Underrated bike that is well built and has a low pricetag. Works well on trails, fun and easy to ride. Much lighter than the dual sport version. Great for learning or if you just want a cheap to maintain fun trail bike. I added lights to mine so was able to rec reg it in Victoria where I live. Just drop the gearing a bit for the hills.
@@BrettKelley25 awesome….looking forward to watching. My son and I just rode in some foggy Virginia mountain weather…we need to get some lights as well!

I just got a call that my klx 230r arrived. I go pick it up tomorrow. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a bit older and wanted a bike to go riding with my son who is getting heavily into riding / racing. Thanks for the video.
Yes, con was probably the wrong word for me to use. It was just lower geared than I expected. Its actually perfect for what it was designed for, trails and hills. Thanks for watching.
As a Old Rider, who's ridden 55 years. I couldn't stand the high Idle programmed into the fuel injection system. I ordered the manual idle kit. See how that works. You notice the problem?
It's a well built bike/fun on trails/ EFI / long travel suspension/ electric start. Change the oil (Maxima or Kawi semi-synthetic 10w40 oils) every 15hrs (max) it will last a long time. -Ohio
Would this be a good bike for someone who has had some experience and female and 5’6? Or should I look at something more powerful? I would like to go on the track for fun no racing
@@BrettKelley25 how do you find the suspension? Im 6'2" and 210lbs (probably closer to 220/225 wjth gear and helmet). I was really looking at the honda crf250f but everyone says at my size/weight the suspension will be too soft and bottom out a lot on me...

Totally agree. I bought this one just to ride with Brett and follow him around. excellent bike. I added a light to mine also. Thanks for watching!
We've had the 2021 KLX 230r for over a year now - it has been 100% fun and 100% reliable. Love the bike! Thanks for posting!
It was my 1st dirt bike as a 47 year old riding "rookie" and I don't think I could have picked a better bike. Thanks for watching!

Good deal. I've really enjoyed this one.

Great reliable fun bike! We have 2 klx here, 2016 140L and 2021 230r, we love both!
We have a 140 also and picked up a 110L last week. Great bikes!
@@BrettKelley25 110l looks awesome as a pit bike for adult too!

Out of the 2 which would you recommend for my 2 sons first trail bikes? 140RL or 230RS? They are 5'5" 120lb and 5'9" 130lb.
Thanks
Really just let them sit on both and see which one fits the best. Of course the 230 is heavier but neither bike will be over powering to a new rider.
As a Old Rider, who's ridden 55 years. I couldn't stand the high Idle programmed into the fuel injection system. I ordered the manual idle kit. See how that works. You notice the problem?
No, I'm such a novice and inexperienced rider I don't know enough to tell the difference.
Any update? I noticed my bike was idling pretty hard it sounded. I didn't know it wasn't a manual idle.
Yep...KLX parts in Thailand. ABOUT $43 BUCKS. NOW I Dial what idle speed I want. Love it
i love my klx230r one of the best bikes i’ve ever had i eventually out grew it and got 23 kx250x but i’ll never sell my klx230r!
It really is a great bike
How's that 250x way more power?
Great review , I don’t mind 1st gear being tall , it will get used one day getting out of a steep situation.
You are correct.

Love the dog at the end.
She's a good dog.
Glad to find this video. I'm about your size and wondered how it would do. I want one to do the same thing. Just ride around with my son.
Glad it helped out. We have a few more videos about the bike, even one where he raced it in a harescramble. It is a great bike.
1st is short...it’s significantly lighter than the klx230 dual sport...I bet it’s noticeable...thanks for posting
I meant short. Thanks for clarifying. Glad you enjoyed the video.
What helmet is that? Goes perfectly with the bike.
Bell MX-9 MIPS Pro Circuit . It hits my big head perfect.

Good starter bike ? Been wanting to buy something.
Yes, I believe its the best starter bike, or the KLX300 if you want something a little bigger.
Sweet ride, get yourself some gloves and long sleeves though! ;-)
I do. I was just putting around the hood. Anything else Im in full gear.
@@BrettKelley25 Good to hear! 🙂

Just to ride he track for fun maybe. It may b a little tall for 5'6", just have o sit on one and see. But for fun, it has plenty of power.
@@BrettKelley25 thank you! I saw there is a klx230r s that’s an inch shorter I will probably look into since it’s the exact same in every other way

Its a tall bike. you need to try one out and see if it fits.
i just got one and notice the exhaust getting red hot in like 5 min is it normal does yours do that to
Not really anything I've noticed. Just normal hot.
You think that will be too big for me? I'm 5'9 and about 130lb
It might be a little tall but you really need to sit on one and try it out.
i am 5ft 8 i just got mine im at the point of my feet but i fell good on it its my first ever bike but yeah sit on one and you will see
how much do these cost second hand
It ranges. I've seen them from $2500 to 4K for 2020and up used. Older ones can be a little cheaper.
To bad they got shut down
