They should've killed Ryder off during the attack on Sweet just after the green sabre mission instead of getting killed like a antagonist. It would make him look like he gave his life for the gang.
That doesnt make sense at all we would never play with ryder and CJ came back to LS cuz his mom died i dont think he would come back if they killed Ryder
@@Lxdxgr lmao I'm not talking about Green Sabre attack. I'm talking about the Green Sabre mission where Caesar calls CJ and reveals Tenpeny, Smoke and Ryder's true faces, then Sweet gets seriously injured in the gang war and CJ gets arrested and sent to the countryside.
Nah. They should have made it appear like he got killed off, and then brought him back in the final fight against Smoke. and then Tenpenny could have faced off against CJ, almost killing CJ. They could have killed off ryder somewhere after this time, as it not only creates more suspense, but also more feelings of loss. Ryder, a hero, dies to save CJ from smokes trick. And because of this CJ would have even more resolve to kill Smoke and get back at tenpenny for doing shit to his family and the grove. Fun i know :D
They could have just killed him off as a GSF 'martyr' in the Green Sabre mission while fighting against the Ballas alongside CJ instead of turning him into a negative character for no reason.
I like that idea man. That would have been a much better and more fitting ending to Ryder's character than what we got. Him giving his life to the Grove sounds like Ryder to a fuckin' T, not to mention it'd make you want to kill Tenpenny even more.
yeah i wish they did that too, like have him be bleeding out with sweet on the ground while sweet is struggling to keep him from dying while hes bleeding out aswell. and then when you wake up in the badlands tenpenny just gloats about how he died in the hospital or something, would have been a more fitting end for him and it would give tenpenny more reason to get under your skin and cj more reason to resent him. would have been super easy they could have made ryder not say a word in the mission anyway. then for the mission in san fierro when you have to kill him just replace him with toreno and remove that 5 second cutscene of you and caesar shooting him off the dock and just add more gang members in the area to make up for the mini "boss battle" you have with toreno before the cutscene
PainfulHail13 4 I have always liked him the most, but when Ryder betrayed grove street lost my love for him. It would be nice if they remade the game and changed the storylines a bit so Ryder never betrayed GSF
@@kaskomisar Perhaps send him to rehab to get off that 'water'? It'll straighten him up and stop his recklessness. Other than that, he's forever a lost cause since Rockstar moved on from GTA SA. He would of been a great addition to the Post-Los Santos story.
@@twotonedrebel1891 Yeah too bad, its a really old game so they probably wont do a remake of it. and i was thinking of Ryder telling CJ and Sweet of Smoke having connections with CRASH, Ballas and drugs. Then a mission in BS house when CJ knocks on the door to confront Big Smoke noone will answer and Big Smoke's car is also away then Cesar calls CJ to tell him about something he saw. CJ goes to Cesar and on the sidewalk near the alleyway where Cesar was hiding, was Smoke's car. then big smoke shows up with Tenpenny and Ryder, who is on our side now and is just playing with big smoke. They show the green saber both Cesar and CJ split up and one hour skips by and Ryder calls CJ asking him to pick Ryder up and bring him to back to his house on Grove street. CJ picks up Ryder and gives him information about Smoke, CRASH, and Ballas. New Sweet Mission called Reuniting the families it goes as on Ryder goes with Sweet and CJ goes outside of Sweet's house and Cesar calls him again and telling him to come as Cesar found even more evidence of smoke's connections with CRASH, Ballas and basically all of the enemies of Grove including a bunch of drugs. CJ remembers Sweet and goes to him in Mulholland Intersection, Ryder is there defending Sweet and CJ kills the ballas until the police came, Ryder escapes, Sweet and CJ gets caught and Sweet goes to prison. later on the game when you get the garage card Catalina gave, Ryder calls you asking for help. he is in outside of San Fierro and a new Cesar Mission comes up going to Ryder killing Ballas and undercover yay workers. After you kill all the enemies, Ryder asks you to bring him to his safe house which is in the middle of nowhere and where he cant get found. You do missions and before pier 69 Ryder shows up in the garage like his normal self and adds some Ryder missions which has some encounter with their enemies AKA Ballas Yay and crash and in the last Ryder mission before leaving San fierro you encounter smoke and chases him only to lose smoke again, and in when you get to madd dogg ryder calls you saying he in las venturas now with cesar and you do the mission whwere you take back madd doggs mansion. When Ryder hears that you'll be staying in the mansion Ryder says that he wants to fix the hood first but stays in the mansion since hes vulnerable to getting killed by smoke
@@twotonedrebel1891 when you finally get sweet out of jail, sweet immediately wants to focus on the grove and Ryder agrees, you get two separate missions one for sweet and one for ryder. Sweets mission is the same as this one but with extra dialogue and for Ryder you go to assasination missions and killing people who are important for CRASH, YAY and a bunch of drugs and shit. and the mission End of the line goes as normal but when Tenpenny goes to CJ inside, Ryder goes to Tenpenny and shoots tenpenny to kill him but fails and gets shot and cant move and CJ has to hurry or both of them dies and abandons Ryder and leaves the building, and all goes as normal
@@twotonedrebel1891 another ending is Ryder does not die and gets helped by Grove ST homies by getting something he could fall on and CJ throws him there and when CJ gets out the building Sweet goes in the Firetruck and you chase the firetruck, Ryder later comes up in Sweets car and disrupts the firetrucks route which is a route to the airport and disrupts it to go to another route that passes through the bridge in grove st and all goes as normal but ryder is there and thus a happy happy ending this adds more hate to Smoke and also making it a sadder story because of smoke and also because now CJ can prove to Ryder that he aint a busta
Basically, Ryder’s voice actor left the game halfway through. So Ryder became a loose end and Rockstar had to find a way to get rid of him, and they wrote him into a traitor in the last minute.
