I always say that we can easily witness a surge in the divorce rate in Pakistan if it's only ensured that a woman leaving her husband will be provided shelter, food, work opportunity, and respect. You will watch the women leave. I read so many cases of women living in oppressive marriages because they are dependent, have kids, and their own families are not willing to cooperate or accept them if they decide to go back to their parents. This further boosts the confidence of such monsters because they know these women have nowhere to go. These women just need some social security and acceptance to take this leap of faith and make better choices for themselves.

My sister was supposed to get married later this year. I am in the U.S and my family is back in India. One evening she called me and told me that she is expecting. My initial reaction was happiness and joy. After comforting her I called her Fiance to check if he was on board. She was worried about our dad. My father is a rational man. I spoke with him. Made him understand that she is in her late 30s and this is a blessing in disguise. He and my mother understood. Even if they wouldn't have and the Fiance was not on board I would have still stood by my sister. I am going to be a Mama. They have preponed the wedding because they care about society. I don't care what people say. I and my sister work hard and we are more than capable of sustaining ourselves. Dogma! What will society think! Honor Killing! Uncivilized people with no backbone think of all these things. Live a good and healthy life. Society and cultures can be Toxic. They are what we make them!
As an Indian, I can say that people here have evolved a lot. They have realised the importance of empowering their daughters. It's really good to see that whenever I meet some relative and their first advice is "do not get married unless u become completely independent". Most of the Indian parents are now quite supportive of their children's career choices, it's not just restricted to Engineering Or Medical any longer. Inter caste or inter state marriages are also being accepted by many parents. It's not easy for most of our parents to accept all these changes immediately. It's us, who has to make them understand this, not fight/argue with them. Some of their concerns are obvious but they too have to learn how to be more accepting of the fact that the time has changed. Indians have changed a lot, but yes there are still many who hold onto these mindsets, especially in the rural areas. But I'm sure things will change with time.

I'm a Liberal person and I actually do worry about India. To me India is another bullshit country having lot of bad influence in Pakistan. Like the caste system of Indian culture is still haunting pakistan despite being no caste discrimination in the religion of majority. This is much needed topic, these incidents also happens in India but society never supports the culprits, even there is huge change in people's mentality in cities, cast and religion are not problem but social status is still a taboo, my cousin married to a lower cast her Brahmin family first opposed but later accepted them. 15-20 yrs back the situation was really alarming, today most of the honour killing cases we may find in rural areas or muslims kill hindu boy for having affair with their daughter. Hindu families mostly break any ties with their children rather killing them but yes honour killing also exists in hindus

I always say that we can easily witness a surge in the divorce rate in Pakistan if it's only ensured that a woman leaving her husband will be provided shelter, food, work opportunity, and respect. You will watch the women leave. I read so many cases of women living in oppressive marriages because they are dependent, have kids, and their own families are not willing to cooperate or accept them if they decide to go back to their parents. This further boosts the confidence of such monsters because they know these women have nowhere to go. These women just need some social security and acceptance to take this leap of faith and make better choices for themselves.
Despite of this 70,000 divorce cases were reported only in Lahore last year, Imagine what will happen if the govt starts helping divorcees financially

My sister was supposed to get married later this year. I am in the U.S and my family is back in India. One evening she called me and told me that she is expecting. My initial reaction was happiness and joy. After comforting her I called her Fiance to check if he was on board.
She was worried about our dad. My father is a rational man. I spoke with him. Made him understand that she is in her late 30s and this is a blessing in disguise. He and my mother understood. Even if they wouldn't have and the Fiance was not on board I would have still stood by my sister. I am going to be a Mama.

As an Indian, I can say that people here have evolved a lot. They have realised the importance of empowering their daughters. It's really good to see that whenever I meet some relative and their first advice is "do not get married unless u become completely independent".
Most of the Indian parents are now quite supportive of their children's career choices, it's not just restricted to Engineering Or Medical any longer.
Inter caste or inter state marriages are also being accepted by many parents.
It's not easy for most of our parents to accept all these changes immediately. It's us, who has to make them understand this, not fight/argue with them. Some of their concerns are obvious but they too have to learn how to be more accepting of the fact that the time has changed.
Indians have changed a lot, but yes there are still many who hold onto these mindsets, especially in the rural areas. But I'm sure things will change with time.

I am from India. for decades we had same situation same problems not extreme but we are surpassing it. I feel bad that I never heard Syed before. This is not about you pointing out problems in Pakistan and I feel happy because of it as Indian. This is about Nationalism I am happy that I heard someone who is worried about people, for future, for their prosperity. We(India) are still have so many problems but pointing out those problem is first step to surpass and become better. My senior, my teachers taught me one thing Religious books, teaching, practices were old syllabus for that perticular time period it was accurate perfect whatever you call it. But today, problems are different and we have to upgrade our syllabus.

I'm a Liberal person and I actually do worry about India. To me India is another bullshit country having lot of bad influence in Pakistan. Like the caste system of Indian culture is still haunting pakistan despite being no caste discrimination in the religion of majority. I care for Kashmiri people not just bcz that they are Muslims but other links such as ethnicity, language, geography and culture etc.

Once again, i am afraid this is Muzammil's personal point of view. This is not the origins of honour killing in South Asia. Having honour, keeping your words, fulfilling duty towards their tribe is actually a STRENGTH of global indigenous and tribal cultures. However the origins of violence in the form of honour killing originates from Western colonials and Euro- Celtic practices who used to accuse women of being witches and lynch them alive, publicly! Honestly we need to have a mukalma on this, rather than listen to a monologue like this. Extremely misleading.

This is much needed topic, these incidents also happens in India but society never supports the culprits, even there is huge change in people's mentality in cities, cast and religion are not problem but social status is still a taboo, my cousin married to a lower cast her Brahmin family first opposed but later accepted them.
15-20 yrs back the situation was really alarming, today most of the honour killing cases we may find in rural areas or muslims kill hindu boy for having affair with their daughter. Hindu families mostly break any ties with their children rather killing them but yes honour killing also exists in hindus
