Why REQ PACKS are BAD for Halo and should be absent in FUTURE INSTALLMENTS

  • My views on the controversial Req system introduced in Halo 5. I take a different approach to criticizing it and hopefully it makes sense and you enjoyed it!
    A couple points I'd like to make. Firstly when I refer to the "Req System", I'm talking about the reward structure as a whole and not the Warzone system specifically. I also say that the Req system is "balanced". That statement is contested and an opinion in it of itself and I actually dont even necessarily agree with the statement myself. But for the sake of my critique I elected to accept the statement as a theoretical truth and believed that even if it was the case it would still be a poor system.
    My idea was to both dismantle the various defenses for the system and then explain why it doesn't serve its intended purpose. That purpose being to reward players.
    If you like my stuff share it and spread the word! Thanks all!

    I remember playing halo 3 with a two yanks and a European and trying to complete the vid master challenge for 4 ghosts legendary iron. The game was in slow motion the whole time for us, due to the area variation, but it was so fuckin awesome and fun doing it and finishing it. I was hoping mcc could at least have the same prerequisites or some new ones for halo 2A. But it's a shame since they were/are too lazy to put any customisation in; even with the awesome foundation that halo reach put in.

    The trailer for the Cartographer's Gift said (in small text at the very bottom of the screen for a very short time) that the DLC will be free until July of next year. I deduce that starting from July, the DLC (which the user will pay for) will be content that wasn't cut out of the launch just to tell us the DLC is free.

    You're doing God's work, Favyn.
    There's no reason that both systems can't coexist, either. REQs could be tied specifically to Warzone consumables, while armor and other aesthetics could be fixed to an achievement system.
    But of course, that wouldn't entice people to splurge and spend money on REQs, which is why the REQ system exists.

What do you think about a "what we would do with Halo 6" video? It could be a real catch-all about our collective ideas on what's right and wrong in the franchise, and could explain game-by-game what was good and what was bad. It would be a big undertaking, though.

    This is a different topic, but the armor customization, is crap. You only have three categories to detail is. I can't match warrior legs chest piece and forearms with cypher shoulders and nightfall waist. I would actually look decent. Three categories removes so much depth from the customization. Aside from that, most of the futuristic looking armor is nice to have, but it looks like crap. They got it right with halo reach. The armor looked good, it made you look like what a spartan SHOULD LOOK LIKE. The attachments actually looked useful and badass, and noob me was googling use for inclement weather. It looked rough but not too rough. It just looked actually GOOD. In reach I looked like a more badass black hulk. Now all pieces make me look stupid and puny. Take cypher chest piece for example. The only use I could think for it is getting in a crash and puncturing your skull with that huge spike, of needing to pick something off the ground and not seeing it. The shoulders look good, but the rest of it just looks like a liability. These problems are especially true with all of the other armor pieces. There is always something you don't like, that you can't fix, because there aren't enough options. Even if they had 1000000000 different sets it can't give you proper customization. And the unlock system tied to req packs make the one in 80 armor pieces look half decent even worse.

    • @Mega-Brick
      @Mega-Brick 8 лет назад

      +Alex Gluch (ShadowRanger) The armor in Reach looked right _for_ Reach. Rugged, mid-war, dirty, deep-in-the-battlefield.
      But it would make no sense and not fit with Halo 5 because it's a new MJOLNIR program with much better technology and designs, plus they don't have to design it for _war_ , allowing creative freedom.

    • @shadowranger937
      @shadowranger937 8 лет назад +1

      Rhas 'Churol
      Military armor not designed for war is just stupid.

