2023 is going to be a year that changed SmartHomes forever. I love that every week - seemingly- a new Matter product comes out, many of which were never available to us Apple Home users.
I love how you used this light strip as a way to enhance your homage to your grandfather. This will be great as we come into Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays.
I would love to see a comparison of light strips from all the major companies to see which is best.
How does the new Govee stack up against the Vocolink you did in the kitchen a few years ago? Can these Govee be cut and reconnected to bridge gaps? Please keep the smart lighting videos coming; really enjoyed seeing the permanent outdoor lights.
Great review Shane. Very cool use of the product. Your studio is looking awesome!
Thanks Brad!
Quick question, my newly built home came wired with led strips everywhere, inside and under the cabinets, bathrooms, built-in shelves. They did a really good job and it looks nice. Problem is, they used single color led strips that are not dimmable. The strips connect to each other with these positive and negative terminal blocks and each room has a light switch to control them. All addressable rbg strips ive found use a 4pin connectors. Are there any rgb strips or dimmable non rgb strips on the market that can use these connectors? I can't imagine rewiring the whole house just to get rgb.
Nice! I have a Govee light strip on my TV and have been using a smart plug to turn it on with the TV, but the light color keeps resetting to default when it loses power. I’ll check this one out when I need a replacement. I would have gone with Nanoleaf if I had done more research back when I was looking for a lightstrip
Shane! I always enjoy your videos and learn something new. By the way, I installed the Nanoleaf light strip on my TV and got the Aqara doorbell. Works great for my situation.
Thanks for watching Melissa. I'm glad the videos have been helpful.
Thanks, I can't wait for Govee to release TV lights with Homekit and Matter support!
Can it be used under the cabinets? Multiple 9 or 12 inch sections.
What exterior cameras are you using now? Looking for some reliable HomeKit cameras
Cool! I’ve got the older version of the M1 and would love to have that Govee link where I can get the free matter conversion box.
IIRC, Govee is releasing a new matter home theater / TV light - the one with a camera and LED strip.
I have not heard about a Matter version of the tv backlight.
What monitor stand/riser is that? grovemade?
Shane, please tell your grandfather and all other vets in your family that we graciously thank them for their service! Absolutely love the flag!
Will do. Thank you!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@ShaneCreates Where did you get the flag? I'd like to display my coins that way, it looks amazing!
Does gove m1 matter strip support home assiant please test it and let me know if it works
Hey, I have a question. So this device can connect to google home natively and it also supports matter. I am wondering if there's any difference if I connect it via matter to google home or just directly connect to google home?
I have a number of Govee lights and humidity sensors. I have brought them into HomeKit through Homebridge. It words flawlessly through Homebridge. I have remodeled my kitchen. I am thinking Govee may be my cabinet light strips. Thanks for the video.
Great review
Where can i get the hexagonal ligths??
what is the maximum length the M1 can be extended to? I need 63'. Is it possible?
hi! what kind of case do you have in the video, please tell me
This is exciting!
That flag looks cool as with the lightstrip! I love the look of light strips, just wish I had more places to put them
Thanks Michael. I love lightstrips too. You can find lots of places to put them if you get a little creative. Here are some places I've put them: under/back of desk, under couches, under/behind dressers or other furniture, under bed or behind headboard, under/over cabinets, behind TVs.
How many inches apart are the cut marks?
Waterproof for outdoor?
Excellent, finally product are coming to Apple HomeKit, please keep updates on product that are matter support, I’m only waiting to see is roomba vacuum and the nest thermostat 2 will support matter one day,….. great video thanks for sharing…
Thanks for watching!
It states it is a RGBic, but actually it is RGBWic...the color circle doesn't include prime colors, but you can ask for it in voice control...
Anyone else having an issue where after you add the device to HomeKit, it just shows at ‘updating’ and ‘no response’???? Please help!!
Hi! What is the cool light on the wall behind you? It doesn’t look like nanoleaf since it’s an outline of shape not filled shape. Thx!
