Tracy what great progress you have made. A lot of people think decluttering is to become a minimalist and that is just not true for everyone. Decluttering to me is to get my house to where I am happy with it and I can manage the contents. Keep on going. April you are so good at helping people and encouraging them without being judgmental about what they want to keep. A good example to me is the puffy coats. Tracy does have quite a few but now that she has them in one spot and can see what she has it definitely will help stop buying more. Love the video.

I am very minimal with my clothes, but I love this series with Tracy. She has decluttered a fair chunk of her stuff, and if she loves the rest of it and wants to keep it then that's great. It's realistic that part of 'making space' is trying to wrangle and organise collections like this so the person involved can enjoy what they have and not buy duplicates. I'm sure it will be beneficial to Tracy and will 'make space' in her mind as well as her home.

I’m only 5 minutes in so fingers crossed!!!

    • @pk5194
      @pk5194 3 месяца назад +9

To be honest, last episodes with Dani were quite boring, she is easy to let go clothes (esp it is easy if they simply doesn't fit her size anymore) but didn't get rid of much in the kitchen (stuff he likes). This is the same type of hoarding, just different category of things. Tracy wears her stuff but does Dani use all her Starbucks mug collection? I doubt it. I personally would suffocate and never cook in the cluttered (even after decluttering) kitchen like hers :(
And also, I think it is much worse to hold things and never use it, eg like makeup collection they throw away with Dani. Wasted money, wasted product, took away from someone who could use and enjoy it. But we all have our lessons.
It's good that she came to her senses now with April, but if you have looked at Dani before, you might criticize just the same.
So let's not judge Tracey too hard, it is just the beginning of her journey, we never know how she will be in few years. Both ladies are at different points of their awareness, and kudos to April to show both ways!

@smarterthanawaffle Yes doing laundry by hand is hard work if you are dealing with more than a couple of light weight items. My late mother once said to me that the washing machine was the best liberator for women! That maybe sounds sexist but even now every survey I've ever heard of says the majority of women do more than 50% of the housework. My mother made that statement when she still used a basic twin tub machine, it took her a while to adjust to the idea of getting a fully automatic washing machine. Here in the UK twin tub washing machines were still not uncommon in the eighties.
I hope that you are able to aquire a washing machine (even a used one) in the foreseeable. Good luck.🍀

April has helped her, but feel this episode is enabling her rather than pushing her to say you need to get rid of anything that doesn’t fit in this storage system. Wasting her time and money stuff-shuffling. So heartbreaking. Maybe if she watches her series Tracy will see it for herself. Six empty bins is huge! The labels should help the housekeeper a lot. They really will make it easy to put things in the right place. Switching out seasonally is allowing Tracy to see all her options and enjoy her wardrobe. Hope she takes the time to explain the system to the woman helping her.

It's a good start. It's progress. Honestly though, no one person can maintain the organization of this many clothing items. She like many of us will have to continue to make decluttering passes until it's a volume that she can get close to managing. I'm not where I want to be with it either and so I say this with compassion.

They just need someone to come in and tidy up from time to time, so they can more easily find what they already have. Labeling everything helps a bunch. I use a Sharpie marker on Painter's tape. It is so easy, accessible and super easy to change as the process evolves!!

It looks like something I would wear honestly but I care nothing about ‘fashion’ . I find it odd that she chose to wear that outfit when she is so attached to ‘fashionable clothes’ .I think I might have 5% of the clothes she has and I have way too many clothes.I am working on decluttering myself ,the areas that I have trimmed down have been very freeing.

Tracy is so sweet, and truly loves her clothes! I hope she can keep it under control with your help, April. I’m kinda glad I got over my shopping for clothes habit. It wasn’t an addiction, but going shopping just to shop is a waste of my time and money. It’s taken MANY years, but now I buy what I need not just what I want. The closet system was a game changer, and $$$ well spent.

I see a lot of myself reflected in Tracy. I am definitely on the spectrum of "clothes attachment" and love to express my creativity through funky clothes, however, at age 67 and being overweight my options are limited! lol!
Creative minds are cursed/blessed with an abundance of child like enthusiasm for color and unique styles! The world needs all the Tracy's....as well as the April's to harness us in once in a while.
I personally, have implemented the "container" method. Telling myself that the universe has limited my space for a reason...gently revealing to me where my personality has a tendency to lead me to overload and overwhelm.
I totally get you Tracy...just keep plugging away and you will experience the freedom of less stuff to manage. Our creative brains were never meant to handle so much inventory! ❤❤❤
    * I think labels on the outside of the closet doors would also be a big help, especially when you are in the beginning phase of learning a new approach to being organized. The house keeper would appreciate it as well.

