I was thinking the same, don't forget the locals will never see the potential of the property.. if he can sell to someone with bug idia it could be the best, airbnb, tourist attraction, its a peace of history, even that colonial house would be ideal as a hotel to be shared by many..

I know a home made the same way, built in the early 70s by a Kenyan couple and it's still livable. Only the roof had to be replaced in the mid 90s.
I have contemplated many a times of building something similar.

These houses and observatory should be turned into a resort and some of the proceeds goes to the owners and communities living in these areas. It would attract alot of tourists form biritish and italian . Also a resort would preserve the houses in top notch condition. They would rehabiltiate the place. Activites can be horse riding, hiking, excrusions to Mt Kenya etc

The advantage, the ownership of the house went to Angaine, who was widely recognised as the 'King of Meru.’ That is why it has been maintained. For the treetop, someone should rescue it. This is a historical monument.

@@gottimaranzano9409 yes, not only in UK that is very far, back in Kenya too, in Lamu, Malindi and Mombasa there are buildings with over 400 years and still standing.

Agreed. The issue with the other house, the former hotel, is that it fell into the hands of people who don't have the resources to maintain it. In any case, because it's a historical site, it should be the government 's responsibility to maintain it.

I like the comment at 12:34 about permission from the DO to cut a tree for construction. That is very true and was one of the protests lodged by Charles Elliot on behalf of the settler community in Kenya to the British Colonial Administration. The Book "No Picnic on Mount Kenya" is a good read on the Italian prisoners of war.
