*Yeas,* _this is a death blow to EU._ It also means that even if Russia loose the war in Ukraine on the tactical side *Russia will win* on the strategical side. USA will loose its allies in Europe. Its fully possible that a European financial collapse will put EU-governments in charge that are outright hostile towards US. in Iran style fashion. US. loose Russia wins.

I love Peter's stuff and he is incredibly entertaining but don't confuse confidence in one's Viewpoint with true knowledge of the future. Just in this interview he's backtracking on many of the things he said last year were definitely going to happen like Mass famine and people freezing to death in their homes. What prognosticators like Peter fail to realize is that there are billions of people that are conscious actors in this world and all have a vested interest in survival. Charts and spreadsheets are great but they don't speak to the human spirit.

The outcomes might be speculative but the underlying demographics, geographies, and existing industrial and energy complexes take years and decades to change. The world was sleep walking into this deglobalization and fed into Peter's narrative very well. Then Russia invaded Ukraine and woke everybody up. It's like they suddenly realized there was cobra in the room and took immediate action. It clearly took Russia by surprise. It's unfortunate because Russia has so much to offer the world...if only they'd be a better neighbor.
He made an interesting point here I've not heard before. He's said in the past that Germany was demographically declining. He's also said since the invasion that their economy is on the precipice of an energy induced collapse. What's new...the large portion of the EU economy that Germany represents puts them all in peril. I'd not heard him explicitly state that before.
Peter could be all wrong but we'd be foolish not to make contingency plans for various scenarios.

Finally Peter admits the Russian people understand privation. So I've spent a lot of time in Ukraine and ventured into Russia once. One can't help but understand how similar their societies are. Most of the Ukrainians I speak with note their families raise 100-200kg of potatoes every year. Food preservation is a normal activity. As long as they have access to their preserved food and potatoes they will not starve. One also has to understand normal salaries. Unless one lives in a city the equivalent of $200/month is normal. And it seems like everyone's boss skips out on paying them at least once a year.

He has been saying the Russian will recover over a year. He should reevaluate. Nearly a million russians have left and there is no indication that 500 -600 thousand are willing to fightand die. His assumption that the Russian peoples will submit to this is just that. His underestimation of the west to ability to supply Ukraine and overestimation of Russia to supply themselves has proven to be incorrect.

He is certainly wrong about timelines, that is the hardest part to predict in anything. But just because his conclusions are wrong doesnt mean he isnt worth a listen. Look at the evidence he has and it has value. Unexpected or unpredicted things WILL happen. So no, he isnt nostradomus, but he does have some great points: demographics is influencing our economics in the background, globalization made the economy very vulnerable and we may be looking at its end, and things like energy and raw materials are taken as a given in the modern world but the abundance of them is a luxury we have been living with and gotten used to, which isnt sustainable.

This is a great interview however I would have to disagree slightly about the Neon and semiconductors coming to an end neon is used as a buffer gas just like argon and Krypton however I believe there is a company called gigaphoton that back in 2011 invented a technology that would recycle Neon gas which would reduce neon usage by 25% for complex semiconductors. The hTGM rolled out of production around 2016 and I believe is offered as a free option to add to their technology from the company if vendors switch to a Neon gas recycling program that reduces the usage by 25% which is significant. Semiconductor manufacturers will probably be able to stay ahead of the problem.

I personally know that the Ukrainians see this fight as an existential threat to their democracy, and democracy of the entire world writ large. If Kiev were to surrender, the Russians would kill literally every Ukrainian civilian as well as every serviceman that surrenders. After that, it would be Moldova, then China would feel confident enough to invade Taiwan. The CCP sees just how strong the will to fight to save not only your democracy in their country, but countries everywhere. The PRC would lose half of their military force within 2 weeks.

What I find farcical about modern China is the confusion of the people, and even the government officials. One one hand they defend the Chinese Communist system religiously and get extremely offended when other nations criticize them, they always argue that China has made so many successes and so much progress that people are just jealous, but these same people on the other hand don't realize that it was the economic zones (capitalist policies) under Deng that helped the Chinese nation become what it is today. This shows a disconnect between the understanding of the authoritarian system under Communism and the economic success under capitalist policies that helped it become the second largest economy. They can't seem to understand that the two do not go hand in hand, one will always ultimately push the other out, they oppose each other, why else would Xi be opposed to these policies, prohibiting capitalist policies now, if they didn't achieve success or oppose his Communist bias? Basically what Xi is currently pushing cannot end well for China, because it prohibits the policies that Deng implemented and therefore ultimately hinders Chinese economic growth, it basically takes China back to the era of Mao and thus destroys the entire current system reverting back to what it was before Deng. When last did we see a fully Communist system succeed economically? Never! The big question here is why Chinese people can't see this? Have they been so brainwashed that they don't understand they will go backwards with the current government policies? And a bigger question is why many experts outside China can't see this or argue the opposite of reality?

I wouldn't write off China too easily, with more than four thousand years of recorded history, and probably plenty more undocumented history behind that. To say China can be stubborn, and willing to make sacrifices, is an understatement. They certainly can adapt to a degree, but they do believe in a total top down hierarchical control (effectively with a "King" or royalty). The economy is certainly a huge part, but China survived before the West came along to engage economically, and they're far more self-sufficient now.
Russia proved when the USSR fell in the late 80's, that it's not impregnable to external pressures.
