Anne you're adorable 😂 so glad to be in BVIS together! I've always considered starting a RUclips channel for med ill--definitely feeling inspired right now!
Loved this video! I’m currently going into my second year in my undergraduate in scientific illustration, and watching this really helped confirm that Medical Illustration is the path I’d like to take after my bachelors
I'm already an artist i do vet med and the problem i have is not enough stuff is access able to vet student compared to human medicine it's frustrating to me and i really wanna be able to reference my own work when i need to study or create stuff to make it easier for me cause something simple as cow having dystocia i just wanna like a journal info graphic on the entire topic n not have to look at maybe 5 different research paper to get good info.....its like as i do the problems in vet school i wanna document it based....but i don't even know where to start because I'm good at anatomy n drawing but it's the process of getting that communication into a program or on paper is my issue this has helped me somewhat so thanks for posting.
Hi Panda. I’ve always been interested in this field but I’m unsure on how to get there. I’m currently going to animation school, and I have no science background. I was wondering, would I be able to to apply directly for a graduate program? Or, would I need to go back to school again? Are there any other ways for me to combine my degree without going to graduate school?
Hi Fevval! You will need to take a couple years of science classes at minimum to meet the prerequisites for a masters program. You could take the hard route which is to teach yourself the science from textbooks I suppose, but if you skip grad school, you also have to teach yourself how to do good research and communicate ideas. Then you could probably freelance. It seems like quite a few med art studio jobs want you to have that masters in med art though.
Anne you are amazing , your video are interesting and fun to watch. Keep posting such high level content. A small favor , if possible, I would to get some help for getting more info about this master , help for applying etc. Thank you so much!!!
Hi Fouad, here is a link that should be helpful. Under the graduate section, you can find a link to more information about the masters programs. www.ami.org/medical-illustration/enter-the-profession/education
Hi! I'm super interested in this program, but I don't live in Illinois and have no means to move there, but I couldn't help but notice that you were doing your classes online! Is this degree offered online? Or is this just distance learning because of COVID? I wasn't able to find any information about this on the website :(
No, it is only temporary for COVID. However, if you weren't aware, there are 3 other schools that offer this degree in North America, and others in Europe! Maybe you can find one that's closer. Check out this website. www.ami.org/medical-illustration/enter-the-profession/education/graduate-programs
Hi Panda Sprinkle! I really loved this video and your personality 😄! I’m currently a junior in high school and am thinking about pursuing medical illustration in college! Should I obtain a bachelors degree in scientific illustration first and then get a masters in medical illustration? I also noticed that some schools have certificate programs in scientific illustration and I’m wondering do you think doing one of those would be good after getting a bachelor’s degree or is it best to go straight into getting my masters?
Hello! There are many ways to become a medical illustrator. I believe most (but not all!) of us working professionally have a masters in it. Some studios require it. But your path to the masters is up to you! As long as you have the science prerequisites and great portfolio, you can apply. I think a bachelor's in a pre-medical illustration type program will set you ahead of the curve if you go for a masters, but is definitely not required. I don't know anything about the certificate programs, but learnmedicalart.com might have more answers for you. Thanks for watching!
This is the only way I know of: learnmedicalart.thinkific.com It’s not a replacement for a degree in it, but the med illustrator who made the course is very knowledgeable and great at teaching!
Hmm...I've never done an online art course. RUclips has TONS of art resources of course. If you'd like to learn art software, you could try LinkedIn learning. My friends who are starting art have been using drawabox.com. I've also seen Schoolism and Skillshare advertised, though I've never looked at those two. Hope something on the list is helpful.
omg please make more of these, I want to get more into medical illustration but there aren't many videos on it.

Are they online options for this program?
Right now there are! But only because of the pandemic. I believe they will all be back in person in the fall.
