Congratulations on your engagement!
I'm in high school and I plan to major in biology and learning that you're a research scientist and able to keep your hobbies and personality and whatnot gave me so much hope and relief for my future
That's awesome!
As a current college student majoring in chemistry who crochets at every extra moment, its definitely doable! I even play piano in some ensembles. In the stem fields too many people think that they have to be all Science Science Science nothing else and lose sight of the rest of life. I personally think its horribly flawed to approach being a scientist with such a narrow approach, when one of the major aspects of being a scientist is open mindedness and creativity.
Crochet is a huge inspiration for why im in chemistry and hope to do either drug research or material chemistry (synthesizing polymers to fuel my yarn addiction). I wish you luck in your own studies, do everything you can with all the passion you have. You got this
@@vinnyibarraoh my goodness! I also play piano! This is actually so cool and makes me feel so much better
You are highly methodical but also highly expressive. I admire your passion for learning new skills. I too have a pile of random swatches, learning projects, and largely unused equipment for projects I plan to do
Thank you! It IS so fun :)
Super cool hearing about your professional work!
First of all, congratulations on your recent engagement! I wish the two of you a lifetime of happiness, success, and a huge yarn stash.
Second, I learned to crochet before I learned how to knit. I prefer a knitted finished project, although each craft has its advantages. The one drawback to knitting is the sheer amount of knowledge required as you progress. For example, before you even knit a stitch, there are at least 20 ways of casting on. If you remove the more advanced cast-ons (Italian, Bavarian Twisted, Turkish, etc.), you're still left with at least 6 basic cast-ons, each one suited to a particular project group. Binding off can also be a lot to learn, depending upon how stretchy and flexible you need your bind-off to be. Again, at least 20 bind-offs exist. One pleasant surprise is that when I design knitwear, I use algebra and, if it's a three-dimensional garment without seams, there's almost always light calculus involved. In short, knitting is a wonderful rabbit hole; I jumped in headfirst, and I'm all right with that.
Third, creativity being a sign of intelligence, it doesn't surprise me that you have a Ph.D. I would suggest you don't give up on working at your current position any time soon. It's better to be at the end of your life with memories, rather than with regrets.
Fourth, if you're seriously looking to collaborate with someone who knows amigurumi, may I suggest Elise Rose Crochet. she does good work and has tutorials on her channel here. Like you, she's intelligent and creative, and she can't hide that, either.
Finally, a prediction: if you let us know where we can send wedding gifts, you will be absolutely inundated with crocheted articles, fancy yarns, and a lifetime of patterns from the last 180 years. The oldest known written pattern was first published in the 1840's, and it was in French, so keep that in mind. Just Vintage Crochet is my go-to pattern channel, but that's for another day.
Keep it up, you're doing so well!
Thank you for all that! Yes, the more I struggled with this project the more I realized there's so much ti learn with knitting, and that just might he the reason why I end up pursuing it more over crochet in the future. Who knows! I recently had some folks ask if they could send me things, so I'm going to be creating a PO Box (to keep my home safe). I think my growth has been so fast that I just had absolutely no infrastructure and building all these new ways to interact with you all while still doing my work and craft has been a lot! I'm excited that things are finally starting to settle into place :)
I just found your page and am completely smitten😂 I'm in grad school right now and started crocheting over the summer. I used to live in Chicago with my now husband and can't believe the parallels! So glad I found you!
Hi Romi! Lovely episode. Congratulations on 10K+ subscribers! Well deserved. Congratulations on your engagement with Jason as well! Many blessings!! 💜🤗🤗💜
Thank you, Emilia! Super good week :)
You're welcome Romi @Showmeromi
I’m glad you’re not giving up your day job because, although I’m not privy to your research, I still feel like the work you’re doing is important and the world needs all their scientists. However, I’m glad to see you post creative crochet videos because they are inspiring.
Congratulations! The way you feel about knitting I feel about crochet. Lol. Put LIFELINES into your knitting! Look it up on here.
I have since discovered them, AND continental style and my life is changed
A drops pattern sounds like a challenge by itself, but it looks incredible so far! I feel very inspired to make a cable knit too. Congratulations on the engagement!
The tapestry temperature blanket sounds it l really cool actually, of you end up doing it i hope it goes well ❤
I recently got recommended one of your videos and I immediately subscribed. I only ever did some knitting years ago and haven't ever tried crochet, but your personality is so friendly and happy. You're the type of person I would wanna be friends with. Congratulations on the 10k and of course on your engagement! ❤
That's sweet thank you! Crochet is so fun but I'll totally do other crafts, too:)
Congratulations on everything!! I really like watching your content and I'm glad I found you!! Looking forward to everything you do in the future!!
It is so inspiring to hear that you are do both research as a career and creative stuff like crochet! I’m an undergrad and I’ve gotten really involved in research to the detriment of my crocheting time 😢. I know that I want to get a PhD in a similar field but I had been worried that I wouldn’t get to do creative projects like crochet anymore.
Its hard to carve time out at times but the further up you move the more you get to be in charge of your time. Sometimes I don't go fast enough, but that's OK! Making time for yourself is possible :)
OMG, congratulations on your engagement! And the 10K! And your birthday! Everything's coming up Romi!
