    What a wonderful video. The scenery and the images you took are spectacular. And thank you for proving you don’t need a million-dollar classic to enjoy a road trip. That makes owning and enjoying a classic car more atteignable

      Many thanks! That’s right and actually I think having something too flash/precious would detract from the enjoyment a little bit as you’d be worried about it 😊

    Nice video and the car looks great. I sold my 1969 MGB GT about 5 years ago now and i miss it lots. I brought it over to Germany with when I moved here in 2010 and my wife and i used it for Classic Rallies, holiday's and weekends away. Plenty of Friday night trips back to the UK (eurotunnel) and then back on Sunday night, ready for work on Monday. It never missed a beat, never let me down and was a great little car for long trips. Very underrated cars and Abingdon's finest.

    Warmest congratulations Mark on both the drive and the quality of the video - wonderful to see the GT being used as a Grand Tourer! Incidentally, my GT also has a noise from under the dash that I've never been able to find. Fortunately, it's over a narrow rev range outside normal cruising revs so it's livable. Doing solo trips like that is genuinely life-affirming! Really looking forward to the next video...

    This series is fascinating fella. And timely. I actually booked a few days at The Ardgour Inn with the intention of me and my lad going there for a few days during half term. But, sadly, we chickened out. As you alluded to in your video, I was anxious that the MGB GT would fail me, and leave me and my son stranded on the M6 and our trip ruined. Im sure that wouldn't have happened, but the worry that it might was enough for me to cancel and we went nearer to home (The Peak District) for a few days instead in our normal car. Less exciting, but at least I got him out for a few days. But your video has really inspired me to maybe do the trip on my own soon enough. The scenery is outstanding. And as a photographer I have to get myself up the next of the woods. And I'd love to do it in the MGB. It needs quite a bit more work though to assured reliability. Also, at 09:10 in your video, is that the Three Sisters? I think it is. Stunning. And thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  10 месяцев назад

      It’s a real worry isn’t it? Even with a car full of tools and spares I was less than confident but as the trip went on the anxiety faded, I’m not sure how I’d feel bringing a passenger, on my own at least I just have to worry about myself and fixing the car in my own time but I’d probably not not risk it with someone else unless they were also interested in old cars and their foibles 🤣 I think you did the right thing and a trip on your own is something else to look forward to 👍👍 Yes scenery was incredible and just got better as the trip went on! Yes three sisters at that point on the left, the car park/viewpoint was just round the next couple of corners I think 🤔

    Thanks for taking us along on these tours. I love those Contigo drink containers. I have one for coffee and one for tea. We only clean with vinegar and water and what that doesn't clean, I just leave and call it "seasoning". Do most oils in the UK come in metal cans? Ours are all plastic. Solvants are about the only thing I can think of that are typically found in metal these days.

    In my youth in the sixties I loved this car, as the most good looking and practical of the MGBs. Myself I had an absolutely horrible produced 1966 Mini, with all the possible faults it was humanly possible and - impossible to add to a car, at the end with a 1275 engine and reasonably fast.
    But luckily it became my one and only British car, as I then bought a properly "finished" BMW2002! Finn. Denmark

    3:38 that seems like an unpleasant engine speed to cruise along the motorway, isn’t it? Out of interest, what is the most enjoyable/bearable speed to drive for a longer time ?

      Haha yes it would be if it was accurate! My rev counter over-reads considerably, I’m not sure if it’s double count or just wrong but I’d certainly not drive at 5k revs for 8 hours 🤣🤣🤣 I’d say 60 is probably the most comfortable for revs/wind noise/actually getting somewhere but I try to keep to 65-70 in order to keep up with traffic, looking forward to bringing out the next video!

    Since I reside in the states, I have a dumb question for you. It’s all metric in the UK but you refer to miles when driving. Are the roads posted in kilometers or miles?

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  10 месяцев назад

      Haha good question! All the road markings are in miles/yards and we buy our milk and beer in pints 😂 but we buy petrol/gas by the litre but refer to miles-per-gallon 😅 it’s a confusing mixture! I think although we’ve broadly adopted the metric system not everything was officially metricated so speedo is in mph and we weigh ourselves in stones/pounds 🤣 thanks for the comment!

      Yes, if you squint a bit, look at the car in the reflection of a spoon and on a darkened night it’s almost similar 🤣 I know what you mean though! It has been called a ‘mini-DB4’ in some classic car magazines I’ve read (in both the styling and the interior feel) but it’s a far cry from the real thing 😢 Still, I think it looked pretty good against the backdrop of the Highlands, thanks very much for the comment!
