    Are you currently in university? What does applying minimalism in college look like for you? 🌿

    Oh! Another tip: if you are in the market for furniture or a new TV, scout out the dorms when school is almost done. People move out of their dorms and don't want to take their stuff with them, so you can often score free stuff just by looking around the backs of the dormitories.

    I came to minimalism in my college years. It changed the way I view materialism, finances, and life in general. Thanks for sharing.💕

    Taking notes by hand is much better for memory and I really saw the benefits after switching. Same thing with my to-do lists. Everything hand written I actually remembered and stuck to.

    For me, digital stuff is also clutter. So it doesn't really make a difference if I have digital books, notes, etc. or physical stuff that I throw away after some years when I don't need it anymore. I just don't like spending so much time in front of screens and to be honest, I learn much better from "real" books and notebooks. Just my opinion. Very interesting tho to hear your point of view!

    When I can't find my textbook online, I borrow a textbook from my college library and scan them into pdfs. Im still not sure if it's illegal tho...saved $540 on textbooks that year.

      Jessie G Depends where you live, but you’d probably only get in trouble if you tried selling the PDFs. I’ve downloaded quite a few full books from PDFdrive, but I doubt anybody cares about stuff like that anyway.

      That’s badass. I love that you scanned it into pdf’s! That has to take a ton of patience!

    I think a big tip is to set priorities. I live in the Netherlands and in the winter temperatures rarely drop under the freezing point. And on a bike you get warm anyway, so winter gear is just clutter that I would wear for maybe 10 minutes (do get gloves if you ride a bike!). Books however are important to me because I like using them to study. A sofa or a bed frame not important to me, but I like some extra blankets and pillows to cuddle up on my mattresses.
    Think about what you really like or need vs what other people and minimalists tell you to want!

    I used E-Books this semester to get a History book for only $15! I saved so much on it!!! I’m so grateful our professor gave us that reference so we could save money. Thanks Professor A!

    The students moved in en masse into my building over the weekend and I heard the unmistakable sound of IKEA beds being assembled all weekend.
    If you live in a cold climate (I am also Canadian) invest in good weather gear. Sturdy boots, practical hat and mitts, long underwear, warm socks and a good winter jacket. When it comes to freezing cold weather, it's best to be warm and look like a complete dork rather than stand at the bus stop freezing your derriere off. So sort of be minimalist with your regular wardrobe, nobody will notice, but maximalist with cold wear gear.

      @AshlynneEaton  6 лет назад +3

      If you live in Canada you definitely need enough cold-weather gear 😂 That being said I think it’s still a good thing to invest in one really high-quality coat, boots, etc. even though you need a lot more winter gear than someone living in the south would, I think you can still be intentional about how much you keep :)

    Something I like to do for literature or history type classes that require actual books like novels and not just textbooks is to get them from the library. Either the school library or the local library will have a copy of War and Peace or whatever you need, and then you don't have to worry about buying and owning it.

    If you want to take physical notes: buy oxford scribzee notebooks, you can scan and organize them with your phone and upload them to cloud storage

    I saved money 2 ways. I quit college and I refill my bottled water from the tap with one of those water filters. $1 each time I refill a bottle :)

    Currently in college. Go Coyotes!! Minamalism looks like carrying just a backpack with my pens and pencils, one notebook and my laptop. :)

    Idk girl... bic crystal pens last a millennia. Word is that they are refilled by fairies at night. (No, but seriously.... it took me exclusively writing with one BIC crystal for a year and a half to run it out)

    I bought a lot of Ikea furniture when I moved out of my parents house 6 years ago. In that time I’ve only needed to replace my sofa.

    • @AshlynneEaton
      @AshlynneEaton  6 лет назад +2

      That’s awesome! I will say that not all their furniture is made the same and some pieces are a lot higher quality than others

    Omg this video is PERFECT for me rn, head back to Uni for year 2 in about 1 week!
    Ive been trying to be more minimal with how I keep my bedroom so it feels open and clean and allows me to concentrate on studying more. Hate the cluttered look 👎🏻
    Also, not buying more supplies than I need, 4 pens, 2 large notebooks and some highlighters are enough:) i hate when people go over board

    I want to save up money and not spend thousands on birthday treats. Can anyone here suggest how do i approach my friend circle for it without seeming too rude?

      Maybe instead of buying a bunch of things for birthdays, make or bake their gifts.