They could've just hire another VA since MC Eith started bitching around. But I don't really blame MC Eith since Ray Liota, Young Maylay, or other VAs are against R*.
Maybe they could've had Ryder killed in Green Sabre mission while fighting against Ballas alongside Sweet and CJ. I don't think they had to make him a villain
@@mabuhayimplottingyourdemis423 Ray Liota was an ass to work with and Young Maylay is just mad because fans kept bothering him about his character CJ and he got fed up. That's it.
this makes a lot of sense. I always thought how raw ryder's death was. I mean, no dialogue, no drama (which would be very likely to happen, between cj and him), no nothing. He just jumped for the boat, and then, dead.
Fabiano Cruz in the beta versión, you actually shoot Ryder in the cutscene instead of T-Bone Mendez. And in the beta version T-Bone Mendez actually talks in Pier 69.
Seeing this makes me sad, Ryder was one of the coolest characters in the Game and watching this it really seems Like rockstar suddenly made him an antagonist last minute, not a fan with that decision
After I killed Ryder (I just beat the game like yesterday) I almost cried, but I was so pissed I just stopped playing the game for the rest of the day cus I didn't think he should've died, especially in that weak way, I think if rockstar was going to kill him they should of made it more dramatic than smokes death cus we knew Ryder from childhood. Also has anyone ever wondered what happened to smoke and Ryder's parents, like there's no mention.
Ryder's death scene should have been more dramatic and not so simple. Like have a cutscene that shows CJ saying that trusted Ryder and he was childhood friend and Ryder would say something like "If only you were here to see the down fall of the Grove, you'll always be a busta to me"
Ryder’s voice actor had something and he resigned from Rockstar. That’s why Ryder didn’t say much when you go chase him and kill him (all he said is he’s a mother f**king genius, you can’t stop me)
I think what R* initially wanted to do is create the illusion that Ryder was going to be the traitor since he always criticised CJ and was nagging, but in the end it would turn out it was smoke, but then they didnt know what to do with Ryder
Mastakilla91 They’re slow. They could kill him off by the ballas or have him on the run n end up with CJ in Badlands. Ryder had absolutely no potential to be a traitor and an antagonist.
They could just make Ryder realize that he is a bad judge of character, and that he was being a dick and criticizing the wrong person. Or they could make Ryder be pissed off at everyone and come in at the last second to get the villain and the hero's ass
Its KeV3nSGaMing Yeah, we all have that annoying but loyal prick in our lives. Ryder was probably going to be the one for CJ in the beta but... what happened with all the audios about Ryder for the rest of the game (if he was an ally)? Did Rockstar delete them?
Raymond Shields nah its probably they didnt have any because they never planned to have ryder in that big of a role once smoke betrays CJ but it could be a possibility
In speed runs, blowing up Ryder's car during your first mission with him will let you skip a normally unskippable cutscene when you replay it. And it somehow led to the meme "Why did you blow up Ryder's car?"
Anyone who thinks Ryder is a bad guy in the beginning of the game is a BUSTA. In all seriousness, Ryder betraying the homies is one of the saddest things in GTA history.
The thing with GTA San Andreas is that no other characters from any other games have seemed so real to me. Tommy from VC, Claude from GTA III and all the other characters, they never felt real to me. But with CJ, i actually understood his struggle to rise to the top. After finishing the game, everytime i read a quote from SA, i hear the characters who said it.
Earrape Heavy Metal Squad Supporting characters are like Big Bear, Ryder was more of a main character even though not as much as Cesar and Sweet he definitely could've been if he wasn't rushed into an antagonist.
