EPG Ring neurons

Another view of the spectacular neurons of the EPG ring. These cells form a compass-like structure, which is thought to be crucial for their role in encoding the fly's heading direction in the spatial memory circuit. The activity of these neurons can represent the fly's orientation in the environment, signaling which direction it's facing.
