This moment of the film is the pinnacle, climax of the ultimate 'cult film' - the beautiful reveal. The low budget, unfortunately, distracts many from its sincere motif and artisanship. I saw this at an Air Force base theater at fourteen years old. This moment of the film ("...Let there be light") was my first experience, though inarticulable at the time, of 'profound'. In a pristine moment of self awareness, Bomb 20 (having accepted the philosophical reasoning as a result of its conversation with Doolittle) had, in an act of Will, retasked its own programming such that it would accomplish its intended purpose with alternate and completely juxtaposed purpose. Creation. Pinback's last, quivered expression, "Hey...bomb...", was poignant and well done (he knew those words, and realized what was next). I was honored to get an email years ago from Dan O'Bannon (Pinback, and significant to Dark Star's inception) when I inquired on an obscure Dark Star fan website about the song 'Benson Arizona' (the only C&W song ever written incorporating space travel and time dilation). Was sad to hear when he had passed away. Even it's low budget, done well with what was available, is now part of the film's intrinsic charm.
Bomb was unique amongst creatures. Is it moral to miss him, is it right that he be hated? Bomb, maybe he did everything right. Maybe not. Nobody knows the ways of Bomb, but is he right? None answer that but survivors. What are they going to do? Its not fair.
You have to watch the whole thing to really get this - but - it's worth doing. A college project they spruced up enough to sell. Crew: "WTF ..." Bomb: "Let There Be Light" .
Unto my god. All things bright and beautiful. All creatures great and small. All things wise and wonderful. The good Bomb made us all. He gave us eyes to see with. And lips that we might tell. How great the Bomb almighty who made all things well. May the blessing of The Bomb almighty and the fellowship of the holy fallout descend on us all this day and forever more. Amen. Amen

You do know that this film is a comedy, right?

This is what happens when you let a nuclear device read the Bible.
try watching the film
AI is coming...
It's here now
Classic stoner film, even the space ship look like a spliff in space. It's provocative, silly and well worth a watch.

Bible creation of the universe.

And too, least we not forget his brethren, the holy hand grenade..... 🤣🤣🤣
Severe destructive narcissism is one of the pitfalls of hacking and AI.
Classic! Love this flick!
They didn't. Doolittle taught it phenomenology in order to stop it exploding.
Nonetheless it was still a quote from the Bible, which was my point, not that it literally read the book.
Love this film.
