There’s a go fund me for a “twist saber” where he models the hilts after movie characters. You twist the bottom of the hilt to extend and retract the blade. No electronics but the fact that there are more and more products coming out with automatic extending and retracting blades is exciting news for us Star Wars fans.
They're not great, yet. Just like when the lightsabers that we all have and love just got started out, they weren't that great. But look at them now. They are absolutely amazing and at a price we can afford. Give these a year or two, and they will be jaw-dropping cool. They had to start somewhere. I absolutely love your channel, thank you for everything you do for all of us Star Wars and lighttsaber fans. Oh, by the way, I'm 52 and remember watching Star Wars in the theater at 6 years old.
my first lightsaber was essentially a flashlight that connected to a cylinder shaped balloon that was supposed to be the sabre blade, it was at a time when weapon toys were frowned upon so basically we had long skinny balloons that instantly popped it leaked as lightsaber toys. So in a way, that deflating Sabre balloon was the first Auto retracting lightsaber toy Lol
@Jack_Stafford I had the same one you did. Black star wars flashlight with a clear yellow vinal that had to be blown up. But man, it was so fricken cool.
@@lonnymcgee1762 Yes, the inflatable ones! They also sold those solid plastic ones that had aur holes that made a noise when you swung them around. Good times!
I had the original “power of the force” Luke saber in the 90’s. It’s only taken 25 years for lightsaber toys to become what I wanted them to be back then.
That's insane! It reminds me of the original 1st gen SW telescoping sabers from the 90's, minus the auto function. I think im getting more enjoyment out of seeing your reaction to the power sabers than anything. Keep up the good work, Obi-Dad! 😅😅😅😅
This is pretty much the toy many of us wanted to have as a kid, not bad at all. I hope if they make other models, the hilts for red and green lightabers are a little different and maybe some different sound FX. But overall, this sabers are a blast to the past with some self retracting tech.
I was an 80's kid..... I would have been over the moon for a saber like this. Now I look at this and think how can I fit all it needs into a proffie hilt lol
My birthday was a week ago today. We were at the beach at the time so my mom had gifts sent to the house for when we got home. And she ordered something on Amazon and it delayed and STILL isn't here. She had me guess what it was earlier today and I said "The Power Saber?" And she said yup lol. I'm getting the red one Edit: Red Power Saber Obtained and I have to say this is the coolest lightsaber to ever exist
While being a toy lightsaber, this might be one of the first lightsabers that has the blade come out and go back into the hilt on its own. That's pretty cool
More than pretty cool imo! I grew up with the "blades" that you either had to push back in with your hand or slam into the ground (ruining the brittle plastic tip) haha!
I need one of these things they look amazing but the Hacksmith gets the trophy for the first retractable lightsaber but it’s not a toy or a replica more like an actual lightsaber

Would love to completly mod it over, change out with sound board with a replacement board some ls websites sells for dyi repair. Airbrush the handle dark grey aluminum, some off accent color tape off add black around the grip Gold crome the on off switch. Frost off the blade inside and add a strip of lights or individual led in (keep in mind it has to be able to fold with the blade as it moves out and in. Be a fun project 😊
That is actually very cool. Nothing crazy for the "epic" collectors. But a piece worth picking up. I'm sure disney will be all over this here soon. And your next family trip to the park, will have tons of kids with these in there hands
I still have my set of those Hasbro force action lightsabers released in 2006. They rereleasd the blue one in 2018, called the Rey "spring action" lightsaber in 2018, coincidentally also by Target... they still function, albeit the blades are combat scratched...
Obviously as a version 1, it’s not perfect, but as a proof of concept and just as a toy saber it’s awesome. I can see how a few generations down the line, some miniaturization of the mechanism, maybe figuring out how to get the lights running down the blade, this will be a killer
Can't wait for like version 10 of this. I'd say buy it, if you want a historical first-of-its-kind saber, or if you want to support the company, but otherwise, I'd wait for more r&d, and for more companies to innovate and improve this type of design.
Love your T shirt ..i was waiting to see how this actually would work ..i saw the demonstration but it was in a dark setting ..happy there are more choices ..the price is ok ..
Just saw the Power Saber energy blade product for the 1st time at my local target. Had to come here for this review. Imho, the sound effects could be better.
Hi - liked your video Star Wars Dad and added a subscription to stay up to date on future videos. Nice to know a fellow Dad that's a huge fan of Star Wars. This lightsaber is pretty cool, but you gotta add some sabre fighting roleplay, maybe in a future video?
I just ordered the green one yesterday to see how these are but it won’t arrive for another few days. These aren’t widely available in the UK yet but they look amazing…really putting Hasbro to shame!
Not a bad effort for "first-time" retractable lightsaber that's marketed in retail. It looks kind of toy-ish (even though it suppose it be, for kids!) comparing to that awesomely epic model that Disney revealed some years back for their Star Wars Hotel. I suppose that's still somewhat not reliable enough for market, yet. Hopefully it'll be in the future.
Great video as always worlds first retractable toy lightsaber looks nice but the price is somewhat fair I wish they sounded different to and hearing the motor is understandable since it’s a toy
I just ordered the green power lightsaber. It reminds me of the original Luke Skywalker POTF lightsaber that Hasbro/Kenner made in the 1990s. This will make a great cosplay item.
These lightsabers are great obviously but in my opinion the sound is too loud. If they make retractable lightsabers with a little bit less louder sound, a more accurate sound and hilts with star wars designs it's gonna be, without a doubt, the best lightsabers in the world. Except if disney solds there retractable lightsaber or if someone create a real lightsaber (with a plasma blade(like in the movies)). Have a nice day Ps: I'm a french teenager so if I've make mistakes please tell me where are those mistakes. Thanks! And I love your videos stay on that way.
Pretty cool, I would be frothing at the mouth for one of these if they came out when I was 13. Hope they can get a little brighter & faster in future editions. And of course, a few extra inches would always be welcome. 😏
This seems like a really fun toy and the design is kind of kool, like a mix of the Lego Saber Hilt and some of the simpler ones from both Jedi Academy and KOTR. A little toy like, but honestly that is a good thing, I would love a replica quality one. But if we are being real fans, and using the force right, this seems way more fun to me. I would enjoy playing with this more than any lifelike saber, and I enjoy the life like ones, have a few. But this would just make my inner child sparkle every time it extends with me pushing a button, flicking my wrist is not the same, nor is seeing the led light up from hilt to tip, but seeing a blade really extend and retract, that makes me giddy and feel slightly aroused.

In terms of tech and sound, thats way better than the toy lightsabers Hasbro makes
The Elite FX still look better, but they are of course more expensive.
@@DMSL2007 True, but if you're a geek for the retractable saber and motion sounds, these seem worth the money! I'd rather have these and call it a day

Wow the 7 minutes of suspense before you ignite the lightsaber is real 😂
I saw this at Target the other day and was intrigued. I was most surprised it wasn't a Hasbro product.
Not bad, this is a good start into the realm of retractable sabers. May not be the first one, but it is the first commercially available one.
While it’s pricy, it’s a better deal than Black Series sabers

Frosted white saber blade with led strips along the inside would make it look so much better
Give modders a week.
To be honest if we never got the real thing, I’d be pretty content with this. This looks and sounds incredible!
Honestly if the blade was slightly longer, had brighter LEDs and possibly a less telescoped blade this could be the coolest lightsaber toy