Congratulations to both of you! yayyyy I'm Dominican too.
Yay! Living in the west coast mostly it was so hard to find Dominicans :) hi
Watching this while crocheting my shirt 🥹 congrats on your engagement❤️
Hi! Congrats 🎉for your engagement. Can’t wait to see your future videos, you have a fairly busy and interesting schedule 😅. Also congratulations for the well deserved 10k! Much love from Italy! 😊
Thank you! Yeah I have a lot going on haha
Woah! Congrats on the engagement, and your day job sounds super fascinating! I’m also pursuing a Human Bio degree and love to crochet just for fun, I love the comradery!
Yay scientist artists!!
Omg fellow research scientist (currently working on my Ph.D.)! I was just talking to a friend the other day about the similarities between lab work and crafting (planning, experimenting, iterating, learning new methods, etc etc etc) - makes so much sense why your content resonates so much! Congrats on all your recent success :)
Thank you!
Congratulations on all these awesome milestones, your ring is just so beautiful 🫶 Another crocheting researcher here ✋️ Im happy to have found your channel so early.
Congrats on your engagement! i really enjoy watching your videos!
soo… happy… for …. you…. 🥹
Romi! Everything I learn about you makes me enjoy your videos that much more :)
I studied abroad in the Santiago de los Caballeros one summer- the way Dominicans speak Spanish is so unique and exciting! I’ve thought about learning crochet terms in Spanish just for fun haha. Would you ever make a video in Spanish?
Also, it’s always such a treat to find other queer folks in the fiber art community 🥹 Biggest congrats to you and your partner (and Pooj, whose name I definitely thought was Pooch the first few videos of yours I watched lol)!!
Hi! Santiago is great. I’ve had folks request for me to translate my patterns into Spanish and I’ve been doing that and that has been the extent of my Spanish on social media :) thank you!
Congrats!! I cannot believe you only started in September, you definitely know more about technique than me and I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. Seriously inspired by your talent, keep up the amazing work :) I look forward to learning from you
Hi!! I'm a new subscriber, and I really like your personality, you seem like a chill and lovely person! Looking forward to your new videos!
P.S. Congratulations on your engagement! ❤
Thank you! Welcome, Ivonne💕

Congratulations on your engagement!! ❤❤❤ Love the vest idea 💡 too. Hugs for Pooji
ayy congrats on the engagement!! and thanks for sharing your projects with us, you have so much cool stuff in progress :)
Congratulations on your engagement!
I envy you in that you have talents on both the right side and the left side of the brain. I'm especially interested in the vest project. I look forward to seeing your progress on all the projects.
Firstly, congratulations on your engagement! 🎉 How exciting! Also, it’s so cool to learn more about you. Your personality, energy, and creativity is what attracts me to your videos, and now that I know that you’re a scientist (I’m a RA for a nonprofit :) ) makes me even more of a fan. I get so excited every time I see that you’ve uploaded a new video! Please keep doing what your doing! 😊 side note: I’d love hear more about your life and travels!
Thank you! I always expect people just care about the crochet so that's nice to hear :)
Congratulations on your engagement and 10k!! 🎉
Sorry about being one of the ones who misheard your cat's name ^^;;
Whoa, that tapestry sounds so cool!! And huge!
Do you like all fiber arts, or mostly crochet and knitting? Do you think you'd want to try macrame?
Your projects all sound really fun, i look forward to seeing them done. Good luck with your projects!
I have though of macrame. It's really cool for wall art! I just might :)
congrats on the engagement!! love the video like always, looking forward to the pooj pattern!
Congratulations on the engagement!!!
Thank you for this fun video video❤ you are so pleasant to listen to and I can tell you’re very patient person
Thank you, that's ver sweet. I'm very patient... unless I'm hungry 😂
I agree, it definitely takes practice to learn a new stitch, technique etc. I make a lot of dishcloths and dish scrubbers. There have definitely been failures along the way but also awesome successes when one of my patterns works the way I envisioned it. Sometimes I can turn my trial/test pieces into cool projects such as a shirt or a tote bag or even a blanket
I plan to one day make some sort of scraps sweater! We'll see how that pans out. Maybe even a throw pillow.
Hi been watching for a while now and love your content. Love seeing other guys/male presenting people in the fiber arts space. If you're thinking about doing live streams/hangouts there's a pretty amazing crafting community over on twitch with lots of people who do crotchet, knitting and fiber arts along with a variety of other craft... Very similar vibes I get from your channel. Just thought I would mention it because I know a lot of people don't associate twitch with crafters.
Yes! I think that would be perfect for me. I always forget about Twitch. Thank you
Thought: you prob don’t like knitting b/c you don’t like using patterns as much as experimenting. You don’t have to follow knit patterns! I used Made in the Moment’s video on top down Raglan knitting to learn some foundations to experiment off of. So much fun 😊
You're so right! I think once I've taken on this super structured sweater I'll then be in a place where I understand all the components necessary to really start experimenting more with knit. I'll learn what different cable patterns look like, how raglan works, etc. i'm in the awkward growing phase with knitting 😅
Congratulations on everything!!❤️ And I’m looking forward to all your future project ❤️
Yessss love Digby and Iona, congratulations!