Me too, even when i first finished SA back when i was 13, i was always confused why i had to kill Ryder, the game never build anything to makw me believe he was a bad guy, unlike Big Smoke it was easy to understand and accept his betrayal.
Before acknowledging that Ryder became a traitor due to Eiht leaving the project I thought that Ryder simply bailed off the fight scene, cause reinforcements never showed up in that mission.
i always thought ryder ran off under the pretense of gathering homies so he wouldnt have to fight the ballas. then again i didnt pay attention whether he was actually present for the shootout
2 years after this someone on Twitter asked MC Eiht what happened and he said *"Thats all they wanted me to do"* . In other words, Rockstar didn't know what to do with Ryder after Reuniting the Families. Looking back on GTA SA and how much was cut and how the story still needed work, it makes sense. After 15 years later we finally got the answer.
You forgot to mention that out of every character CJ assassinates, CJ feels so remorse killing Ryder. Not only that, but he is the angriest when he finds out Ryder is rolling with the Ballas in Photo Opportunity and Pier 69. With smoke, he was was mad at the moment, but then later in the game, he doesn't give a shit about him anymore. And even after CJ kills smoke, he doesn't feel that remorse. He just wanted to know why he betrayed CJ and the families. Edit: He even said that "He was my homie! And I killed him!" That's more proof that he wished he never killed Ryder. It's like it was a mistake killing Ryder.
Its KeV3nSGaMing My conclusions are, either Rockstar didn't want to rework the storyline they've already produced, meaning they got lazy at the end, OR they probably had a due date on when the game is gonna be released, so they just made last rushed changes. Overall, Gta San Andreas is one of the best games in the series but sadly, many of us in including myself wished Ryder didn't have to die. Or at least have a bigger role on his betrayal/more detailed explanation.
I actually like ryder the most from every other character, he's got a hell of charisma and personality and in my first playthrough i actually got sad to see him betray the grove and die later on
I think Ryders death was wasted. Ryder instead confessing that he was an addict and that Smoke used him to simply run drug errands (suggesting that he hadn't really turned, just that he was weak) would have been better. Not only would it have made the confrontation with Smoke a bigger deal but it also would have sent a serious message about how being an addict can turn people int someone they're not, someone they despise.
Well I would say I don't feel like that fits into gta very well as its sort of supposed to mock that kind of thing, this would be perfect for his character
I always considered Ryder the most annoying prick, i hated him, even more than Smoke. But now that i've seen this video i wanted him to never betray the Grove, he ain't that bad now
I really don't understand why they didn't just kill Ryder if they no longer had a VA for him. They could have made him walk up to the cops with a gun and yell and get gunned down by them when the Ballas ambushed Sweet, it would fit his character and it would be another reminder of how cold the streets are. It literally makes no sense for Ryder to be traitor, it was poorly done and it completely contradicts his entire personality up to that point. He beat up a teacher for wearing purple in high school, he ambushed a freaking army base just to give guns to the grove, why would he ever betray them over freaking crack money.
Ryder is addicted to PCP, and PCP causes lots of loyalty issues. I'm supprised he didn't backstab the Grove early on. His addiction is also why CJ calls him "Shermhead", apparently.
@@epiclolito8226 I always thought he was just smoking pot, but there is one mission cutscenes where he was "cooking" something when I think about it now. Is PCP meth?
i think to leave to Ryder as the good boy would be a great teaching about how look the true betrayers since Ryder treated bad to CJ he insulted him , and more , but he was a real Grove brother , he didn't hide anything , on the other hand Smoke treated good to CJ he praised him , but he hided something , so this teaching say us that sometimes a real friendship must stablish with acts not with words By the way (i'm learning english xD )
Good conclusion. I'll fix your sentence, just so you know where you went wrong with the English language :) "I think leaving Ryder as a true friend would be a great lesson on who your true friends are, and would shine light on the fact that anybody can betray you. Ryder was breaking CJ's balls, showed negative behavior, and insulted CJ most of the time, yet he did it out of friendship and brotherhood. He, after all, had nothing to hide, and didn't risk anything by being aggressive towawrds CJ. Meanwhile, Smoke treated CJ quite nicely, but it was all a cover-up. So, in conclusion, this lesson teaches us that real friendship must be established with acts, not with words.