I like Tracey's joy and personality, but, like many other commenters, this series is just unwatchable. Im starting to wonder if it is April's editing at times. I cant follow the conversation between April and Tracey and am confused about what is happening. The 2 ladies speak over each other and cut each other off. Tracey is a teacher (I think?) but in this whole video she doesnt form and speak a regular sentence. I know that April only has so much time, but owing to Tracey's ADHD, I wonder if a slower approach to the videos might be better. I think that in Dani's case, she was ready to declutter mentally. Tracey lacks understanding of her situation and is doing it because her boyfriend wants her to. I feel that Tracey's speech reflects that she is rushed and not mentally prepared. Adhd is a neurotype not a personality type, it doesnt mean the person is always hyper. Sometimes people with adhd take longer and need to go slower.
Of course I dont know her, but as a therapist that has met many lovely adhd people, I feel like Tracey is stressed and needs more time and more space to discuss the emotional side (privately not on camera).
The comments I have noticed about her adhd being "untreated" are a little ignorant. Adhd isnt an illness, it's to do with the brain structure. Tracey cant change her brain, and also, there will be many benefits especially in her artisic career. What people should respect is that this is Tracey AFTER some treatment, and medication doesnt turn her into a neurotypical. This is her level of functioning, this is her capacity.
Shaming comments about other women needing the clothes are also going to be unhelpful... many just dont understand the huge burden of shame already carried by the average adhd person.
Slow down and dont panic Tracey, you dont have to do this the same way as everyone else. You will get there.

I realize that April has helped Tracy declutter quite a bit, but honestly, with all her closets, if she's still having trouble putting things back, then that's a sign she still has more clothes than she has room for.
Going forward, sorting everything into categories should help her a great deal to get even more decluttered. If she can see at a glance all of her x category right in front of her, then she doesn't have to guess if she has enough or too much x. It should be obvious, and she can take action on one category at a time.
Adding that it's hard for me to relate to the "need" to find room for this much clothes. Everything I and my husband have, together, would easily fit into just one of the closet units Tracy has.

I think that people saw too many minimalistic wardrobes under the decluttering topic and have problems to accept that maximalist exist too!? 😮
Tracy is still ja maximalist and people have to accept that a maximalist is a maximalist and NOT a minimalist!
Yes, she has too many clothes to wear them in one year but if she wears them in 2-3 years it's also okay! The main point is, that her clothes make her happy, she knows were everything is now and how to keep it organised! 😊 Decluttering is a long process for maximalists, collectors and especially for people with shopping addiction as a coping mechanism for mental issues. I now what I'm talking about... Let's say: I have almost the same amount of things and clothes like Tracy or even more! 😅 I watch decluttering videos every day, organise every day and try to fix my mental issues to be able to declutter. It took me TEN YEARS to overcome my shopping addiction, my chaos and be able to declutter things. Tracy is doing great progress in a few weeks / months!! 😮 Fun fact: I'm doing the "the big unhoard project" by myself for the last 5 years!! 😂😂😂 It was very important and helpful for my brain and mental health. Give her time and respect please, she deserves it! She asked April for help because she needed her and that's fine and the reason for April videos! 😮
Please don't force normal non-perfect people with hording issues to be the same as the perfect looking instagram minimalism models. Why? Because they are NOT the same! Minimalism is not the same as maximalism and minimalists without issues are not the same as normal people with issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Where dose she get the money to buy all of this stuff? especially all of the clothing? she would be a millionaire on all the money she's spent on her stuff.

I saw Tracey putting the empty coat hangers back in amongst the clothes -- I personally struggle with this because when I go to put something away it is just an extra task to dig through and find the hanger - now I keep all empties at one side of my cupboard and it really helps :)

she looks happy but is she really happy? my suggestion is now, since everything is in its place, in one place, categorised nicely, please take some time to go through each category one by one and declutter/donate at least half of them. it may take a year or two, but that's okay. no rush.
putting things under the bed is not good feng shui. since you have a big closet, there should be no reason to use spaces under the bed. no good energy flow in a crowded home. i pray everything goes smoothly for you.

Love your series! Much progress being made. I too love clothes..and yarn..and fabric.. and books..and...lol. getting them organized after decluttering is a huge help. You are so good at helping her. I am in process of downsizing after being in my home 41 years. It's a work in progress for sure. I have given my girls things and donated lots. Don't want to leave my girls a mess to go through. We are all different and have different interests and attachments to our stuff. I know the season of life I am in that I am changing my perspective on things. Thatsock pile is amazing! I once years ago hada sock matching party with a friend. We had her children and mine helping..had snacks and celebrated wen done. It amazes me how mismatches turn up! 😊😂❤

In the nicest possible way, she's a sweet lady, but it looks like as soon as you leave, it fills right back up. And again, very little got donated. How often is she wearing all the things she says she wears? If its once a year & you're out of room, out it goes.

I was wondering about the great unhoard, was it all just shuffled elsewhere, and not truly declutered? ❤ Is she planning to unhoard the great unhoard? So many questions...❤ I have decluttered 60-70% of my home, basement and garage. It is so free'-ing. Prayers to keep going!!😊

This series is about organizing the clutter more than decluttering

It's tough getting rid of your stuff!! It was hard for me to let go of my stuff but I had no choice. My husband has way too much stuff and refuses to let anything go. My husband doesn't shred his papers either. We just moved into a small house that only has three yes three very small closets. There's no other storage in the house. So I had to downsize my belongings because my home looked very crowded and messy. I even shredded a lot of my papers. I donated a lot of clothes that I wasn't wearing or didn't fit right. It wasn't easy. Now I'm planning on moving so downsizing has helped me to prepare for this future move.
Tracey will donate more of her stuff when she's ready. At least she is organizing everything so it's easier for her to find her belongings.
When you said "How do you feel about the amount of space in your closet?" Tracey laughed.
