunity to really establish their relationship so it doesn't seem like it comes out of nowhere in book 10. Also, once a character's PoV is done (and there will not be any more for them), characters will often just stagnate, be flanderized, or shove any further growth off screen. There are plenty of other reasons why Tui should just drop this silly format. But most of the problems the fandom has with any character or story can be directly linked back to this.
I agree with this. One problem, of course, is getting an animator ready to work on this for an extended period of time, and also having a nice art style that the fans won't get annoyed at. animating is hard, but i'd also love to see a tv show.
❤ this video!! I'd say that I would rather see more graphic novels because I like how they draw the characters. I can't wait to see how they draw silkwings!
I enjoy the written more, not just because i like written books better than graphic novels, but also because the graphic novels will end up removing some of my favorite scenes or dialogue sometimes and it makes me sad :I however i dont hate the graphic novels i think they are just fine. anyways I love listening to ur thoughts and stories and stuff while i draw! very fun :3
Yesterday I got the sixth book and I absolutely love Kinkajou and all her colors and even the little flower in her...spines??? Horns??? Also, it was exactly how I imagined the gang to look.
I agree with everything you just said, and i love GNs. The only reason im interested in the show is bc i wonder what differences they'll make, how the designs will be and IF IT'S A SHOW WILL WOF GET TO BE ON T-SHIRTS, MUGS, STICKERS, HATS AND OTHER STUFF??? P.S. yes ik your redbubble.
my first time reading WoF is the novel of books 1 -3 They were well done in some spots where funny mistakes but overall if they were not a thing i would have never found this amazing community or your channel Cyprus! I hope your week is good!
In my opinion I would rather have graphic novels. They are much simpler than a TV show. They are one of two graphic novel series that I like. Warrior cats and Wings of Fire have had great graphic novels so far. So far I think that book 3 was the best out of them all in my opinion. It had good humor and the rainforest looks so beautiful in color.
I actually discovered Wings of Fires through the graphic novels, has no idea they originated from actual novels until I was gifted arc 1 for my birthday. Love both
Happy Easter Cyprus! They really helped me see what a character looked like--sure some of them got different colour schemes, but they were pretty good overall!
What you sed about graphic novels and helping people who struggle with reading.... OMGVI FEEL, I really struggled with reading ( I am beter but not flawless) and I preferred graphic novels so much more,1: the art makes you excited and want to see more, and 2: it cuts out so much in a good way, in a book you have to describe everything from the mane pov to a forest but in graphic novels you can just see it, it takes so much owt and makes books less intimidating. Sorry I've thought that for a long time😅
I personally haven't read the first arc exept for the grwphic novels after that I couldn't wait and started listening to the audio books of the novels. For me too it's hard to get through a big book without giving up 😅. I love the graphic novels. Also, yeah I think in the future people might just draw off the graphic novels instead of their own design, but maybe not! I love ur unique art style and ur content. Keep doing what u do!!
My only, SINGULAR complaint about the graphic novels is that they left out the part where Webs meets up with Crocodile, Cirrus/Chameleon and the rest of the Talons in the beginning of The Lost Heir. I understand that they did want to show the importance of The Missing Princess in relation to Tsunami but I also feel like Crocodile's plot-twist appearance at the end of the book would've had more buildup and reasoning if they'd somehow integrated it in (besides that one part with Crocodile and those SkyWings flying above the water.) Its not much of a complaint, and the novel still works pretty well without that bit, this is just a bit more of a personal opinion Also why are the NightWing's noses scrunched up. It's grown on me but the first time I saw it I was so confused
This is what I’ve been trying to tell my friends! One of my favorite series Six of Crows was mixed with another series by the same author and made into a show. Because it had to series crammed into it, everything was rushed and didn’t follow the storyline. Plus they made it “kid friendly” or something because they didn’t show any gore and there was a ton of cheesy graphics. I definitely do not want this to happen to Wings of Fire.
I started with the graphic novels and when I finished the 5th graphic novel I grabbed book 6 hesitantly and fell in love and now I own everyone of the books
Honestly,I'm looking forward to both more graphic novels, and the tv show because both are getting lots of attention from the fandom, and both are good ways to show how Tui imagine the wof universe to actually look like. //also I could prob Wright this better than this but oh well :| //
I really hope there will eventually be graphic novels for the legend books, Darkstalker and Dragonslayer. I love reading the graphic novels especially when I want a reminder of what happens in the books but don't want to reread the entire thing.
