I have done over 7,300 miles on my '21 KLX230 and I think it is an absolutely amazing motorcycle. I have taken it to some rather difficult hill climbs, with even my 8 year old daughter sitting as a passenger, and it goes everywhere I want it to. Granted, you won't be doing many wheelies on this thing with stock gearing and it could be a bit lighter, but for the fact that it is an air cooled engine that can take quite the beating for under $6k, it is the best in its' class.
@@moto_morgan My buddy and I regularly do 8 to 13 hour rides that are usually between 100 and 200 miles, with a large portion of it being trail riding. We ride hard and fast. The best thing is, we ride at night. You can go pretty much anywhere at night. All the state parks and walking trails are fully open for riding at night and no one is going to bother to try to stop you.
@@AquaBeast2.1 i went down to a 13 tooth in the front. It's more manageable on the trails. Nothing really helps with wheelies. The engine is just to small. I mean, it's possible by not by engine power alone. You have to sit far back and pull up hard.
@@tomscheea8656 ty ty. Im just struggling because this is the first bike ive had thats had even that much power. im 110 pounds so i not sure if that affects the difficulty of the wheel coming up.
I just bought a 2023 in February. I've only been able to put 20 kilometers on it so far. Still pretty cold up here in ontario Canada. Weather should better about mid April. Iam impatiently waiting 🇨🇦
I just got mine. Got 44miles on it an now it's winter. But will ride on any day that its sunny or not raining, snowing. So exciting to ride for me. See you out there.
I love my 23 klx230. I keep watching reviews on other dual sport and adventure bikes but I’m honestly not sure if there is a better bike out there for me at any price. I would like to try a klx300 because of the extra power and better suspension but the potential down side is that it’s a bit bigger/wider and a little heavier. I ride a mixture of country paved roads (40-45mph), gravel roads, and trails and it’s perfect for that. The high end dual sports like KTM are taller, require frequent service and are much more trail oriented. I just don’t have access to that much pure trail riding without loading the bike in a truck and driving an hour or so.
@@amurray2222 I'm 140, 5"8, I'm looking to buy a 2022 special edition model. But scared it'll be too slow (like50-55) The dude I'm buying it from said he's 180 and it'll do 75 with him on it. Does that sound bout right?
@@keepoffmyherb420 I have heard that. The 2023 klx 230s which is what I have is rated to hit 77mph. You will definitely get atleast 65 out of any model minimum.
Hey morgan, I have the same bike 2023 230s. Is it possible for you to pop a wheelie at all? This bike is one of my firsts, im 16 and I want to learn how to wheelie. What do you recommend?
Im about to get a 2022 klx230 special edition in the red color, i went and test drove it last week and i cruised with it at 75 no problem 👍👍 i topped out at 81 on it, im 5"8 142
im looking to get one of these or the SM version for commuting. im 5'10" and about 175ish pounds, the road id be driving on is about 55-60mph max. id be driving about 30 miles a day would i be better of getting the 300 or would this be plenty enough for me?
probably best if you go for the 300. your height and weight wont be a problem for either bike, but the 230 is uncomfortable to go 55mph for longer periods of time.
There have been zero problems with the bike. It is perfect for the trail and learning. The only downside it that it is not the fastest! But that wasn't what it was made to do...
Awesome. Good to know. I'm bouncing between this and the Honda Grom. The grom is significantly cheaper and has the reputation of reliability. This bike seems pretty nice itself.
if you want to downsize and stick with duel sports this is a good option cause it it is lighter and shorter than other duel sports so it would definitely feel more playful and like a toy. however this doesn't have a lot of power but that is kind of the charm of this bike, you can go everywhere full throttle and still be going the speed limit. This is currently the smallest bike I have, but I also have a 701, FZ09, and KLR. But this bike is still so fun to come back to because of how playful and not so serious it is.
@@moto_morgan The other attraction is I can sell my DRZ and have enough lute left over to buy the KLX230 used AND a used CRF110 for my son....keep us on the trail as he has outgrown his CRF50.

I would also suggest the 300sm. Its slightly lower but it still has more power!

65 with the way i ride, 70 if you are nice to it
Whats better the klx230 or the xt250 from Yamaha
I would put the both in the same spot, but maybe the 250 for that little extra power

75ish, but it likes doing 55mph
