dude this don't fit with zelda, zelda aways was a anime light fatasy games franchise that's since the 80s! even the darkest ones weren't that dark or that realistic, you guys need to understand that every franchise has it's basic characteristics and zelda ones ares no exeption, dark realism have nothing to do with zelda in the same way that cartoon or anime light fantasy has nohing to do with dark souls, zelda is not dark souls
budget, also due to the 90s Mario movie, they kinda shyed away from Nintendo movies. hopefully Illumination can do justice to Nintendo. idk, Mario was too wacky for me. Zelda is more serious and if they make Zelda goofy it might be another 40 years before LOZ comes to the big screen. after 40 years, idk how LOZ will be run. BOTW and TOTK was a major shift and then Satoru Iwata had passed. so it would suck if Imagination ruins the movie. ive been waiting like 15 or 20 ish years. like LOZ is an epic game that even if technology wasnt fully there in the 80s, the music and concept were amazing now that technology has gotten better since the orignal game..... hopefully the American Production company can properly pay PROPER RESPECT to the heritage of a long standing game series. rather than the dumb slap stick comedy of Mario.
So Nintendo as a business went the route of cartoony graphics, instead of investing in powerful gaming hardware to run the most realistic graphics like Sony. And I can tell you realistic 3d is much more work and development time and thus budget than cartoons, especially the creative work of walling off the high-detail areas in ways which allow the map to perform at high FPS. Plus the open world would burn way more hardware power than cartoons. That is also why indie cartoony games on Steam are emerging these days. But nothing is stopping the modding community from creating such models and animations for current games, or even a realistic open world. But the same limits to exploration in Horizon Zero Dawn, the separation of cities from the world map in Skyrim and use of LODs, we will be stuck with them until computer technology leaps ahead.

I loved Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. With all the 'cell-shaded' and cartoony things they made, a dark-realistic one is definately needed. I look to 'Breath of Wild' and people talk about exploring yada yada about it, all I see is a cheap cartoon.

My ONLY two gripes are that it has link with the blue tunic from BOTW, and it can't be the blue tunic from ALTTP because he was walking up to get the master sword. And it had Ganondorf. Absolutely loved the chicken scene and the rendering of the various bosses - especially the floaty eye boi and the turtle dragon

This is what I was hoping for the movie to be. A highly detailed CGI animated movie, with mocap performaces. Because no matter who they cast in the life action film, they will never look like Link, Zelda and Ganondorf from the games. Only animation can achieve that.

The cel-shading was only used in the Hero disappearance timeline (Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Track, Age of Calamity, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Skyward Sword, etc.), the other two timeline doesn't used it. The Link returns back as a child timeline (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Link's Awakening, Twilight Princess, etc.) used a much darker theme and are more realistically approach while the Link failed timeline (A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, Echoes of Wisdom, Four Swords Adventures, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, etc.) used a much lighter theme and is more comical and animated.
Many Nintendo fans/fanboys secretly wish for realistic graphics on Nintendo games, meanwhile they downplay other companies realistic style games by saying Nintendo games are more fun, are better and sell more I know this because I was a Zelda fan myself, long ago 😂

Envying what you don't have is part of being human, imagine when they release the Switch 2, if it has at least the performance of a Steam Deck they will say that the games are better because they run at 60 fps assuming that Nintendo will reuse the same textures that the Switch can deliver. I lived to see a nintendo fan say that fps matters.
