F-35A Lightnings arrive at their new home | RAF Lakenheath

- After the reactivation of the 495th Fighter Squadron at RAF Lakenheath a couple of months ago, the first four F-35A Lightning II aircraft arrived at the base earlier this afternoon, where they will now be permanently based. Nicknamed 'The Valkyries', the 495th FS is the first overseas US Air Force Squadron to operate the F-35A Lightning - the 5th generation, highly advanced, stealth jet.
With early variants of the F-15 Eagle - the fighter that was until today the only aircraft operated at RAF Lakenheath - to be retired next year, it's good to see that the base will still be full of life now that the first few Lightnings have arrived; with many other deliveries planned in 2022.
The four F-35s flew over from Fort Worth Alliance Airport in Texas, with the help of a KC-135 (BLUE81) and a KC-10 (BLUE82) tanker aircraft. It was nice to see each aircraft perform a missed approach before landing after the four-ship arrived together in formation.

Departed from: Forth Worth Alliance Airport, Texas
Based at: RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk
Arrived at: 1350 hrs

4 down 44 to go . Great to see lakenheath taking in the new kites .
These will make a fine addition to Lakenheath. Superb.
Wonderful..Dont you just love the turn, bank and climb as they come in?..!!!
Are you 12?
@@bjdouma I'm 83 and I love it too.😊
@@bjdouma Are you bitter and lonely?
@@iriscollins7583 Hey Iris, 83 years young. Good to see someone of your generation on YT.
I tried so so hard to get my mum to embrace the internet and such like. Alas she just didn’t get it and had “no use for it” ( her words ) it took over a year to persuade her to have a mobile phone. 🤣
Anyway Iris have a good Christmas, seasons greetings and all the best for 2022. 🏴
Fantastic images, great addition to the impressive Lakenheath inventory
I love the fact i live between lakenheath and the welsh training area
Ive seen b2’s, b1b’s, f35’s and ospreys
And man do you know when a b1 is over your house..
Being stealthy, will they do the Mach Loop? That would be a sight to behold!
Ostentatious video mate
Love the "run and break"
Looking at them F-35 jets at the start flying over looks truly awesome.
Lovely stuff mate!
In 1986 when I arrived in the UK Lakenheath had F-111's. They had just bombed Libya. Then the F-15 arrived while I was still in the UK. Now F-35's? Time flies. However, that KC-135 that brought them over is probably older than I am.
Fantastic video love it so can't wait after the new year to see them 😀👍👏👏 it's going to be so so bissy at Lakenheath now with the F-15 eagle's and F35 now there fantastic 💖
Fabulous video mate! 😎
Fabulous video mate 👍🏻
Brilliant Vid. Impressive.
Wow 🤩
Worked as an inspector on the F35 lightening II aft fuse and empennage at Samlesbury, Lancashire, for quite some years now. Not a single flypast yet, let alone a trip for any of the shop floor to visit an F35 location in person. Some form of recognition would be nice : p
Why? Your are only doing a job like everyone else.
Excellent
Great video
At last, the best variant of the F-35 is in the UK.
It's just a shame they belong to the USAF and not the RAF!
Fortunately we are all good friends then, right? With Russia and China's escalating belligerence as of late I would wager this is merely the first bit of advanced kit to be forward deployed with our friends in harms way.
Very nice ! 👍
So I can expect them to wake me up on Saturday mornings like the F15s do? I live on the Lakenheath flight plan.
I wouldn't even be mad.
When do they fly on a Saturday? I live on the flightpath as well.
Top Guns
I have seen much published on the capabilities of this fine aircraft - no one mentioned it had indicator lights on the wing tips in the low down - standbye foes of the west !!
cheers
The RAF really wanted these. Should have bought 80 to equip 6 squadrons.
Get your wallet out then !
Why? they can do nothing that the Eurofighter can do better.
@@georgebarnes8163 ?
@@Achromania The RAF already have the superior Typhoon, why would they want a slow less capable F35A? the RAF have already been lumbered with a handful of useless F35B lemons, no more Thanks.
I stated that the RAF could do with some A's to replace the ageing Typhoons and all I had wad abuse 😂 nice to see these arriving
nice
To all the Canadians who thought that Canada has just received some brand new fighter jets...
These are American jets stationed in the UK...
Better luck next time...
Hopefully one of them will take out Putin. Glory to Ukraine🇺🇦🇺🇸
Strange shape, but I suppose we'll get used to them
Anyone any idea when the next batch is arriving?...
Sometime early in the New Year I’ve heard.
➖🎟🎟➖. I want to see tight formation flying or the lot of you are grounded. Clear.
Better in the Air / ground than in the sea...
Out of interest, who’s responsible for delivery? Will it be an RAF pilot in control or….?
These are USAF planes not RAF
Generally speaking, the RAF aren’t responsible for anything that goes on at Lakenheath.
Why did they all go around on there first approach?
What's the difference between A and B
A varient is for the Air force of the US and other airforces for air superiority. A is faster, varrys more fuel and more payload.
B is vtol. Vertical take off and landing.. Used by Royal navy, US, Japan, Italy. Shorter range, less fuel and less payload. Royal navy use B in a roll on landing so their jets can carry the same payload and fuel without the need to dump weapons or fuel before landing vertically..
US navy for it big carriers use C verient which is built solely for carriers operations.
@@freedom14639 thankyou would c not be appropriate for the Queen Elizabeth carrier
The B variant is actually STOVL. Short Take Off and Vertical Landing. It’s too heavy to take off vertically and just not efficient enough, which is why the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers have a ramp at the front of the deck to help with the lift.
The C variant is specifically for the US Navy, at the moment. It is CATOBAR - Catapult Assisted Take Off But Assisted Recovery. Essentially, how most aircraft operate from aircraft carriers. A takeoff with a catapult and a landing with arrestor gear, like what you see in Top Gun!
Hope this helps :)
I know a guy who works there.
I know many guys who don't
i know loads
Gosh! I'm impressed.
I know a guy who swears he's Elvis!......
All part of NATO strategic defence!
The police did lol
Isn't it F35-B? The RAF only bought them.
They're USAF.

Ameriçan airbase had to go once there was Ameriçan police cars there, had guns also
Good luck with the terrible noise machine
Go home USA!!!
Stop using American social media!
So, where do your loyalties lie?
Lots and lots of $$$$$$$"$$"$$$$$$$$$%
Ugly little things aren't they.
Why does the American Tax Payer have to fund Britain's defence?
The USA does not pay for our defence, those aircraft are there to support US Land forces based in Europe, we have our own defence, both are part of NATO,
Don't think the USAF does much defending from Lakenheath.
More likely to use it as a launch site to bomb somewhere far away!
SO these are US jets and not british. weak as fk RAF
🤔 the RAF has F35s?!
@@JammyDodger45 Royal navy only. 35b
@@freedom14639 - wrong.
The RAF also has them. The RAFs 617 Squadron operates the F35 out of RAF Marham with 2 other Sqns due to stand up as aircraft arrive.
@@JammyDodger45 raf will operate 35b there is no order for A or C varient. B ONLY. 128BS with 24 already delivered. Including 3 state side.
