You are very good at talking while riding and giving commentary on the bike. Probably the best I've seen on RUclips. Most people are reading off notes and you are doing it off your head all while riding various terrain. Amazing job!
Great video. I'm brand new to the sport and motorcycles in general. I looked at all different manufacturer options for trail bikes, and while everyone makes solid options, I went for a '22 KLX 230R. The only upgrades I had to do right away were bigger foot pegs and a grippier seat cover.
Just bought mine a few weeks ago and this is a great trail bike I must say. Not too fast and not too slow great mid range power… I did feel the same way about the shifting…

I have both bikes, and they are quite different. Depends on what you're using it for. I use my 230 as a "work bike" maintaining and working on trails at my local enduro club, stopping and starting all the time hanging ribbon and stapling arrows etc. It gets beat up. Has been fantastic so far. Very tractable power. The 300 is more like an in-between with a play bike/race bike, more like a high-performance play bike. My actual race bike is a Husqvarna TE300. With all this being said, I'm probably selling the KLX300 soon. The 230 fits my purposes. Both are great bikes, just depends on what type of riding you will be doing.
If you want a bike that has little more ground clearance same wheels and a bit lower seat height (34 inch) 15kg lighter check out KLX 140R F, sure it has less power but install a 12tooth and there is not many places you cant go unless its desert or really big hills straight up.
I realize this is old, but do you still do reviews? I just like how you explain exactly what the bike is doing, and why, vs afterthoughts comparing it to an Apples to oranges bike. Anyway, still waiting for my 2024 KLX 230 dual sport to come in that I ordered 2 months ago, so I watched your video to see what you thought of the motor, and which, all things considered, seems pretty promising to me.
Wonder how the experience would be for a 200 pound 6 foot rider? You mentioned this bike out of the box is a little stiff on suspension and a little wider, so maybe it's perfect for a bigger guy? I'm comin from 20 years on an XR400R and getting back into riding, albeit a little more laid back this time around...

I’m 6’ 1” and 230 pounds. Losing weight. I sat on the 230. For perfect. Tried the 300…could barely get on and off. Couldn’t believe how tall it is. Lol.
I had the 300r same height as you, about 209 lbs at the time. I’m 180 now, but that bike was a plodding, heavy pig. I’m getting the 230r now, after a brief stop with a crf250r. Just didn’t suit my needs. Looking for a more even keeled trail bike that is maneuverable. Hoping the 230 gets me there.
Great review. I am looking at the KLX230R vs KLX300R. I am looking to learn some better dirt skills, get back to basics. Learn pivot turns, skid turns, and slow skills. I do like the lower weight of the 230R. I currently have a dr650 that I've been using at OHV's, however I am beating it up. Would like to have a dirt bike for the days I want to exclusively ride dirt. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

We have both in the family. Get the 230r if you want a bike you won’t out grow. Both amazing. The nice thing is the klx140 only weighs 118lb vs 230r 250lb
I have this bike. I made a review here of my experience after having the bike for a few weeks. ruclips.net/video/XtKtpuVVC2U/видео.html. It's one major flaw is the heat of the header pipe when riding around in 1st or 2nd gear. It glows red-hot (due to the emissions compliance tuning) and any leaves that land on the pipe will catch fire. I'm in Washington State, so there are lots of leaves and trail debris to get caught on the pipe, especially in autumn when the trees drop all their leaves.
Yess your so right..i just got this bike a couple months ago first ride was at night everybody around me freaked out because the header was glowing so red..yea i put a new full system pro circuit exhaust on it so fast & went away

I just bought this bike and you're spot on about the shifter. Vague shifting, you have to be very deliberate with the left foot.

I own a klx230r 2021 it is exactly how he says it is. Very easy to ride. The 300 is supposed to be the same while having just a little bit more power.