    • @Mega-Brick
      @Mega-Brick 8 лет назад

      Alex Gluch
      It's designed for functionality and basic combat. It's capable in war, but they certainly don't expect to be in a war as taxing as the human-covenant war again.
      They don't _need_ to design it for _pure war_ . That's just unnecessary.
      Besides, without the threat of annihilation over their heads, they've made several technological advancements that make pure-cold efficiency obsolete.

    the microtransactions still keep people away from Halo 5 though. it pretty much is "do I want to grind 350+ hours to get legendary perma reqs or do I want to throw money at it?" also 115 of those armor pieces are merely different color patterns. if microtransactions are gonna stay they should be micro and only be for weapon skins.
    anyway I love your idea for unlocking armor and I want it in every future Halo game

      also I remember the avatar system from Forged Alliance Forever (community supported lobby for Supreme Commander Forged Alliance). the avatars were right by your name whenever you sent a message in the chat lobby and right by your name on the list and were ultimately pointless. although it meant something to most people. you could permanently keep avatars if you participated in and/or won tournaments, being a moderator, or donating money to keep the server going. sure it was a small community and you could tell who most of the players were by their avatars but it still meant something to earn one or have one of the mods (who is no longer a mod because he cut down on his playtime) give you the strategic facepalm avatar. it felt nice to log in and have an avatar by your name.

      i feel the exact same way and I just wanted to say that I don't think they are going to get rid of something like the req system or the system itself but could there be both? like were only warzone weapons can be obtained through packs and the rest is earnable by achieving something?

  • @josh11735
    @josh11735 8 лет назад +6

    For the most part I agree with your general sentiment here. Receiving armor from REQ packs just doesn't feel as rewarding as setting a goal for yourself and working with others to achieve it. (Although, I think you didn't give enough credit to Halos 4 and 5 since they both have a task-based system in place for select items through *commendations*; in Halo 4 you unlocked armor skins and Halo 5 has emblems).
    I think a Halo unlock system needs a bit of everything to provide the most incentive to all players. There should be a bare bones level-based unlock system to promote playing the game in long term (the hope that I'll one day get Haunting helmet it Reach still gets me to play), commendation-based unlocks can demonstrate mastery in particular parts of the sandbox, achievement-based unlocks reward gamerscore completionists (as well as anyone who likes a good challenge), rank-based unlocks to reward people who are skilled at the game, and (going off what you suggested) maybe even a new challenge system that not only includes daily/weekly/monthly/custom challenges that award exp, but also a perma-challenge system that includes tons of little challenges (like the ones you suggested) which award special armor pieces. This way, not even single little task needs to be an achievement.
    Finally, I think the REQ system could remain if they only restricted it to Warzone weaponry (granted they expand/improve the mode in the future).
    Anyway, great explanation. :)

    +Favyn I feel the same. I always get so pist when I see some guy wearing full Nightfall, not because of him, but because he didn't have to earn it. And really a req system is less fair than an achievement system because with an achievement system because you have to achieve it, therefore that player has to get better at Halo, making playing with him more fun. And if you saw someone with lower level armor you know "this guy is just a casual gamer, or he just started"

    I don't like REQs but just as you mentioned regarding the accomplishment-related armor set system at 12:20, REQs also foster community interaction in their own way through RUclips with the almighty "pack opening" videos. RUclipsrs advertise for it in their videos, directly or indirectly inciting their viewers to do the same.
    In the end, I just hope Halo won't become like FIFA where more and more people are now buying their way to the top online divisions. They buy packs or coins with real money so that they can get the best players of the game in their team. I value merit more than dumb luck or quick progression.

I thought it was because I was scared of change, but I think you've hit the nail on the head. Good reward systems make a difference. It's probably an underlining factor in why Halo 3 was such a big game, because it had developers behind it to bring people together. Great Video.

    While I do agree with much of this, Halo isn't an RPG so I believe that there's no need for 343 to put time in crazy ways to get armor. Armor I feel is better just being a simple "play then buy". I guess it does add a bit of value to armor when there's a challenge. With weapons though, I believe that expendable warzone power weapons should be acquired through short, but a bit difficult challenges such as a killing spree with a sniper. That's what I think though

