    Hello, how are your gladiolus doing? I planted mine 2 weeks after I watched you plant yours. I did succession planting around my well head. At age 59, I must admit it was the first time I "Ever" planted anything in the ground. I have struggled soooo much with houseplants. I never thought I could keep an outside plant alive, much less grow one from scratch. I live near the coast of central Florida and was not sure what would grow well other than tropicals. What I call my Dollar Tree Glady army is flowering now, and I'm over the moon delighted with them. I've had neighbors comment how much they enjoy the changes in the yard. I wanted to THANK YOU for giving me the courage to try. You are changing lives in ways you can't imagine. Thank you and your beautiful family for sharing a bit of your lives with us. PS I bought yellow gladiolus. Got a rouge purple/pink in the bunch. It makes me chuckle every time I see it. I think "Jamie would love that" ha ha.

    Good morning Janey! Love your garden! Just an idea, for the lemon coral sedum, instead of going all the way with one row along the edge, have you thought instead of doing small groups of it all along? It would look less formal I think and blend well with everything! Also it would allowed you to add other things along the edge thant can really soften the look! :).

    Consider feeding your fabulous ginger kitties from flat plates. Cat can suffer from “ whisker fatigue” it’s a real thing. It can trigger cats to stop or be reluctant to eat.
    When they have to stick their heads in a bowl their whiskers are ultra sensitive. Think of it like an over use injury.
    Flat plates that can be washed in the dishwasher. Love the barn kitties

    Good Morning Janey, you could get so many more blooms and a nicer rose bush by trimming back to the 5th leaf instead of just lopping off the branches when dead heading. I actually love maintenance days, you get to look at each plant and give them some TLC. So glad Brian and Crookshanks are settling in and allowing you to pet them and feed them. Those baby birds in your wreath are so sweet. I hope the stump killer doesn't kill your espalier. I used boiling hot kettle water and epsom salt to kill off a trumpet vine that was invading my property and it worked after a few applications. I just poured hot water first, added handful of epsom salt and then a little more kettle water a few days in a row. Have a great day!

    Hi Janey! I think you should invest in a box of disposable nitrile gloves for chemical applications. In the event of an accident, cloth gloves don't provide an appropriate barrier and the chemical can soak into your gloves and hold on! Safety glasses might be appropriate too. Then again I'm not familiar with these particular chemicals.. just want to make sure you're safe and nothing happens!

    Question maybe for a coffee chat? If you cut back a fruit tree bc it’s dying and it grows back as a sucker? Is it possible to grow a healthy tree back from that or will it never grow a strong trunk. I’ve wondered bc the roots are alive . Maybe it doesn’t make sense bc if the tree didn’t do well there it wouldn’t in the future. Kerri

    • @FarmgirlFriday
      @FarmgirlFriday 3 месяца назад

      It will depend on if the fruit tree has grafted roots or not. Many modern fruit trees are grafted into rootstock, depending on how large the nursery wants the tree to grow (usually dwarf or semi dwarf). These roots will not be the same as the fruiting tree so trying to grow from them may only yield a tree with odd fruit or no fruit at all.
      If the tree has not been grafted then it is possible to grow them back from the roots. You’ll want to select a single sucker, cut back everything else, and train as you would a new baby tree.

    Hi Janey, I have a question. I do container gardening and I want to put my pots/containers on drip. My concern is, my hose bib is on the corner of my house and there’s no way to avoid the drip tubing from cutting across where I walk in at least 3 places. I have a high risk of falling so I’m very reluctant to install a trip hazard. Do you have any suggestions?

      Hi Tracy! I would definitely not cross your pathways. I remember speaking to you in Seattle! Have you heard of the Olla watering system? I would do something like that for now then next year use aqua pot inserts or you can hire someone to drill under your pathways and put PvC pipe under so you can bring the drip line over to the pots. 💗

    One word of caution Janey. Try to avoid fertilising / feeding your plants in the heat of the day as it can burn the foliage. If using liquid fertiliser, make sure it's properly diluted and apply it early in the morning on well-watered soil. Avoid feeding in really hot weather. If using slow-release pelletised fertiliser, the same applies - water the soil before and after applying and then cover it with mulch.

    By cutting down the plum tree and not removing the stump, did you in essential just give it a 'rejuvenation hard prune' since it is now re-sprouting? The foliage looks healthy and I'm wondering if you just don't want to keep it and regrow the plum tree.

    As a viewer …. I’d like to respectfully request that when you are showing a product a book and tags ,could you please,please ( all content creators) try doing your best Vanna White impression? 😉 Screen shotting or even while simply viewing the product while it’s bouncing all over in the hand that is moving all about as its corresponding face is talking, is such a frustration and very distracting, all the while blurring in and out of focus 😂. It brings on the absurd act of verbally trying to commentate/direct my screen . That said , 😊 I know ,we are all just so darn human trying to do our best at what ever it is we do ☀️ 🪴