I actually kind of like the graphic novel style. It's very wonky sure, but I like how they make each character design distinct. I love Kinkajou's little horns that stick out and Qibli's "cool hairstyle" sorta looking frill. I think it's fun
I like the graphic novels because my little brother has a hard time reading actual chapter books so reading them with him is a fun way to bond with each other while sharing my love for the books.
Tui said she was waiting with the TV show till the compagnies have more Money before pitching it again, she didn't abandon the idea so far Also i don't see why we would need to choose between either or, like we can easil have both imo like if the book sells good ou can do Graphic adaptations If these sell good you can do a series If the series work you can do a Movie And so on What i would LOVE tho, are more goodies about WoF !
A TV show would be awesome and really show people how this entire civilization of dragons could really work, and how things look (granted, most of reading books is imagining, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I mean that it gives people a new look on what it could look like) and stuff, but there's so many things that just couldn't be included. Scarlet getting her face melted by RainWing venom, Peril melting Horizon (I'm fairly sure it was Horizon, correct me if I'm wrong lol) and Glory melting Fjord with her venom are three things that immediately come to mind. Plus, if they did a miniseries or few episodes on Darkstalker, the whole "Arctic gutting himself" thing, which was a big part of the story is also an issue. It would be near impossible to make a TV series about WoF that's entirely kid friendly. It'd have to be a teen show or something, but that could affect revenue, which affects budget and could keep them from making the whole show. It's a cool idea and I hope that it ends up working, but I'd honestly say, because of these things, that the graphic novels are a better idea.
As much as I would love a show, I have got all the graphic novels of WoF every Christmas and it gives me something to look forward to! Personally I would do graphic novels till the movie stuff is finished so we can get a film to enjoy and look forward to a new stile. 🙂
Definetly agree, as much as a show would be really cool, I am nervous that they would ruin the plot and skimp on the animation. The graphic novels are really cool and do a good job of staying true to the books, but the books are still my favorite way to experience the story :)
Happy Easter at this moment there is still snow on the ground Canada the land of ice and snow. When I started reading wings of fire i started with the graphic novel and after book 5 I just had to know what happen next so I started to read the chapter books ( last Easter ironic) it was easer cuz I know what the characters look like. They should continue the graphics novels but a tv show would be nice.
I definitely prefer the books, just mainly due to the fact that the art in the graphic novels is very unrealistic to the real illustrations provided in the actual books. I also think that reading books such as normal novels greatly expand vocabulary, writing skills, and creativity. Despite this though, graphic novels are great for kids who struggle with reading, like you brother for example. It might also help children who has dyslexia enjoy reading more. Even though I do have mixed feelings about the graphic novels, I truly agree with you, Cyprus. I think that your insight on the subject was very thought out and planed, great job! 👍👍
I have Autism Dyslexia and the graphic novels have helped me to get better and got me to start reading more then what I was and I am now reading hitchhikers guide so i like
I LOVE graphic novels, all the points made here are great! Sadly, my school teachers don't let us read graphic novels as they consider them to be picture books.
Ah, yes, gald you brought up The Dragon Prince, because that is exacly my worries about how a show could either make or break a fanbase. Practically everyone agrees the first three seasons are great. To say the fourth season is polarizing would be an understatement.
4:56 this whole bit I can say ‘yea’ to, I was one of those kids who was behind in reading. But the wings of fire graphic novels kept me reading, I now do read the books or novels now. (Please don’t ask or assume my age! I am not comfortable with it.) Also this was just me saying, more graphic novels would be great!
I would love to see an animated series because I really like animated content, but I am also worried they will cut out too much because it has to be child friendly. But if they somehow do it right I would like to see Legends Darkstalker animated because its my favorite book.
Cyprus: Tv is bad for kids as books are good yet cyprus: I will post a video on a small tv or youtube that can be shown on a pphone or even a tv This is pure gold
The graphic novels are awesome, I agree with everything you've said. Except, the style of art is good, but doesn't show everything the dragons can have (and i don't like the art styles where the torso is long, idk why) a show would be cool, but to include everything it either have to be rated R18 or just change it. I would like to try and make a show eventually, we can get voice actors, but animating is just so hard for me, im still at the start of my draweing (im impressing by all of this) have a good day, and god be with you.