    3 had the best armor customization system. not only were the designs simple enough that in the heat of combat most people could tell what you were sporting, but you were literally wearing your achievements and your skill as a player when you joined a multiplayer match. Recently in Halo 3 I unlocked the legendary Katana chestpiece (which I personally didn't care much for), the Security helmet, and the Rogue helmet. Thinking about it as I'm writing it, armor is the whole reason I'm the kind of player I am. I looked up all the different armor pieces in Halo 3 and how to unlock them. Once I knew how, I labeled a select few as my goals. I began looking for ways to get by certain missions on Legendary. But the thing is, most guides took you through every encounter the mission through at you the safe and sure way. I didn't buy this game to sit in a corner and peek out only to land two shots on a Brute. I found out about speedrunning, and I followed Nak3d Eli's guides for the sake of earning one of the most rare helmets in the game. By the time I was through with that, I became inspired to make my own Legendary guides (when I have the equipment) because many speedrunning tricks, as amazing as they sound, are too difficult for the average player. I became so excited about it that I started sharing it with a couple people. They encouraged me to keep going and I tried to complete Floodgate on Legendary without dying. In the process, I accidentally got within two minutes of the world record, and I shared that too. After this a random invited me to a Legendary game where I showed him some tricks. We played some multiplayer and I eventually earned the three armor pieces 40 miles above. Fast forward to 2 days ago. I beat Sierra 117 on Mythic difficulty (LASO) and it got me excited to share my achievements, so I started to piece together tricks and strategies in all the Halo games. All of that led to loads of fun with me and my friends and even just random people I met. What does that have to do with achievement based armor unlock system? Next to nothing, but that's why it's so much better than the alternative, because I saw an armor piece I wanted, I found out how to get it, and I had so much fun getting it that I got more involved with the Halo community. All of that, opposed to completing 5 games in Warzone, buying a pack, opening it, getting something amazing, recording my reaction, BOOM done. I'm fairly sure that unlocks aren't designed for interaction between people (it depends), but the memories are what make it so special. All because of a cosmetic item in a video game. I'm so passionate about my opinion that I typed this with a phone. No keypoard, and I improvised it all. Hope you found this entertaining, because it legitimately took nearly 20 minutes to type it all. On a phone. k bye

    I agree 100% with this video, I already agreed with your reward concept, but I never thought about community impact. I do have find memories of playing Halo 3 and ODST and earning all the vidmasters and hopping into Halo 3 to equip the armor. 343 finally added one set of armor you actually earn in H5, but it's a shallow gesture as they also added a "limited time" $5.99 vehicle req pack.

    I'm so incredibly sad.
    When Halo 4 released, a buddy and me played CTF for 2,5 months in order to unlock the Vanguard armor set + unique emblem. We both unlocked the armor at the same time, since we synced our progress (Completing the CTF Commendations)
    We got an incredible amount of player reaction online when people saw 2 Vanguard armors + their emblems between all the players in the lobby. People sent me messages 'How do you get that armor?'
    We still rock that armor today. Since February 2013 I haven't changed my armor in Halo 4. It's the most impactful achievement I've had in my gaming history.
    That's why I'm sad; Halo 5 just pissed on those memories and accomplishments.

    The best part about Halo 3's armor system is that when I look at a piece of armor from Halo 3, I remember the achievement attached to it, as well as my own moment when I completed the achivement to get the armor.

    Definitely agree here. It was a lot more satisfying to earn helioskrill by beating MCC campaigns on legendary than to get lucky in a req pack. I like the req packs for the warzone weapons, vehicles, power ups, and perks, but they shouldn't be there for the permanent stuff.

    Amazing video man. I agree with each and every point you made. I love the concept of having to EARN Armor. To have that feeling, whatever it is, proud, relieved, excited, whatever, that you earned that armor piece. And the fact that it means something - not just a roll of the dice that gives you a cool piece of armor with an empty connection to it. Once again, I love the points you made - and I miss that feeling and the communities interaction with one another. I truly hope 343 is in some way impacted by your videos and maybe one day we can see this integration of these concepts again.

    This has great points. I'm on the fence here, but Halo 5 has gear unlocks tied to Halo Master Chief Collection and Halo Channel... As a halo veteran I've enjoyed all the games and unlocks but once I unlocked Hayabusa and Katana back in 07'-08' lost interest in Halo 3 MP. Reach had crazy high unlocks and I couldn't get into the game enough to unlock all of it.