Nanoleaf Lines
So on the new M1 matter from Govee bro, you can only extend it up to 5 m? Because before I return my unopened boxes of the Gobi and one original, that can only extend a 10 m. So if the only upside to the M1 matter is, it can be controlled on Apple HomeKit, and it can’t be extended more than 10 m and please correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t know if it’s worth it right? Or am I missing something? I’m honestly asking because I need to figure out what to do.
That's correct. It can be extended to a max of 5m. If you do not need support for Matter, I don't see any need to upgrade or change your existing light strips.
Anyone know if you can get 45' angle for this?
its been a year where is the extension
Nice video. Thanks.
I was really excited about Matter b/c I thought that a unified smarthome protocol would lead to an influx of more affordable devices that would work with Homekit ( I pictured the inexpensive Google and Alexa smarthome stuff being able to work with HK using Matter). But the Matter-enabled devices that I've seen so far (including this one) are just as (if not more) expensive than the Homekit-only stuff. Since I only use Homekit and don't need my devices to work with other platforms, and since Matter doesn't give me access to more inexpensive devices, there really isn't any benefit there for me personally. I'll stick with HK only and Homebridge for now and hope that Matter prices come down. Thanks for the video.
Hey Carl, thanks for the comment. As with most things, I do think that prices will eventually come down once there are more matter devices available with more competition. Might take a while, but hopefully that'll be what happens. That's basically what we saw with HomeKit devices. I remember a time when you couldn't find a homekit lightstrip for under $80.
Is there a smart sprinkler system that supports matter?
Not that I know of currently.
I just purchased a bunch of Govee and one, but should I return them or is it possible to have something like you said to make them adaptable for Apple HomeKit? But also, is it a good idea to return them because will they be able to go longer than 10 m? On the new matter Kobe M1 I would appreciate any feedback man I’m in a rush to get this job done for a client
All Govee products, except for this new M1 Matter lightstrip, currently do not support HomeKit natively. You can use something like Homebridge or Hoobs to integrate non-HomeKit certified products into HomeKit as I've done with their outdoor lights.
The maximum extendable length for the new M1 Matter lightstrip is 5 meters.
Nice video, I'm glad to hear Govee is getting on board with matter. Is there a specific link for the replacement controller?
Thanks for watching Tom. Yes I’ll update all the links in the video description once the Govee webpages go live. Should be within the next 24 hours
Here is the link:

Hi , in 9:15 , there is nice watch under your monitor i like it . Can i find it in amazon ? If not where i can get it ? Thanks for your video
Those are the Yeelight cubes. Video here: ruclips.net/video/dFP4UmrtBIk/видео.html
So is this thing running off wifi? Or is matter the equivalent of thread speed? I have really slow internet (rural area).
Matter is not a protocol like wifi or thread. Matter is the application layer. This lightstrip connects via wifi.
@@ShaneCreates Ah ok. It seems like a great light strip option. I use Hue just because of the zigbee but I've been on the lookout for a cheaper option. It will be great when more and more products adopt non-wifi connection options.
How well does it work to have matter and non-matter in the home app? Do they work well together or not?
Yes they work well together. I have this Govee lightstrip integrated into a number of scenes with other non-matter accessories in the home app. No issues there.
Thanks, your videos help also
Can the effects be exposed in homekit via scenes like the onvis k1?
No, effects are not exposed to homekit unfortunately.
@@ShaneCreates thank you very much for your fast response and your hard quality work
@GreenArrow Good question. I'm not sure honestly if it's a limitation of Matter or Govee. So far, I have not seen any Matter lighting products that expose effects to homekit as scenes, so I'm thinking it may be a Matter limitation.
Matter over WiFi or Thread?
wifi
Mega Kudos to Govee, for offering the Trade-in upgrades. Hey SCAMOLEAF, take note of the essential customer loyalty from Govee.
$10 a foot, what are trying to be the most highly priced light strip next to Hues, too bad, a nonstarter!
Where’s the link to free matter controller upgrade?