I actually haven't had a chance to read the graphic novels, and I wanna get them! Mainly cuase I wanna take pride in owning all the books, bUT, I think I would actually enjoy reading them aswell! So I can see what the dragons are actually designed as vs how I saw them, and so on! Sadly I is broke, and cannot buy them rn, but I will be able to one day lol
Honestly looking at how often animation/show adaptations of book series get butchered, it's a good example of how _not_ to rewrite/interpret written media As a writer and aspiring animator, the stories I currently write always have a visual piece in mind to accompany it, and the reason I want to tell stories through both media is because they have different perks In literature, you can go into way more detail and have just about all the time in the world to establish everything you need to (within the pacing parametres, of course), and in animation/film you can add so many subtle things that only those with an eye for detail can pick up on ^^
Cyprus, i just thought of something: remember how in book 2 Starflight said that if webs didnt take tsunamis egg, she wouldve died to orca’s statue. If pointing this out because you’re probably currently making what if the false dragonets were the dragonets of destiny, and you probably might add tsunami. Maybe instead of tsunami, it can be turtle? Jusy a suggestion
Absolutely love this! I’ve never seen Glory look so stunning! Or so much like a Rainwing! I do have a question for Cyprus, I made an OC recently and am wondering if you might be able to draw her… pls comment back! I would love to see my OC come to life in your amazing style.
i love the graphic novels i have all of them actually I've read them all too but idk what else to read i would read the none graphic novels But not the ones that i haven't read as a Graphic novel
I've only got up to book 2 in the graphic novels, But I'm interested to see how they continue, as so far the cuts they have made haven't been too impactful in the grand scheme of the plot, but from a literary perspective some were a bit important. For example, in book 2 when riptide is guiding the dragonets to the summer palace there's a comment to the fact that coral outlawed eating dolphins. It's not that important but it's a subtle red flag regarding her character, i presume it was dropped to save word count.
I dont think the show will have too much cut. The script is done as far as I know they were doing storyboarding and Tui played a part in it and she seems reallt excited for it so I think itll turn out good. Its not cancelled either, Tui said shes going to repitch it she just doesnt know when because the streaming services are going yhrough financial struggles right now
I’m looking forward to the show, if it ever happens, because it’s harder for me, as a conservative Christian who enjoys middle grade/YA fantasy, to find shows that I’m comfortable with watching than to find good books to read.
I REAAALLY hope if a show is made they don't remove any of the more gorey stuff in wings of fire I hate how alot of shows just act like children seeing injured people and blood will fry their brain or somthing

100% agree! also im pretty sure Tui made sure it didnt stray far from her vision. She didnt have complete control but she definately played a big part
🐣Happy Easter Cyprus🐣
I love how the picture turned out.
You can see my art styles for the things I love in my upcoming video!
Also, Cyprus, you are amazing.
❤ this video!! I'd say that I would rather see more graphic novels because I like how they draw the characters. I can't wait to see how they draw silkwings!
I am hyped tv show or not I will wait till I die ;-; (but tbh I prefer novels) GREAT ART BTW
I absolutely love how this picture turned out- Keep up the good work.
I really like the graphic novels, mainly to see how everything looks! I think the tv show would be nice as well.
I always thought your style would have been perfect for the graphic novels since its pretty simplistic yet very nice to look at :>
I actually discovered Wings of Fires through the graphic novels, has no idea they originated from actual novels until I was gifted arc 1 for my birthday. Love both
Happy Easter Cyprus!
They really helped me see what a character looked like--sure some of them got different colour schemes, but they were pretty good overall!
I'm first!!!! I love your work soooo much, Cyprus!!
Sorry I've thought that for a long time😅
graphic novels for sure, I love how goofy they all look in them
She did a little bit of a diffrent thing with her art style and i really like it. Also how do you guys fell about the show?
Happy easter Cyprus, nice video and great art as always.
Me: waiting patiently for cyprus’s new video
Also me: checking every minute for rhe new video
I want a show next, but you do prove some good points about the animation. We have been waiting a long time tho..
My only, SINGULAR complaint about the graphic novels is that they left out the part where Webs meets up with Crocodile, Cirrus/Chameleon and the rest of the Talons in the beginning of The Lost Heir. I understand that they did want to show the importance of The Missing Princess in relation to Tsunami but I also feel like Crocodile's plot-twist appearance at the end of the book would've had more buildup and reasoning if they'd somehow integrated it in (besides that one part with Crocodile and those SkyWings flying above the water.) Its not much of a complaint, and the novel still works pretty well without that bit, this is just a bit more of a personal opinion
Also why are the NightWing's noses scrunched up.