    I think it should be like that if you want to unlock the Nornfang you have to complete challenges. But the normal Sniper Rifle should be unlockable by opening req packs. With armors or other stuff should be like that commom and uncommon items should be unlockable in req packs but rare, ultra rare and legendary should be unlockable by completing challenges.

Halo is a franchise, we need to expect more, as they earn more money to put forth towards the next game. Fanboys need to learn this, expect a good game with story being the focus, like Halo 2 and 3. A good multiplayer is minuscule next to a good story

    Man, this is such a good video. I REALLY hope 343 sees this. I kind of like the req system, but I don't think the armor should be in it. I am fine with it spawning weapons for stuff like Warzone. I've always wanted armors and cosmetic pieces to be something you had to unlock. I hate how you just casually unlock something through the req system.

  • @pizzagrenade
    @pizzagrenade 8 лет назад

    I 100 percent agree with you. I remember earning my Hyabusa chest piece by getting all of the Halo 3 achievements. I remember being proud of myself. I remember feeling like I did something, and since then, in halo, I haven't felt that way. But, I don't necessarily think the Req System should go away. Hear me out.
    The Req system could be redesigned specifically around Warzone. It's main and original intent. It can reward weapons that will be redeemable in that game mode by completing challenges and matches and earning them for future matches. Remove armor from the Req Packs entirely and just make them about Warzone. They can cost points earned in warzone, you can be rewarded them but they shouldn't cost money. I'm fine with paying for Map Packs. They've always been worth it to me.
    Armor, emblems, assassinations, etc., like you said, should be earned. Not randomly given in a pack that may or may not reward them, depending if they decide to give you the bullshit certification cards that are pointless and only hinder how many permanents you get. Seems more like buying the Req packs with actual money is more of a waste if you aren't even promised the cosmetic items, and you could be given a card that increases your chances of receiving a one time use card. Which, by getting more and more of those Certifications actually decreases your chances of receiving the item the certification is for. It's pointless.
    Anyway, to sum it up. EARN cosmetics, be randomly given Warzone items.
    I didn't think the Warzone aspect was a bad idea, but paying for one time use items is a waste of your time and money.

    Wow, I never thought about the req system in that way. Good job breaking it down Favyn. I can't say I relate as well as you do to this though. Iv'e never been much of a community player. The reason being, the accounts are shared and I can't just interact with whoever I want. Anyway, I think you're right. My ideal version of Halo armor rewards would be more geared around single player achievements, with some community required stuff. Just thought I'd say what I thought, and ask what other people think. My community less-ness also explains why I'm still 290 light in Destiny.

    I´m hunting down certain items from rare to legendary..Instead of trying to get lucky I´ll work my way to the top...I´m done with all common items, and I am working my way down the silver packs now, sure it´s not rewarding as in performance or task based rewards, but as I keep laying and unlocking certifications I can actually see how my options and builds on how to play this game keep growing, sure it is based merely on luck of getting certain items but at least in this case you can narrow down the loot pol so they can become easier to obtain, I just got my last rare helmet...I´m happy, it feels rewarding...specially because I´ve had so much fun playing the game...
    I understand your point of view, and I mean, there are some rewards like those in the game...Helioskrill involves beaitng all 4 Halo campaigns on legendary, and so on and so on...I guess in the end I´d like to still have a shot at having everything in the game if I put enough time into it...

    Great video! I was sort of ok with the req system till I watched your video. I totally agree with what you said and it's totally changed my view on the req system. Though there's one thing that I was wondering, which is that there's a lot of different cosmetic items in Halo 5. Do you think there would be a way to still to have all of the cosmetic items and still create challenges for all of them to make most of worth something? Also I had an idea for warzone in future Halo games. 343i could make the req system exclusively for warzone items (power weapons, vehicles, armor mods, power ups, and weapon variants) and XP/RP boosts. What do you think?