Yeah and Ryder wasn't a bad guy really. He was jealous of CJ and acted bitter, but yeah I agree with you. Smoke seemed like a great guy, but was a snake. Ryder was a friend that was annoying at times, but honest
I can also say it giving me the creeps right, i can speak english almost fluently and i also understand almost everything but quotes like: "giving me the creeps" or "gave me chills" those are things i didn't learned and i can't find it on websites what's the meaning of those things :/
@@agentsmith9858 You may feel a chill down your spine and/or your hairs raising as a result of goosebumps, which comes from something creepy in response to danger.
this. a dream would be to get mc eiht on the team or even rockstar properly rereleasing gta with ryder stayig a homie. man. i feel if enough fans petition for this something might happen. like a patch would be awesome
@@juankalustian3122 maybe a gta san andreas remake with the the cut gta san andreas things and with our homie Ryder who never betray Grove Street Families !!! This going to be awsome !!! Sadly Rockstar probably won't do it :( That s sucks. Ryder is my favorite character in gta san andreas and my favorite rapper is Eazy-E, and i like MC Eiht to :)
Here's another reason: Ryder is pretty much mute once you're at "The Green Sabre" and just appears in three missions as an antagonist. To me it seems like they simply didn't know how to fit his character in with the rest of the group afterwards and keep him relevant after moving to the garage in San Fierro. I mean, where would he be in that situation? How would he react to CJ doing business while Sweet is still in Prison? Why would he tag along? What kind of role would he fill? He'd seem out of place in anything but the gang environment that you're in at the beginning of the game. They only had the choice to either make him go to prison with Sweet or have him be an enemy. I'd have preferred the prior option, to be honest, since Ryder only appears in three missions as an antagonist and isn't important in any of them. Even in the mission where he's killed, he was pretty much just tacked on top, since the original goal was likely to just kill T-Bone Mendez, who got an actual execution scene, unlike Ryder, who just goes "poof" and done like some random goon. Would have been so much better if Ryder had joined CJ, Sweet and Cesar to take back Los Santos, if only for his comments. But I suppose that it could have been for budget reasons or because of time constraints. Maybe they even completely forgot that he existed while they were coming up with the storyline after the betrayal by Smoke. And yes, CJ does feel remorse for killing Ryder, saying that "He was my homie.", but that line may have been originally intended for Smoke and it also lacks any proper context. If CJ felt so bad about killing him, why didn't he try to talk Ryder out of it or at least talk about reasons why Ryder did it during the missions? You'd think that you'd give a childhood friend a chance to explain himself before killing him. Well, now I wrote way more than intended.
Are we not gonna act like Cj and Ryder weren’t close before he came back? Ryder would most likely be helping CJ with anything more gang related. Hell, they could’ve made a mission with Ryder needing CJ’s help to steal from the Mexican gang in San Fierro. There’s plenty they could’ve done with Ryder.
One way they could've spun it was for Big Smoke to come to Ryder and say that CJ and Sweet were arrested. That way, once they return to Groove Street, Ryder would come in surprised and agree to help CJ and the gang out in stopping Big Smoke.
If Ryder was changed, he more than likely would have been in the same situation as Sweet. Once you go to San Fierro you practically leave everything behind. As how you did in the actual game. But once you come back, Ryder and Sweet probably be rollin with you again. Maybe even add in some Ryder missions like how they did with Sweet. Honestly, if they decided to ever remake GTA SA and add this in, it probably wouldn't even change much in the game.
Yeah I was honestly always fuckin confused by this. It made no damn sense that Ryder betrayed the Grove, and on top of that it's never really explained why he did it. A lot of wasted opportunities, I say.
It's been years since this game came out, been playing it since day 1, and still people manage to give me new perspectives into the story. Fucking amazing, sir!
More evidence is that from that point on, every line Ryder ever said was pre-recorded stock audio. Ryder didn't talk at all until pier 69, and his dialogue definitely felt restricted, no big speech or a huge argument before his death, just a few taunts and a very anti-climactic death.
I actually really liked Ryder and hoped he wouldn't die. The Grove Street Families would have been much more powerful if Ryder was the head of the gang instead of Sweet, think about it. Ryder is always trying to get better guns and more money for the Grove.
If he didn't betray the Grove, I can gaurantee he would've been my favourite character in the entire franchise. I always thought he was hilarious and was genuinely saddened when I saw that he was a traitor...
I think Rockstar wanted the player to suspect Ryder to be a traitor. In the end it would have been nice to see that Smoke affected Ryder to join CRASH.
Berke BİRİCİK yes but if it is true that Rockstart killed Ryder because they didn't need him anymore, they could have killed him in the mission "The Green Sabre" where Ryder is rolling with Sweet and was killed in the shootout like a hero...
I think something very cool would've been if Ryder stayed loyal and helped CJ and at almost the very end he had taken a bullet from smoke for CJ and died, this would've off been much more memorable and better for Ryder, and of course would've off antagonized smoke even more.
