I enjoyed 1989 Topps as a kid - and still like the look. I spent more of my time in 1989 chasing the Ken Griffey Jr cards in Upper Deck, Donruss and Fleer. Fun break as always!.
The '89 sets was what started my collecting. I was 10 years old and just started earning an allowance from my parents. I was already a huge fan of the game so I started using my allowance to purchase cards and these were the first pack I bought, along with the Fleer and Donruss sets. Watching you rip these open really brought back the memories. So glad you started the Throwback Thursdays. This is my favorite series right now. I just watched a video of your brother breaking a '93 Bowman box looking for the Jeter. No luck for him. He mentioned trying to go for the Rivera rookie in '92. I do have a sale on my E-bay right now selling my '92 and '93 Rivera cards as a lot. Sale ends tomorrow. Thanks again for all you have done in bringing back collecting into my life.
I despise anyone who says this set is ugly. Absolutely love the color schemes and the font is iconic! That 89 Jose Canseco card is the most underrated card in history!
The Montreal Expos (going by your avatar) uniforms were nice. I would have still called them "Expos", but just flipped the tricolor 'M' and changed the "Montreal" script on the grey jersey to the similar "Washington" font as is now. Nationals uniforms are too erratic and the red / navy combo in baseball is a bit too common. Red cap, navy cap, red and navy cap, so many different jerseys and the alternate "DC" logo. Can't keep up.
These are my favorite designed baseball cards. Such an elegant lookin card. Just simple and sweet without any crazy designs and flare to it....the way a card should look
We love frank a lot. He is still living in the playing he did. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 to god for making frank Robinson in the 1st place. Point to the heavens everyone the reads this comment
I know this guy is good and he makes everyone wanna collect. I’m working a couple collections little Baseball,Football and old Basketball cards ! Thanks for the show we appreciate you ! Rob
Brings back lots of memories, the days when you could find a pack of cards at any store in town. The only difference for me is that the cards I could buy at the store were O-Pee-Chee. The set was about half the size of Topps, and there were only 7 or 8 cards per pack.
Another wonderful throwback Thursday video. This was another set I bought a slew of wax, cello and rack packs during the spring and summer of 1989 while in high school. It was over produced but not a bad set now with HOF and a few decent rookies. I have the Bob Welch error. It is missing on the back "Complete Major League Pitching Record" above the stats. I think it's now valued at $10 bucks in Beckett.
That along with 1989 Donruss were the first ever packs I got back in '89! Fun Fact: Mark McGwire's 1989 Topps card correctly predicted how many HR's he hit in '98 ('89 in reverse)!
You should show some of your Frank Robinson cards and show some of his stats on a video. I am sure your viewers do not realize just how good Frank was. He was still playing when i was a little kid watching baseball. He had some of the best seasons EVER.
The first real set I remember trying to put together as a kid. Something about this set brings all the feels. I want a box for my birthday this year. Hopefully I get one. I'll be 38
I love the script design on the 1989 cards, I really liked it when Topps used it for an insert set a few years back & they did mini die-cut versions with modern stars. Ironically, as I watch your video, the high winds of Storm Erik are battering at the windows!
Been going thru my dads old baseball cards and found that I have just about every single card in the 89 topps set except Sheffield and Griffey, good to know that Griffey wasn't actually in the base set, must be why I don't have one. But great video!
I want to thank you for working hard on these videos and live streams. I know you hear it all the time but this is the first thing i do when i open my auto shop every morning. See what Jabs posted. Have a good day buddy, its cold again.😒 love this set even though its inexpensive, love Henderson, Ripken and Rose. Those guys were workers 100%!
Nice Tim Belcher gold cup card. He's the only "modern" card I have. We grew up together in the same small town in Ohio. Always a very nice guy and he still lives there.
Good call on the Sheffield batting stance! I used to imitate him, Canseco and Eric Davis with their unique batting stances / bat wiggles. McGwire as well with his pigeon-toed stance.
nice picks from that 89 box. The Sheffield card #343 is $1.50 in this months Beckett. I WANT THAT 1954 MARTIN CARD. I can add it to my 1953 Whitey Ford and Bob Cerv card.
I was just coming out of the military in 89 so I have no recollection of buying 89 packs but....I did hang out in my local card shop selling, trading and buying cards with Jeff who I had gone to school with.
Not the first year I started collecting, but it was the first year I was ever able to get a full factory set. I remember the (I think) Christmas when that happened. I was so happy! I was 13 years old at the time. I stopped collecting pretty much after getting the 1990 factory set. Good times....
I remember buying my first pack of this. I was super excited that I completed the 88 Topps (still own) that when I saw the 89 come out. All my allowance was spent on packs
I am a little older then you and these are the cards i grew up on and it's a shame they made so many to make them almost valueless in terms on money but valuable in terms of educating newer fans of the players who helped pave the way for the players of today. Also there were some cards on the bottom of the Box you could have pointed out but just a small thing but thanks for the Video
I bought one of the Fairfield boxes at rite aid the other day and easily got my money back. Aaron Nola RC, Bryce Harper gold cup card (I previously got his RC in one of these boxes) and a Michael Saunders signed card! Along with some hall of famers/cool inserts. Box also had a bunch of 89 Topps cards haha
I started collecting a while ago and stopped but you got me back into this but I have a card that I know is valuable but don’t know how valuable, it’s a Justin Verlander 2006 Topps All Star Rookie Patch
Opening 1989 Topps is like entering a vehicle driving down Memory Lane.
I love it. Watching a 1989 Topps box break while....sorting 1989 Topps.
I enjoyed 1989 Topps as a kid - and still like the look. I spent more of my time in 1989 chasing the Ken Griffey Jr cards in Upper Deck, Donruss and Fleer. Fun break as always!.
I dont know why it's so satisfying seeing the box popped up and full of packs but man it really is!