    • @FavynTube
      @FavynTube  8 лет назад

      They can't make req packs fir warzone items only because it won't make money.
      Technically the req system and challenge system could co exist, but that would mean some armor means something, and some means nothing. Making challenge armor unlocks ubtainable randomly through reqs would also eliminate the symbolism of the armor, as it would no longer definitively stand for something.
      Also there's the fact that the req system is a microtransaction system. And I'm hesitant to give it even an inch for fear of future installments becoming even more pushy and in your face with it

    • @aubird456
      @aubird456 8 лет назад

      +Favyn Well they could maybe just not have the req packs for warzone MTs and just have us pay for DLC. Also I completely agree with the fear of MTs getting worse, but maybe that won't happen given that 343i tried to make the req packs not so intrusive (probably knowing if they didn't they would create a lot more anger)

    They could make the REQ system a lot better if there static REQ packs that players could unlock for completing challenges and ranking up. With static REQ packs I mean packs with pre-determined items that you are guaranteed to get if you unlock it. This would probably be a much better system for future installments because it would mix RNG with actual unlocks.

    It's videos like these that make me feel very guilty for liking Halo 5. I feel guilty because I see no problem with what they have done. It all feels fine to me. Halo 5 feels like previous Halo games to me, the REQ system feels quite rewarding, and all. Still requires effort.
    And at this point, I'm willing to forego literally all of it. I want 343 to do what you guys want to do _just_ so I can actually enjoy the game. At this point, I _literally_ don't care about what I enjoy. And because of that, I am technically considered a _sheep_ . A negative connotation. Is that not bad?
    One thing though, I enjoy having access to _all_ content. Some people _SIMPLY CANNOT DO_ certain challenges to earn certain things. Should those people be punished for it? Plus, some people simply _don't_ have the time to work toward that stuff.
    Halo: Reach was just a grinding pain to me. First, it _revealed_ the armor in the menu. Then, you had to rank up to unlock it. THEN you had to have the CSR to buy it. It was painful and tiring. Nothing is more painful than grinding away level after level in a game. THEN nothing is more tiring than grinding for points to purchase stuff. At least in Halo 5 those points are practically _handed out_ to you.
    AT least the REQ system means:
    A. They can have TONS of content. Content that is way too much to tie to specific goals.
    B. They can add new content post-launch. Things like the SPNKR and other weapon/vehicle variants.

      +Rhas 'Churol
      A. I feel like you're underestimating the potential vastness of Halo's sandbox.
      Think of how many medals could potentially exist in a future title (I like to think of Reach as a reference point); it's a sizeable amount (even though nowhere near as many as there are armor). Now think of how many weapons and vehicles could potentially exist; chances are that's less so than medals, but still plenty to choose from. Now think of how many gametypes could potentially exist; that's probably even less so than weapons/vehicles, but still a notable amount. Now think of how many launch maps there can be; still not a ton, but still plenty of opportunities for things like interactive events, Easter eggs, number of matches played, etc. Now think of how many major game modes; chances are this is the smallest value, but think of how many things you could do in a Firefight match, or how many things you could do with Forge (things akin to the Tank Dropper achievement could be fun ones), or how many things can be done in Warzone, or how many Easter eggs, difficulty challenges, coop challenges, score/speedrunning challenges, and silly tasks there can be for campaign.
      Now all those listed above aren't a whole lot on their own, but think of how many potential combinations are possible between them. For example: You could get 10 overall kills with a Sword and get the Shinobi helmet, but if you get a triple kill with it, you get an assasination animation where your knife is replaced with an energy dagger, or if you get a sword spree you get a cool sword emblem, or if you get 5 overall kills with it on the theoretical Lockout remake you get a stance where you player draws a sword, or if you use a sword to kill the juggernaut/king you get the Bracer weapon skin, or if you complete all sword challenges you get the katana chest piece. You see? Just off the top of my head I was able to turn one weapon into 6 different pieces of armor (not to mention how the pieces unlocked were tailored to match the theme of these tasks just for fun). This can be done for literally EVERY aspect of the sandbox (and they don't have to all be vidmaster-levels of difficulty nor Inheritor-levels of grind). And to think this doesn't even take into account all the little odds and ends like the file browser, Spartan abilities, matchmaking aspects, Waypoint, service record, Spartan companies, skill, time played, commendations, temporary challenges, and even a Warzone-specific REQ system.
      B. Why is the REQ system (as it stands now) the only way this can work? You could add DLC armor in this task-based system as well. For example: They could add the Mk V to the game and simultaneously add a challenge that unlocks it by getting 10 overall kills with the legendary CE magnum (or they could go the Halo 4 route and give out for free, but that's a tad boring imo). DLC weapons/vehicles are even EASIER. Just add them to the forge pallet (we know this is possible since 343i is treating H5's forge as an ongoing service), and add them to Warzone. Simple as that.

