I used to work in bookies around East London and 75% of my customers sounded like this! Propa'geezas! Even more confusing when they used cockney rhyming slang which some did sometimes.
You need to understand, these are true OG gangsters from the U.K.. Pete, the shorter one, was actually muscle for the mob. These OGs are the real deal. They could still make someone disappear.
They probably still DO; not just COULD. Like you said, they’ve been muscle, enforcers, debt collectors, etc, for the mob, for real. And, maybe scariest of all, they were the “Go To” guys for a number of serious gangland bigwigs and the mob. And “Go To” guys have that title for a reason. You go them when a problem needs ‘fixing’, and you can’t get anyone else who’s guaranteed to do the job properly. And I don’t need to spell out what kind of ‘jobs’ we’re talking about. But it wasn’t fixing a leaking tap (faucet). I’ll leave it there.... For anyone interested in finding out more, one of the most infamous and “successful” fixers/ “Go To” guys, going right back to the 60s’, was London gangster Freddie Foreman. There are tons of documentaries and stuff that mention him, on RUclips. Worth a look. It is fascinating. Finally, This is not idle, “make a quick buck using the ‘novelty’ aspect of being older guys rapping”. Having dug a bit, they were properly mobbed-up. Wow.... nice find......
@@westham535well that footage floating around of them performing ( do one) is to blatant backup vocals and when they tried to rap along, well a five year old could tell the voices on the backup track and Pete and bas trying to shout along were not the same but the gullible are gonna believe what they want I guess 🤷🏽♂️
Uk music (rap and grime) is all about bars so we don’t care if a track is 10mins or 20mins long, it’s all about the art of listening to what styles, punchlines and hype the artist can bring. Some are even an hour long and most are done live with a DJ or just in front of a camera with a beat playing. Back in the days all this was on stage in front of 100s to 1000s of people so if you messed up or said a shit bar everyone would cuss you for it lol. To understand grime you have to go BAAACK
@@BradAndLex much love to both yous 👊🏾 just remember before going into this, just like American rap, grime started/came from the sound system battles waaaaay back in the day where a DJs would showcase his talents on the decks while an MC would do the same on the mic. The aim was to either hype the crowd or kill the other MC with bars. (If the producer or MC killed it the DJ would “pull-up” or “reload” the instrumental which made the crowds go crazzzzy! (Some songs are banned because they’d make people so hype gunshots would go off or fights would start) the slang you hear in the music are basically just Jamaican and African words mixed with normal English.
90s DNB lead the way; loved hearing that staccato rap over those beats; then Roots Manuva with the slow drop beat followed by the quick bars. Haven’t kept track of stuff from the UK for a while, but UK rap is very distinct. It’s great.
I 100% agree with Pete’s voice being described as “crispy”. I’ve loved how he sounds on the tracks since I first heard them, but never could attach a word to it.
Pronunciation and not mumbling words so the references and the words making sentences flow in a nice descriptive matter, a thing that is often lost in rap because a trend of wanting to do it as fast as possible. Theres is not stress and they are actually telling you something so you try to listen to the lyrics in a way you wouldn't do in a song where content is repetitive or not original. I think the shorter one said something in a interview about his accent helping him in a weird way.
Yooo I agree! Pete's voice does sound fried to fuck haha. Also, these bars are FILLED with really deep meanings. It is absolutely wild how much they packed in there. Hop on Genius and take a look. It's insane.
They're 70 so were born 1950 ish. So they were THERE in the 60s as teenagers for the Stones , the Beatles, when THAT stuff was new. Then 30 in 1980 for The Clash, Linton Kwesi Johnson, etc.
IMHO, if you started this with your eyes closed then opened them 1/2 way, you'd be shocked. Watching these old geezers rap actually detracts from what they are doing (due to the shock value and juxtaposition of the rap and the age). Not really my thing but kinda cool.
Lexs London Cockney accent made me fall in love. These 2 Eastenders genuinely sound like this. They did it for a bet with their Granddaughter and did well.
They are well seasoned Veteran Rappers. Because Pete and Bas are musical friends, their history was hard and through the hardship they express their experiences through music 🎶🎶. They got today's slangs from their grand children in fact their grand children introduced them to Rap. They just amplified it with Cockney accent and a hint of Gangster life.
“I jump in a cab, tell the dude to drive faster. I might box-in the Uber. And if he complains, I’m punching the b****rd”. Where did you even find the dudes? I’m in the UK, and I listen to a LOT of music, but even I never heard of them! What a find!!!! Nice work!!

You need to check out some of their other tracks like Speeding, The Old Manor etc. They channelling the old English gangster vibe - see films like The Gentleman, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrells, Snatch.
Wish for Brad to open up and listen to the metal songs like he does this stuff here. In all Brads metal reactions you see him closed up, walled off, trying to be intellectual instead of feeling the musicianship and emotion like Lex does.
