  • The Klondike Gold Rush, a massive rush of stampeeders that came to the yukon to find gold. Skagway Alaska was a major transportation hub during the gold rush. The white pass route over the mountains into the yukon provided a route to the gold fields. They traversed the pass with pack trains of supplies, and the railway had not been built.
A few years later, the White Pass & Yukon Railway had been built from Skagway to Whitehorse and provided a critical link to the world. Access to the yukon became easier. The railway line was built next to the trail of 98. Transportation in the north was changed forever, and the white pass and yukon route opened up the north for further trade and exploration.
It is a narrow gauge railway, blasted into the sides of massive granite mountains, the rail line dances precariously on the edges of benches. There are tunnels and trestles that weave through the mountains and into the yukon. The railway is a legendary piece of history that takes one back to the gold rush days of the klondike.