    • @Mega-Brick
      @Mega-Brick 8 лет назад

      A. Sure, it sounds great. But it suffers from two things. Time, the dreaded thing that affects _everything_ , as it would take ages to program in. And 'space'. While there are a lot of combinations, it would still ultimately limit the number of unlockables. (And probably even prevent them from adding new ones). And I suppose confusingness has an affect in it as well.
      B. As I said in A, there is a _very_ limited space. With an RNG-unlock system, they can have about a billion things. But there aren't a billion combinations even possible in Halo as we know it. At least, not without it overlapping so much that it gets so confusing and we end up unlocking about 30 things every time we play a match.

    Good video. I have to say while I agree that most of your points, and how items should be linked to achievements, I'm opposed to gutting REQs entirely. The filthy warzone causal that I am, I find a lot of these gameplay impacting items to be better off artificially restricted. That said, I could definitely get behind you 100% if achievements were the way to get cosmetics, and extrodinary performance with a weapon gets you what is now the legendary version, but if REQ packs stayed to restrict the flow of certain rare weapons and provide an abundance of common ones.

    While I agree with pretty much all your points in this video, I think you left out one aspect of the new system you are suggesting. How would the game continue to thrive financially with your reward system? Would it return to map packs, or would you have some armour sets which had to be purchased? I'm not disagreeing with anything you said, just curious as to what you think Microsoft would implement for post-launch finances (because they obviously would).

      +Favyn Although I agree that map packs are not a bad thing and DLC has picked up a little bit of an undeserved connotation, i personally feel that with the already slowly shrinking Halo population and with the segmentation of the community into Warzone and Arena, payed Map Packs would only further segment the playerbase. Some players wouldn't buy any, some would buy all of them, and some would only choose a handful of map packs they like and purchase those. All these different players would require their own playlists therefore segmenting the playerbase further. I'm in no way defending Req Packs (in fact I hate them), but I just don't know what else Microsoft could do to monetise.

  • @Elcestrus
    @Elcestrus 8 лет назад

    Here's an idea which is pretty far fetched but could essentially work. Warzone should return in Halo 6, along with Reqs- but on a separate disk/ as a separate app. Campaign, standard multiplayer, Firefight, Custom Games, Forge and Theatre should come on one disk and Warzone and the REQs as a separate disk. Why? Because Reqs are pointless in arena. The changes are purely cosmetic.
    The REQ system should remain in warzone, where you rack up points and buy packs to try and nab the armor you want. And there should be the same amount, if not more, of armors, weapon skins and all the other stuff in it.
    But now let's talk about this new arena mode - it gives more of the classic Halo feel, with the Halo 5 engine and a few extra add ins. In fact, it'd be most similar to Reach. In Arena, the customization would be much better than it is now
    - you'd have helmet, helmet addon, visor, torso, torso addon, left shoulder, right shoulder, left forearm, right forearm, codpiece, thigh armor, thigh addon, shins, and boots.
    And these would all be earned (Mostly in full sets, excluding add-ons and visor) through playing arena matches, completing challenges, picking up skulls and unlocking achievements.
    But why?
    Because the REQ system somewhat eliminated the need to play repeatedly. Especially with microtransactions. It also gives you a reason to play well, and a reason to revisit the campaign to nab that sweet armor set. Because by doing that, you actually can showcase your armor for doing something awesome, rather than "I got lucky in a req pack"
    For example, let's imagine an armor set called "Slicer" which is earned by destroying 100 Brute Choppers in multiplayer. You'd get a little pop-up in the bottom right of your screen, and when the game ends there's a rewards screen showcasing your new armor. And you do this for every armor set in arena.
    Speaking of armor sets, the amount of armors in arena should be restricted from those in Warzone. The armors with like 4 skins should remain in the REQ system, and in Warzone, but only the base version should be in Arena. One thing I know is pointless to suggest, but still worth a shot, is that older variants of armors should return to Arena. EVA, Recon, Rogue, EOD. I know it's sort of fanboy service but I (and I know others would too) would like to see the classic ones return alongside the updated ones.
    One thing to note - I don't say these things because I miss games like Halo 3 where things were simple. I still play Halo 3 and enjoy it but it's not that it's nostalgia asking for these things- it's that games like Halo 3 were genuinely good games. I enjoy Halo 5 but I just don't really appreciate the REQ system influencing Arena.
    And armor abilities should return, because to be honest they're pretty awesome.