I heard his voice actor quitted in the mid stages of the game development because of the bad salary his voice actor has been receiving. Notice in the mission Pier 69 all of his voice lines are just from his previous lines in the game, he even said "c...can't stop me..." and sounds so broken so the player thought that in was meant to be like that. And if you chose to chase him with the boat he'll say "Ryder, N word!" or "I'm too intelligent for this shit!" And when you kill him he doesn't even have a proper death scene unlike Smoke who has a cutscene before dying. It sucks Ryder has to be an antagonist.
@@Hannahbanana0205 . They typically don't have problems with their voice actors if you count how many they have had over the years. RL that voiced Tommy had problems with Rockstar and later on Rockstar said that he was a nightmare to work with. He was arrogant and considered himself the embodiment of the game. That's why Rockstar said he was never approached again and why Tommy never makes any cameos in other games. Ryder's voice actor, MC Eight, wanted more money and they refused and so he quit. The voice actor for Niko wanted more money after the game was done and was selling out everywhere on both Ps3 and 360. He was paid $100,000 and he wanted more and they refused and so he said that he would never work with them again.
Deadsea1993 Gaming I actually know everything that you just said. I watched a yt video about it months ago after I posted my comment. I was just saying that somehow, Rockstar kinda ends up having a problem with their voice actor. Regardless of the reason, it kinda happens a lot to them. It's like a pattern. Either they hire a lot of shitty people, or the problem's with them. Personally I don't think we'll ever know since we don't really know what's happening between the actors and the management closed doors. All we know is there is a pattern to this matter. Lol
Well shit, this video made me sad. It's a shame they wasted Ryder like that. He was the funniest out of the homies, I always liked his missions the most because he was always saying hilarious shit. Would have been fun for him to say loyal and find him in a depression after going back to the Grove
A Google User yeah The Truth is annoying, and so is Cesar as far as I always thought. SA had no reason to shift its focus away from the black main characters I always thought.
I was so pissed that Ryder was just cast aside and treated like a bad sidekick while Smoke became the secondary antagonist. First time I played The Green Sabre mission I was so confused on why CJ never mentioned him NOT EVEN ONCE!! I'm glad you showed that in this video
I think it would've been interesting if Ryder was an ally throughout the entirety of the game. These are just some ideas that I came up with if that were the case. *WARNING* This is long! - During the mission "The Green Sabre", Ryder would've been with Sweet during the ambush at the Mulholland Intersection, helps CJ fend off the Ballas, and escapes on CJ's orders when the cops get close. - After CJ has Cesar and Kendl move out to the safehouse in Angel Pine to lay low, CJ calls Ryder to get him to do the same, but Ryder insists on staying in Grove Street to try to hold down the fort for the Families. - Ryder, in place of Cesar, calls CJ to inform him about Smoke and The Loco Syndicate's money and drug running, having heard it through his street connections. - Due to his continued drug use, Ryder's condition sounds gradually worse when he calls during certain parts of the game. CJ insists that he get clean, but Ryder is too stubborn and continuously assures CJ that he's fine. - Eventually, Ryder seemingly stops calling, and CJ grows concerned about his fate. - Later, when taking back Madd Dogg's mansion during "A Home in the Hills", Ryder is revealed to have been kidnapped by the occupying Vagos, half-dead from physical and drug abuse. After the mission is completed, Woozie calls to say he's having his men take Ryder to the hospital to get patched up and sober. - Ryder calls CJ after the end of "Riot" about how Tenpenny was acquitted. He also claims that he is recovering fast, and will be back on the streets soon to help GSF. - During the final mission "End of The Line," Ryder calls for an update on what's going on before CJ assaults Smoke's fortress. CJ insists that Ryder stay in the hospital to stay safe, but Ryder insists on knowing where CJ and Sweet are to back them up. Ryder then claims he's going to leave the hospital and is on his way to help. - After Smoke is killed and Tenpenny is about to kill CJ, Ryder shows up unexpectedly and saves CJ by shooting at Tenpenny. Tenpenny shoots back and Ryder is grazed, but both he and CJ manage to escape when the crack factory explodes. - CJ and Ryder take Sweet's Greenwood instead of the Feltzer he normally takes to pursue Tenpenny in the fire truck (so all three GSF members can fit in the car). Sweet is obviously surprised that Ryder is with CJ. Cesar and Kendl are also surprised when Ryder shows up after Tenpenny dies in the crash. - During the epilogue, Ryder returns to the hood completely sober, and begs to be Madd Dogg's personal bodyguard when he learns CJ is his manager.