An easy way to en bloc change the size of a knitting pattern is to go up or down a yarn category (i.e. from finger weight to DK, or chunky to worsted) and then use whatever would be an appropriate size needle for your new yarn type instead of the pattern needle size. I do this a lot for colorwork yoke sweaters because when patterns are size graded they never increase the length of the colorwork part so it ends up looking too small for the rest of the sweater in the larger sizes as compared to the smaller sizes. You do have to do a gauge swatch first to decide what size you want to make as you’ll usually need to go up/down multiple sizes when you switch the yarn and needle size.
That's so smart! Something I'll consider next time :)
Congratulations on your engagement and for hitting 10K! 🥳❤
[Edit] And a belated happy birthday too 😊
Your videos make me so happy omigosh🥰 And congrats on your engagement
Congrats on your engagement! so excited for you.

Congratulations on your engagement 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations on your engagement! ❤❤❤
Congrats on your engagement! Love watching your content, am excited to see what's next❤
Congrats on the engagement!
Loving your content as it’s so calm and relaxing, it always makes me want to pick up my crochet hook!
I’m so happy for you and Jason! Congratulations❤!! And I can’t wait to see you finish the vest. I love that it’s in a jumble right now because it’s always fun to see you pull things together so wonderfully in the end! Love you and love your videos.
I'm not an amigurumi creator (nor a youtuber) but I've also has issues finding a pattern for a plushie i want to make and have been trying to figure out how to do it myself so I feel you!
Another thing to note is that Drops patterns are written in a very specific style that quite alot of people dislike - once you can understand the way things are phrased though, it'll be okay! Just want you to know so you don't get too discouraged wuth the pattern writing. Best of luck and congratulations!!! I'm really glad to see you grow and achieve so much! ❤❤
Yeah, I think FINALLy i figured out this pattern, and so far it's working out :) just wasn't in the right headspace to do it last week. I'm having fun with it now :)
Happy belated birthday and congratulations on your engagement! Looking forward to your next video whatever you chose to show us! 🤩
Congratulations! 💝
Just came across your channel a few weeks ago. Your videos are so pleasant to watch! Thanks for sharing a little bit of yourself and your art with the world! I'm also a scientist, so I was thrilled to learn that you are too. :) Congrats on the engagement!
Thank you :)
Congratulations on all your life updates! It's awesome you're a bio phd! I'm in bio too and am hoping to start a phd a few years from now. What kind of bio is your specialty?
Molecular! Hormone signaling evolution:) plant biology
Andy Samberg wore a crochet cardigan on Late Night with Seth Meyers recently and I know you said you were looking for more patterns to try out, while it is kind of granny squares it has a neat sun spiral in the centers, thought it was cute, maybe one to try out. Love seeing your process
Ooh, sure I'll look for it
Congratulations!!! I also teach myself different stitches with different yarn. I want to make my daughter a jacket using a lace stitch with a worsted yarn. Maybe a chunky, so I'm practicing what this works up like.
That's the best way to do it. Good luck on the sweater :)
I saw the movie Problemista recently and it reminded me of you! Hehe thanks for the video and congrats 🎉
Omh i get compared to him a lot. I love a lot of those actors!
I really love your content!! Also working on a drops cable knit sweater. It's the sailor knots pattern and it's been quite a fun challenge!💚💚
SO happy for you!!! All the good things, that's Awesommmme! Congratulations to you both on the engagement and to you on the sub count and in general for being a lovely energy! :)))) thanks for sharing!
You are so sweet and smart, I love being here and witness your creative journey
I’m moving to Chicago for law school soon! Any local yarn shop recs🧶/recs for a desert girl to survive the weather?💀
Omg the weather first of all isn't that bad. Seattle was harder for me because it was grey a dark and wet always. Here, i love sitting warm and cuddly inside and watch a big storm roll in. You only need one or two good waterproof puffy jackets :) i only ever go to Joann's or buy online, but as long as you live centrally or north, theres many good options! Good luck :)
i think its so cool that you have a PhD!!
i wanted to throw out that part of the frustration you’re having with the knit sweater may honestly be the pattern - drops is GREAT for good and affordable yarn, but their patterns tend to leave a lot to be desired (understandability, consistency, etc). you might try a different raglan pattern and see if that helps?
I'm happy to report most of the issues I have dealt with and am now making clear and happy progress! Just took a lot of trial and error to arrive at this point
👉👈 i would love to collab on a pooj pattern 😮
Just watched you channel a bit! I loke your vibe let's do it :)
pooch means tail in Hindi
Cute! Her name is Pooj, which I don't think means anything, but it's similar to Pooja.
Hello, I am a fun and trustworthy amigurumi pattern designer/youtuber type human - I'm happy to help you out
Yess!!!
A drops pattern sounds like a challenge by itself, but it looks incredible so far! I feel very inspired to make a cable knit too. Congratulations on the engagement!
Congratulations on the engagement!
