Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the video. It's true that recognizing and navigating family dynamics can be a challenging aspect of life. I'm glad you found value in the spotlight on stoicism.
@thestoiccommunity Philosophy itself helps me but stoicism is perfect for my position in life. I live back with family at 28 and can't afford my own place alone right now. It helps me tackle my problems the right way and put what I can't do currently out of my mind. Focusing on what I CAN do has been far more beneficial to me than whining about what I can't. Obviously if I don't like what my family lives like then I am not legally obligated to live there and so I mustn't let emotions get to me. Calm heads always prevail and Stoicism has changed my mindset with just the simple concept of what a "Dichotomy of Control" is. Things have finally been looking up as well and i haven't lost my mind or myself doing it.
I’ve felt off about my relationship for some time now , attempted on many occasions to address it , all have been met with gas lighting , brushing me off, turning the whole thing into a joke , or making me feel like the bad guy for bringing it up . I'd had a wonderful afternoon with a stranger while out on a dog walk. I was relating it to an older woman whom I befriended. I mentioned something I'd done at the time which gave me joy, and was surprised at her response to such an uplifting afternoon for me. She shrieked down the phone 'THAT'S NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!!!'. I was shocked. Indeed it wasn't my responsibility... it was my pleasure. She obviously felt threatened I'd found pleasure in someone that wasn't her!!.... and was trying to manipulate me by having a hissy fit to make sure I didn't do it again and burst my bubble of joy. Jealous? It's amazing how people give themselves away.... on both sides. xxx
I must have been born instinctively with Stoic sensory. This video hit on every reason I abandoned my circle of so-called friends and even the job. Most of my life my father has been the one who appears to be supportive however this message literally just opens the box and exposed how he is operating. Wow what a way to open up this am
I can understand how that message must have been a surprise for you. It's not easy to realize that someone you thought was supportive may not be operating in the way you thought. Take some time to process and know that you're not alone in navigating these kinds of revelations.
This is a hard truth to face , when you have been so committed to the salvation of your family, and in the mist of it you slip away from your own, due to the unknown true nature of your relationship, as well as how unawareness will effect awareness. The shock of the truth and acceptance.
I'm saving this to come back to again and again. I never knew there was a name to what I feel I've always been, a stoic. Forty years ago, I got out of a very abusive ten-year marriage. This one pod here I feel will help reinforce courage I still need encountering my Ex who still verbally abusive to me in the presence of our 40+ sons. It's been two years since my grandson's high school graduation, the last time I saw my Ex when he slung a brutal criticism at me out of the blue and our youngest son caught it, flung it right back, defended me, and told him how unjustifiably cruel he was being. Oh, did my heart sing that day! This was the same son who, a few years earlier, ended joint Christmases with his father who would change plans at the last minute without regard for anyone else's schedule-juggling to make the initial date he wanted to get together in the first place. Small victories... 50 years' worth. So, thank you for being here. I appreciate very much that I found you. ❤🎉 ❤
Selective availability is something I didn't realize was such a red flag until now. It's so frustrating being there for someone who's never there for you. This video has given me a new perspective on recognizing and addressing these toxic behaviors. Great advice and very well explained!
Thank you a thousand times for this episode , this episode has giving the power to decide, I been undervalue and manipulated for year and half , leaving me with empty handed. I am free to be me, and to continue to explore myself and gain deeper and deeper self awareness and love of and for myself. I do not care what others think of me, good bad or indifferent or a combination of these. I care about how and what I think and feel about myself. I approve, love, and reassure myself and I declare that I will continue to learn about myself and others and as many things that are animated in this amazing life, upon and in and above this amazing planet, contained within this incredible universe, without overburdening myself, to the time of my death. And I will continue to share this with who ever is also willing to share these beautiful rich values! 👍✌️🙂