Kind of sad that Ryder is such a wasted potential Character, and I´ts not only Ryder they´re many Charaters from Gta that have alot wasted potential like Big Bear from SA, a Character that was going to be important in the Beta but Rockstar decided to remove His missions, and Avery Carrington (His appearance from LCS) in which he has no dialogue nor new disign, and He gets killed for no apparent reason.
duude this is some *GENIUS* mission writing. it feels so real. it fits the way gta games work so perfectly. it especially fits in perfectly with the vibe and story of sa. i literally pictured every scene you described. fuck. how am i supposed to live now knowing what it couldve been like. somebody make a mod out of this. the only thing i disagree with is ryder begging madd dogg for anything. its just not ryder. that would be straight *BUSTA*
Let's say that Ryder was really useless to the story and Rockstar needed to get rid of him.... Even if that was TRUE, I would still prefer if he died in some epic or not so epic way - maybe they should have added some extra mission in which CJ and Ryder go to some big Ballas/Vagos house and they want to steal something, but the Ballas/Vagos suprise them and totally outnumber them, and then Ryder helps CJ to get out of the house, but is killed in the process. For me this would have been way better and logical, than Ryder being a traitor to the homies, to whom he was loyal to.
The Ryder betrayal was good in my opinion because it was totally unexpected. The Green Sabre was one of the greatest plot twists in video game history.
Ryder being harsh with CJ is evidence imo that he wasn't supposed to be a betrayer, if he really wanted to be low profile, he'd lay low and not tease him. Unless he's an amazing actor.
I always wondered why he barely spoke during the Pier mission or even barely mentioned by the characters. Honestly disappointed with what we got. Even the part where Cesar tells CJ that Ryder tried to bang his sister felt kinda forced in and unnatural to me. Not sure if Ryder's actor left for his own reasons or if it has something to do with Rockstar. Either way, sucks we didn't get to see his true storyline play out.
Love these analyses man. One thing I remember reading was that Ryder was originally going to be killed in the Ballas ambush in "The Green Sabre" before Rockstar decided to keep him around, which also confirms your point.
I think that it would be epic that in missions Pier 69 and End of the Line you had the option to kill or let live Ryder and Big Smoke, like some missions in GTA 4.
What I wanted to see is, during one of Ryder's missions, the song The "Hood Took Me Under" comes on and Ryder raps alongside MC Eiht! Then CJ says Nice rhyms! You sound just like him!
Wow, this video and getting to know that the voice actor of Ryder left Rockstar before game finish really makes me understand what they did to Ryder. Great video man, thanks for this :)
EDIT: I'm wrong. Apparently Ryder's voice actor, MC Eiht and Rockstar had some sort of a falling out in regards to his pay. So they shafted him and had to rewrite the plot. Still doesn't change the fact that they could've wrote him out of the story much better than they did. It's obvious. Ryder was never meant to be a traitor, but somebody late in the game's development thought it would be more compelling storywise if he was, even though it wouldn't make any sense. The scenes with Smoke and Ryder consorting with Tenpenny and Pulaski and how CJ doesn't even acknowledge Ryder? Ryder was never supposed to be there, it was probably a random Ballas model and then Ryder just got added in its place. Realizing they wrote themselves into a corner, Rockstar had to add an intro movie to explain Ryder's reasons for turning on Grove Street and even then it's still jarring that CJ barely has any issue with one of his best friends since high school betraying everything he stands for until the mission where he has to kill him. It's just a stupid plot twist for the sake of drama.
1:13 the only time Ryder was acknowledged was when he first walked through the door, then Carl said wtf? Smoke was behind him before he was visible. That’s literally the only time
What made me feel the most sad was that when the game ended it was just CJ and Sweet left as the GSF OGs, if ryder was with em it could be so much better.
I WANT PART II OF THIS!!! Rockstar & DJ Pooh script in the beginning of the game is real good... But... After the betrayel, the script starts getting confused and incomplete (like Ryder's faith) but the story still hard af tho. CJ & Ryder friendship looks more fun & close than CJ & Big Smoke, Big Smoke only talks some weird shit to CJ... I consider Ryder as a special character in the game paying homage to Eazy-E... Like rockstar was in the research room looking about references from 90's LA culture and then see a eazy e picture and go like ''hmmm, who this guy? he looks cool. let's put a character in the game based on him'' lol
Pretty solid analysis. I had the same feeling when I was playing the game 15 years ago. It was strange that CJ and his allies only talk about Smoke after the betrayal, but never mentioned Ryder.
Ryder was meant not to betray grove street but the character who was ryder's voice have a beef with rockstar but I still think they should not make ryder bad because i think big smoke should kill ryder or he should shoot ryder somewhere and ryder should have lost his voice like claude speed in gta 3
It should be possible since Rockstar and MC Eight had a deal music-wise in GTA V. MC Eight is more of a rapper than an actor. Even LL Cool J had very little acting roles.