I will update the links in the next 24 hours once everything goes live on their website.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks Shane!

@@ShaneCreates Awwww yea! Thanks man!
Honestly…..does this MATTER device works flawlessly with HomeKit? I ask because I purchased the NANOLEAF MATTER BULBS and I’m ready to stick a grenade on it that it’s so awful in operation with HomeKit.
Yes it has been reliable in HomeKit. What issues are you having with your Nanoleaf bulbs?
@@ShaneCreates I bought a set of 3, HomeKit and the native app are the only controls I have for it. Prior to these bulbs, I used VOCOlinc which I had no real issues and they were being controlled with a Phillips hue 4 button switch. I was using the same switch with Nanoleaf also before I toss them.
1. They’re not in sync, sometimes they all come on and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes just (2)comes on and when I check the native app, the thread icon turns to a Bluetooth icon.
2. Colors do not match what you choose in HomeKit or the native app. I assume thread does something to it and even causes the native app to not match color, you choose red…..and it turns blue and it’s random with other colors.
3) I haven’t opened the native app yet without seeing at least one of them offline.
4) Colors are not deep, bulbs like VOCOlinc are much vivid.

umm, what's your name if we're not new here? ;)

Joker: “Where does he get those wonderful toys?”
Only 6.56 feet and no way to extended. :(
They can be extended. 1M extensions sold separately geni.us/GoveeM1Ext (affiliate link)
@@ShaneCreates No 1m extension available in Canada :( But I just did find out that you may be able to buy the 16 feet version and use the controller from the Matter version.
I enjoy Apple Home Kit over the rest but Amazon ecosystem is just so much cheaper
It should improve with time however it’s really hard right now to find really anything Apple compatible.
It's a shame so many creators are being paid by the same companies they are reviewing. How is that ethical?
More of a product showcase than a review here. It’s a new product coming to market that I figured the audience would like to know more about.
Regardless, all opinions are my own. No one tells me what to say. I only share products and work with brands that I actually like, use, and recommend.
@@ShaneCreates The audience can't tell the difference between a showcase and a review. You can call it whenever you want so you can live with yourself, but at the end of the day, you're still being paid by the same companies you're reviewing. Plus, you need to disclose your sponsorship on all future videos you have that feature any of their products, even if you haven't been paid specifically for that video.
@@GreenArrow181 Not telling us would be an illegal issue, not an ethical issue. He only is telling disclosing it cause the FTC says so. He might now know that he has to disclose that on all videos with Govee products now, even though he's not especially paid for that video. This payment, just like free products, has an impact on all creators no matter what they say or, more importantly, what they don't say!
@@GreenArrow181 We need to hold creators to a higher standards cause if we don't companies will use and manipulate them into believing that they are helping the consumer but really the creator is just the company's back pocket.
Yeah I see what you mean, like it’s a new lightstrip that you’re looking for some unbiased opinions about but all your favourite RUclipsrs took the sponsorship deal from the manufacturer so you don’t really have another option 😕
I need 11.8 metres for full coverage of led strips and for only 6 metres for max package u can get of m1 light strip it’s too expensive it’s like £280 350usd 😂
When u can’t work or anything bc of age in uk it’s insane
This thing was immediately sold out
It's not available yet. It will be available May 22. I'll update the video description with links then.
Thumbs down for still calling Apple Home, homekit.
Really?? 🤨
Such helpful content always Shane! I love Apple HomeKit. 🙌🙌
Compared to hue lights these lights are over priced trash. Effects never seen to turn off, segments are randomly placed and don't match up with diagram, latency issues. Not to mention picking a single specific color is impressive as the color wheel is too touchy and has too much latency. Typical Chinese flea market Amazon garbage. Sent them back. Don't trust Govee or people with affiliate links who talk about how great the product is. For a set as small as this girl got, you could have got a 65ft generic with an IR remote and easier access to colors and patterns for $19.95. I own those as well. These on the other hand were just too expensive for 100ft. Skip these.