    I loved staying up till 3 in the morning with my buddies doing the vidmasters to get recon.

    I hate the Req system. It takes WAY to long to get your req points up to 10000 in order to acquire the gold packs which is why people just buy them which was the point of 343 putting microtransactions into the gamevto begin with. They know you're going to get tired of grinding for hours to get ONE gold pack. They know the majority of players will just pay for the packs to lessen the grind. Why waste your time on card packs if you could jump on halo 3 or even 4 and earn cool new pieces of armor? I remember wanting to get the green visor in halo 4. To get it you had to get a certain amount of splatters. This system rewards players and keeps them coming back. The system they are using doesn't.

    I agree with a lot of what is being said. It is satisfying when I would unlock armor from doing specific tasks. Like in Halo 4 when I got the Venetor armor. It was hard getting all those assassinations, but it made me work for the armor and I enjoyed doing it. (even though Halo 4 wasn't the best of Halo games) you still had to work for the armor that you wanted and you found who you were as a gamer and had cool armor to show for it. I will always love Halo and what 343 is doing with it, even though their games may have many flaws, they still will continue to amaze me with how they keep the Halo franchise going. And let's be honest here, no game is truly perfect. There will always be flaws in every game we play, it's just a matter if your having fun playing them.

    Although I agree that old halo systems for unlocking armor were cool, I think you're really underselling the satisfaction you can get from the req system. Firstly, you don't just "unlock a nornfang and die with it and never use it again". You get a certification, meaning you are very likely to pull the nornfang in subsequent packs related to it's rarity. So when I got a weapon I really wanted, I didn't feel like I should save it or i'll die with it or whatever, I just felt that I had a new weapon in my arsenal. Sure, I couldn't spam it every match but the fact that I have so many diverse weapons for different situations in warzone makes up for that.
    Secondly, there is progression in the req system. If you do it correctly, you can increase chances for certain drops by using the system correctly. I want to 100 percent the game, so I first went and bought bronze packs until I had every common, now im doing silver until I have every rare and below and i'm almost finished with that. When i'm finished with silvers, I'll get a reward for finishing all of them (I believe it's the ONI rocket turret or something) and then I can move on to golds to unlock all of the legendaries/ultra rares. I feel that it isn't "all luck" because most people who have high tier gear got it through unlocking everything that comes before it.
    Thirdly, and this is subjective, I think that opening packs for rare unlocks in of itself is a very fun thing. Maybe I want to go buy a gold pack and hopefully get lucky, or maybe i'll be safe and stick to my silvers. But the feeling you get when you get lucky and pull something that you've been waiting for is amazing for most people. Sure, some prefer unlocking through achievements but that's just me.
    I think that optimally we'd have a system of both. Req system should stay, but should focus on req weapons and cosmetics foremost, and there should be an unlock system for certain armors and maybe skins that you can't get through the req system. Something like that would make everyone happy I think. But oh well, i'm just going to get disliked because of the "oh X developer is runing my favorite game! change is the worst thing ever!!!" bandwagon.