Why only 1000 views? This video is so interesting, I think nobody done something like that! I really appreciate how you work, trying to reply to all the questions of this game.
Its KeV3nSGaMing Right.. :C I'd ask you something; Did you ever think to what happened to Johnny Sindacco or what his name is? (xD) When CJ robbed the Caligula, Johnny called him screaming he would get him killed, but then nothing happened. Could ya search something concerning it? It would be really interesting.. :O
Mr. King Bad homie.. When Madd Dogg toke me his rhyme book, I lost everything.. I've tried somethin' but nobody hear me nomore! Ya can't understand what Ganton became..
I was waiting for someone to do an analysis on Ryder. Because honestly, people focus way too much on Big Smoke and seem to forget about Ryder. I, too, believe that Ryder never was meant to be a traitor, but R* had no further use for his character, so they just decided to improvise his betrayal to give him a motivation in the story (which they failed miserably at of course). I mean first of all, the way that Ryder acts while he's with the gang shows that betraying the Grove is something he would never contemplate doing unless someone manipulates him. I mean there were no clues to Ryder's betrayal, unlike Big Smoke. And yes, Ryder did pick on CJ at times, but that's just how friends treat each other at times. There's nothing wrong with poking a little fun at your friends. Sonic and Knuckles do the same thing all the time. CJ and Ryder still had a lot of laughs and reminisced on their past. Plus CJ never hated Ryder. He was just sick of him being on that water. I would've liked it better had the asshole been the one on CJ's side the whole time while the "nicer guy" is the one who turns his back on the family. That would really add on to the irony of the story, which, personally, would make the storyline much better.
Sounds like an excuse when they say no use for his character. They could literally just use him during the GSF missions when you return from Las Venturas
I always felt like he wasnt meant to be a traitor, but that Rockstar changed it during development. (This video confirms it). I just cannot figure out why they did it. Were they really too lazy to flesh him out so they killed him off? Or was there a problem with the voice actor or something? Because after the last mission where he talks (I think its the one with the Grove Street fam meeting in the motel), he doenst really talk again in the game. In the green sabre and photo oppurtunity he doesnt speak and in the mission you kill him it sounds like they used old voiceclips.
Actually I always wondered why Ryder was dropped quickly as a character after the „Green Sabre“ Mission I mean CJ wasnt mentioning Ryder at all only in Fierro. I would‘ve liked it if they had Ryder put either in a Martyr role or he would also come in jail like Sweet and we needed to free them. Nonetheless Ryder and CJ had the best chemistry at the beginning of the game you could really tell these both were like bf‘s back in the day and Ryders Anger at CJ feels so genuine that I dont think Rockstar intended to make him an antagonist. If Ryder was involved in this whole green sabre shit he never woul have told CJ that it was a green sabre and also he wouldnt be so angry at him for abandoning the hood. A Shame it would’ve been interesting if Ryder wasn’t antagonist.
This is a really good video, good job KeV3ns :) And I think this can explain why some people really like Ryder so much, because he doesn't looks like a betrayer in this behavior unlike Smoke.
When I first watched this video it opened my eyes to how badly they wrote Ryder's character he went from a loyal GSF member with a character to a robot with re used dialogue from his missions
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 well yes, but I feel like there was a mistake. He was supposedly in San fierro and he drove the car there and stayed there before CJ shot him. In this scene he only had 2 lines which he already had said earlier in the game, almost as if they were running off pre recorded clips after he no longer worked for rockstar
Yeah definitely. I felt like missions with Ryder had a whole different depth to them. Like you were actually rolling with a friend. Smoke felt a bit detached from reality all the time, Sweet just gave you the big brother vibe, but Ryder felt like a homie, a friend. Like he was on the same level with CJ. Each time I've played through San Andreas I've just been so sad by the end of Ryder's last mission. Now that you deconstructed this, I can see it clearly and I've always wished I could get him back. I even attempt to jump onto his speedboat because I feel like it's more intense if I shoot him, instead of blowing up his boat. Sadly he does the same shit all NPCs do in San Andreas if you get on their boat, which is running off the boat to drown.