Happy Easter Cypus and everyone remember your amazing
I think if they somehow perfected the show I would rather have a show, but that’s HIGHLY unlikely, so I would rather stick with the graphic novels
I like the graphic novels because my little brother has a hard time reading actual chapter books so reading them with him is a fun way to bond with each other while sharing my love for the books.
Tui said she was waiting with the TV show till the compagnies have more Money before pitching it again, she didn't abandon the idea so far
Also i don't see why we would need to choose between either or, like we can easil have both imo
like if the book sells good ou can do Graphic adaptations
If these sell good you can do a series
If the series work you can do a Movie
And so on
What i would LOVE tho, are more goodies about WoF !
When ever I draw my dragons I mix the graphic novel style + the chapter book cover style :)
Definetly agree, as much as a show would be really cool, I am nervous that they would ruin the plot and skimp on the animation. The graphic novels are really cool and do a good job of staying true to the books, but the books are still my favorite way to experience the story :)
I would definitely prefer more graphic novels for all the reasons you said (also I love your drawing style you are so talented!)
Also Happy Easter!
I have Autism Dyslexia and the graphic novels have helped me to get better and got me to start reading more then what I was and I am now reading hitchhikers guide so i like
A tv show would be fun yes, but it also may go down in flames.
Happy Easter Cyprus. I love your vids
Happy easter folks! if you celibrate easter
I am not comfortable with it.)
Also this was just me saying, more graphic novels would be great!
Good graphics novels and the books are much better than badly made TV show story getting into reading is great nice pieces of art to👍
I would love to see an animated series because I really like animated content, but I am also worried they will cut out too much because it has to be child friendly.
But if they somehow do it right I would like to see Legends Darkstalker animated because its my favorite book.
I really want to see winglets and legends graphic novels sooooo bad
Cyprus: Tv is bad for kids as books are good
yet cyprus: I will post a video on a small tv or youtube that can be shown on a pphone or even a tv
This is pure gold
is okay that ur late
is okay :p
BTW, your art is so good! Keep it up!
I think I was one of the first people to finish Graphic Novel 6. I finished in 1.5 hours the day it released.
Hehe I am ahead of my grade to in reading so yeah.
I agree!
Although I prefer the other non-graphic novels.
Yoo first also the drawin-
nahhh 💀
@@FE0003 bro who was the first comment Hm?
I agree with you, but I would love to see wings of fire in the dragon princes style
Btw I read a loooooot. I'm not always on screens. Also thx for the advice!
I am on book 1 and Page166 of the graphic novels I love it so so far
Honestly looking at how often animation/show adaptations of book series get butchered, it's a good example of how _not_ to rewrite/interpret written media
As a writer and aspiring animator, the stories I currently write always have a visual piece in mind to accompany it, and the reason I want to tell stories through both media is because they have different perks
In literature, you can go into way more detail and have just about all the time in the world to establish everything you need to (within the pacing parametres, of course), and in animation/film you can add so many subtle things that only those with an eye for detail can pick up on ^^
I want both so I have something to fill the void until October 3rd when the first book in arc 4 comes out
Cyprus, i just thought of something: remember how in book 2 Starflight said that if webs didnt take tsunamis egg, she wouldve died to orca’s statue.
I've only got up to book 2 in the graphic novels,
But I'm interested to see how they continue, as so far the cuts they have made haven't been too impactful in the grand scheme of the plot, but from a literary perspective some were a bit important. For example, in book 2 when riptide is guiding the dragonets to the summer palace there's a comment to the fact that coral outlawed eating dolphins. It's not that important but it's a subtle red flag regarding her character, i presume it was dropped to save word count.
For season two what if you should do if orca won the sea wing challenge pls also love your vids
Both, love reading this and a animation = mind dilemma
Explosion*
I thought I couldn't get into the wings of fire series until the graphic novels came out
I dont think the show will have too much cut.
Happy Easter, Cyprus! I’ve been wondering, how do I send fan art?
there might be an arch four but it is still being decided
I would like more graphic novels, I can fit the voices to my own standards, like Jim Carrey as Qibli XD
I literally agree with everything you said!! ❤
I started with the graphic novels so I am used to them.
Google said the 7th graphic novel is gonna be out in May (I think, I forgot lol)