I wish I'd heard this 50 years ago. Better late than never but this really gives understanding to what was in my gut anyway that I didn't know what to do with.
I value genuine connections and am gratefully uplifted to find this video and many of these lessons I've intuitively applied over the past handful years especially...gaining solace distancing from those not like-minded...onwards & upwards ✨
I like that point about focusing on what's in your control . I feel like a lot of the time people get too caught up worrying about things they can't do anything about . It can feel so empowering when you focus on what you can do and ultimately change your situation for the better. The only thing that comes from focusing on what you can't control is defeat .
exactly.....when i think about the harm certain people in my family could do if i were more involved with them chills my blood and makes me wonder if i could even apply these principles. There truly is only one solution, and that's to maintain distance; but i'm scared because i know at some point I"ll have to interact with them more. In the meantime i'll just watch more stoic videos, educate myself and work on a plan.
Going through a real spiritual crisis atm. This video was as upsetting as it was massively helpful. It is so important to meet people exactly where they are- not as you perceived them to be. God bless x

I always go thru that list of “ are you really going thru this?” Yep. Yes ma’am I am. It’s a full on love hate of how I feel most of the time. But I know I’ll be good on the other side.
tonight I found that, after multiple favours etc, she couldn't' put my request first...time to move on and focus one myself....these vid help so many times.
I had lapsed into second guessing myself about a recent relationship that I finally left for the third time. The man in question was emotionally neglectful, and despite my efforts to discuss the issue, he carried on regardless and expected that because he said he didn't know how to reciprocate, that made it acceptable. It was clear that he would accept any women who was prepared to cheerfully meet his daily needs, and that he was entitled to such self sacrificing. I've been wondering if I abandoned him, let him down. Thank you for this video... It's valuable confirmation that I have done the right thing.
It's great that you're taking the time to reevaluate your key relationships. It's important to regularly assess and reflect on the people in our lives. Keep up the self-awareness and growth!

Thankyou for your brilliant videos …I love them. I’ve just been through this …not anybody in my real life thankfully but a person through a Machine 🤦♀️ lol…but a Manipulative “Spiritual” Person…not exactly Spiritual in that case then if can use ppl as a stepping stone. I welcome genuine connections in my life.
I live in a world of both subtle manipulation and overt coersion. Thank you for such a practical appreciation of stoic philosophy to protect our minds, joy and inner peace against such insidious attacks.
Same here. Have to always be on my guard. Worth the effort though.

I welcome genuine connections into my life! 🙏🏻❤
I value genuine connections and am gratefully uplifted to find this video and many of these lessons I've intuitively applied over the past handful years especially...gaining solace distancing from those not like-minded...onwards & upwards ✨
I am grateful for this learning; I welcome genuine connections in my life!!!
I like that point about focusing on what's in your control . I feel like a lot of the time people get too caught up worrying about things they can't do anything about . It can feel so empowering when you focus on what you can do and ultimately change your situation for the better.
The only thing that comes from focusing on what you can't control is defeat .
I really have been attracting genuine connections in my life true story 🙏🏿
I've been scared by close family and friends. This is so on point
Thank you for sharing your experience
exactly.....when i think about the harm certain people in my family could do if i were more involved with them chills my blood and makes me wonder if i could even apply these principles.
There truly is only one solution, and that's to maintain distance; but i'm scared because i know at some point I"ll have to interact with them more.
In the meantime i'll just watch more stoic videos, educate myself and work on a plan.
Why do you have to. You can extricate.
family and cousins and friends are sometimes the biggest flying monkeys out to get u////
I'm 54 and have so much to learn....

Wonderful. This should be shared to young people to learn to be stoics. 👏
Going through a real spiritual crisis atm. This video was as upsetting as it was massively helpful. It is so important to meet people exactly where they are- not as you perceived them to be.
God bless x

I welcome genuine relationships in my life
As always thank you! Healing well.
A beautiful philosophy.
This is one of the most powerful videos you've put out so far. Thank you very much.
You're very welcome
I had lapsed into second guessing myself about a recent relationship that I finally left for the third time. The man in question was emotionally neglectful, and despite my efforts to discuss the issue, he carried on regardless and expected that because he said he didn't know how to reciprocate, that made it acceptable. It was clear that he would accept any women who was prepared to cheerfully meet his daily needs, and that he was entitled to such self sacrificing. I've been wondering if I abandoned him, let him down. Thank you for this video... It's valuable confirmation that I have done the right thing.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It takes a lot of courage to recognize and leave a relationship that is emotionally neglectful.
I really cause me to lose faith in true connections ,and seek for it only within myself
What a clarity
Amen