Rockstar games at it's finest....man . .damn .. Ryder was a like a trash for rockstar. In my opinion Ryder was the most interesting character from the game period
The thing is that Ryder was probably going to be a major character in the game with Caesar and CJ in San Fierro with building a garage cause after Green Sabre, Ryder would have realized from Smoke's betrayal that gang life was nonsense. But by the time Rockstar was making San Fierro missions, is when MC Eight wanted more money and then quit when he wasn't given it. Then they had to rewrite his story and add him in as a bad guy. That's the only way I can explain why he was added into the cutscene in Green Sabre and becomes an afterthought. He was an important Los Santos character and I believe Rockstar wanted him to help Ceasar, CJ, and The Truth.
one thing I want to mention: in Pier 69 the mission where you kill ryder you also kill t bone mendez, when in the game did you kill 2 antagonists at once? It seems that the mission makes perfectly sense untill you kill T Bone and then all of a sudden ryder was added into the mission they dont even have a cutscene or anything for his death he just dies, so it seems that his death wasnt supposed to be in this mission in the first place (or at all)

Krishna N Acharya I would’ve cried

Blake Procter they killed Ryder and TOOK HIS WATER
You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain
Yeah. He would have gained much respect from CJ and other homies from GSF too.
yeah i wish they did that too, like have him be bleeding out with sweet on the ground while sweet is struggling to keep him from dying while hes bleeding out aswell. and then when you wake up in the badlands tenpenny just gloats about how he died in the hospital or something, would have been a more fitting end for him and it would give tenpenny more reason to get under your skin and cj more reason to resent him. would have been super easy they could have made ryder not say a word in the mission anyway. then for the mission in san fierro when you have to kill him just replace him with toreno and remove that 5 second cutscene of you and caesar shooting him off the dock and just add more gang members in the area to make up for the mini "boss battle" you have with toreno before the cutscene
My view of Ryder completely changed. I like him way better now
PainfulHail13 4 I have always liked him the most, but when Ryder betrayed grove street lost my love for him. It would be nice if they remade the game and changed the storylines a bit so Ryder never betrayed GSF

@@twotonedrebel1891 another ending is Ryder does not die and gets helped by Grove ST homies by getting something he could fall on and CJ throws him there and when CJ gets out the building Sweet goes in the Firetruck and you chase the firetruck, Ryder later comes up in Sweets car and disrupts the firetrucks route which is a route to the airport and disrupts it to go to another route that passes through the bridge in grove st and all goes as normal but ryder is there and thus a happy happy ending
this adds more hate to Smoke and also making it a sadder story because of smoke and also because now CJ can prove to Ryder that he aint a busta

"I think leaving Ryder as a true friend would be a great lesson on who your true friends are, and would shine light on the fact that anybody can betray you. He, after all, had nothing to hide, and didn't risk anything by being aggressive towawrds CJ. Meanwhile, Smoke treated CJ quite nicely, but it was all a cover-up. @Synth Lord They just might do a remake. Modern Warfare has a remake, so why wouldn't GTA?
Tyrian3k well, its because the voice actor for ryder left due to being underpaid and as a result they had to get rid of ryder.
If Ryder's VA worked, they probably had a string of missions after he got crossed by Cesar and CJ
Actually,I'd prefer that alternate way when he's a good guy.
and it makes more sense too
Yeah I was honestly always fuckin confused by this. It made no damn sense that Ryder betrayed the Grove, and on top of that it's never really explained why he did it. A lot of wasted opportunities, I say.

So Ryder never betrayed the Family. It's all about Rocktar's politics. He was a different character but directors killed a legend.
@@MsMc111 you do get to see how smoke convinces ryder in the introduction

Its KeV3nSGaMing man why don't you just take it easy
Its KeV3nSGaMing actualy CJ mentioned him for once. It was a cutscene involving ceaser. Cesar said Ryder tried to bang Kendl (no proof)
Berke BİRİCİK yes but if it is true that Rockstart killed Ryder because they didn't need him anymore, they could have killed him in the mission "The Green Sabre" where Ryder is rolling with Sweet and was killed in the shootout like a hero...
So?

@john maziasz Nigga.

Or arrested like Sweet, but later on, Toreno helps CJ only with Sweet, because he is his brother, and Ryder would stay in prison (but still alive).
Or when tenpenny shoots cj Ryder takes the bullet for him or just doesn't die at all

After the betrayel, the script starts getting confused and incomplete (like Ryder's faith) but the story still hard af tho. Ryder was meant not to betray grove street but the character who was ryder's voice have a beef with rockstar but I still think they should not make ryder bad because i think big smoke should kill ryder or he should shoot ryder somewhere and ryder should have lost his voice like claude speed in gta 3

They could literally just use him during the GSF missions when you return from Las Venturas
waters228 91 you can't say who is doing too much of what when you are "waiting" like a dependant ass nigga
This is a really good video, good job KeV3ns :)
And I think this can explain why some people really like Ryder so much, because he doesn't looks like a betrayer in this behavior unlike Smoke.
Man a very emotional and brilliant video
When I first watched this video it opened my eyes to how badly they wrote Ryder's character he went from a loyal GSF member with a character to a robot with re used dialogue from his missions

Seeing CJ and Ryder at the end should give you that warm feeling between you and your close one. (Day one)