    I don't believe there is really a "problem" with the system, but it's simply the absence of a system you want. You may not like that it doesn't work the way you want it and if that's so then this isn't the game you should be playing. It's honestly just your opinion and Halo 5 just isn't about that stuff. Maybe Halo 6 will be, who knows.
    In its core, Halo focuses on fun, quick, and competitive gameplay. It didn't have any armor earning things until Halo 3. So really, for a Halo game it's not NEEDED, but it would be nice if they added it.

      well seeing as how 343 fixed their mistakes from halo 4 to 5 it is very possible that that they will take out the req system and implement something new. I have been hearing rumours that becuase of the amount of bitchy fanboys complaining about split screen they are strongly considering bringing it back.

    • @assass1ngaming
      @assass1ngaming 8 лет назад

      Split screen can't be brought back as of now. The xbox one and Halo 5 together aren't strong enough to handle that because of the engine, but they want to add it to 6

    I completely agree with everything you said about not feeling rewarded in halo 5. I have always felt accomplished when I would unlock armor in halo 3 it was hard as hell but I was satisfied.

    Been watching from the beginning and you always put out a quality video every time. I really like how you think man. One thing though, the videos are a bit lengthy, but it's not a huge deal. Keep it up man 👍👍

    personally I believe(For armour) Halo 3's is a great idea. Although don't use achievements but in game challenges where you have a list of things or a certain thing to do for example - earn 3 perfect kills in a row in arena. These challenges can vary from armour to armour and when you see a high challenge armour you can just see that the person wearing it has earnt it

    I wish 343 saved some armor, camo, SOMETHING to achievements. The RNG aspect of REQ packs is kind of fun though I just wish that EVERYTHING was hidden away in it.

    what makes me upset is that I cant get emblems and other cosmetics. its so limited compared to the past where you pick one that you like and thats it. Now you have to pick from whatever you get

    I believe a combination of the 3 systems could work if each unlocking method had its own armor. Also I think that more Reach styled armor pieces would be nice.

    Now, I love your opinion and I support you, but on the off chance that you did, I feel as if you overlooked the emblem reward for comendations, and I got a Rhino Emblem for spartan charges and it encouredged that kind of interaction. This isn't significant enough whatsoever to desway your opinion, but its an exception you didn't cover. Again, you're totally right, and this is just the slightest flaw like the hair in the pasta; it needed to be mentioned, but the dish is *exquisite*

      Yea but those "commendations" are still kinda just a representation of how long you play. The challenges I'm talking about are less "win 100 games" and more " do this certain task"
      But I digress it is at least SOMETHING.

    Maybe you could make a commentary about the ridiculous banning system? I have 8 DNF this month and I went idle for 3 games in Warzone after realizing there was no way to turn the game around (500 to 900). Got banned for 1 day, 18 hours, 20min (banned me for idling)

    I have an idea for them to keep Warzone as well as have this challenge-based armor. They can just keep it like it is, but remove unlocking certain 1-time use cards in the packs. Players still have to advance their REQ level throughout the game, and items still diminish that REQ level

    I don't think the Req system should be absent. I think the Req system needs to be complimented with earned content. There has always been "gimme" content. There has always been hard to get gear. Halo 5 needs more of that. They can make content that is rewarding, but also have these req items.

    Those vidmaster achievements those... Halo 3 was the best Halo to me because every piece of armor was earned. You didn't just 'buy' it like in Reach, you didn't just get it from a random loot box and got lucky. You got that piece of armor because you took the time to get in meaningfully. It's such a shame this aspect of Halo is forgotten. I miss it, I had a fun community back then.

    Hey I know this post is late but what would you as if there still was a req system but only for lower tear and war zone stuff and higher armor and emblems you get thought challenges that way they get the money they want and we get maps for free

  • @Cassandra.

    On the topic of whether I found grinding Warzone for 3 days straight for the Gen 1 helmets was rewarding or not, yes. I felt pretty happy with that, but that was because I earned them. If I just got them through RNG, I wouldn't have cared. They would've been cool, but that's it.

    I basically ran into the same thing in halo 4. I see people with the assassin armor for getting assassin mastery but I find some jersey with Mk 5 armor (which looks great) but he purchased it... AT LEVEL 5