That Rivera rookie is one of my favorite cards in my collection
@@JabsFamily It ended up going for $55. Not as much as I wanted but I'll take it. My favorites in my collection are mostly Griffey, Ryan and Ripken.
I despise anyone who says this set is ugly. Absolutely love the color schemes and the font is iconic! That 89 Jose Canseco card is the most underrated card in history!

Really like the 89 Topps and the 4 cards on the box bottom!
Brings back lots of memories, the days when you could find a pack of cards at any store in town. The only difference for me is that the cards I could buy at the store were O-Pee-Chee. The set was about half the size of Topps, and there were only 7 or 8 cards per pack.

My favorite topps card front designs of 80s and 90s.
Love the random facts. Wish I had this box when I was young

Very fun break, I like the design of 89 topps.
BTW as a Phillies phan I’m hyped about reulmuto
Satellite station! Throwback Thursday cant be stopped! ✊
Love the 89 Topps design!
I'm loving throwback Thursday. Memories!! Thank you for the video.
Awesome through back video that is awesome that that was your first baseball card pack
1989 Topps is a classic. Great throwback! 👍
Wow! The follow the flip is ready coming together real well!!
Love these throwback videos!!
I like the look of the ‘89. I just found a Smoltz today for 75 cents! Can’t wait for the Mantle in FTF!
That Mattingly card for FTF looks really sharp
Topps made some good looking cards back in the 80's. Even the Topps 40, although pretty basic, were super clean looking when perfectly centered.
Been going thru my dads old baseball cards and found that I have just about every single card in the 89 topps set except Sheffield and Griffey, good to know that Griffey wasn't actually in the base set, must be why I don't have one. But great video!

That's pretty awesome to hear that I'm part of your morning routine. Thank you very much for watching!
I couldnt ever as a kid get the Greg Jefferies rookie card. I remember needing it so bad.
I like how you tell stories of your life between packs and news about baseball but anyway breat video!
Awesome! Great year for collectors even now. Much love
RIP Frank Robinson. 1989 was the year I started slowing down on card collecting. I don't have many cards from this set
Love seeing those old names. Too bad my Marlins weren’t around then
Yup just 4 more years!
The 1989 Topps cards are what got me into collecting
Nice throw back break. You make breaks interesting with your knowledge of the game. Have fun collecting.
Aaahhh the good old days⚾️🔥
Loving throwback Thursday.
Thank you so much I miss opening this a lot too, was one of my first box to open as a 5 year old. Hope all is well!!!!
One of my favorite cards in 1989 Griffey jr Upper Deck. Love that card.
My son and I just opened some of these and 1988. Got the Randy Johnson. I opened a ton of these back in the day.
These were my first packs as well. So many memories seeing you go through these packs.
Probably in my top 3 sets from the ‘80s
Nice Tim Belcher gold cup card. He's the only "modern" card I have. We grew up together in the same small town in Ohio. Always a very nice guy and he still lives there.
Even though they made millions of each of the wax era cards. It's still great pulling HOF rookies.
Awesome box! Great stuff Erik!
These were awesome when I was a kid
Good call on the Sheffield batting stance! I used to imitate him, Canseco and Eric Davis with their unique batting stances / bat wiggles. McGwire as well with his pigeon-toed stance.

Great video. I love all the info you share. Sure helps with my renewed collecting.
Love the design of 89 topps
Joe Mansmann me too
Not the first year I started collecting, but it was the first year I was ever able to get a full factory set. I remember the (I think) Christmas when that happened. I was so happy! I was 13 years old at the time. I stopped collecting pretty much after getting the 1990 factory set. Good times....
Thanks for the videos everyday!
Thank you! Just opened your letter for FMF!
89 topps are also the first set I ever bought and it got me into collecting also.

Just ordered this on amazon hoping for some good cards!
i love throwback thursdays!
I certainly remember opening these from the Mini Mart down the street.
I remember buying my first pack of this. I was super excited that I completed the 88 Topps (still own) that when I saw the 89 come out. All my allowance was spent on packs
Love that dale Murphy rookie card from 1977 topps
Awesome trip down memory lane thank you. Reminded me why I collected so many yrs ago
Looking forward to tomorrow’s Fan Mail Friday. I’ll send your package in a few weeks

Keego’s Sports Cards the design is awesome
I am a little older then you and these are the cards i grew up on and it's a shame they made so many to make them almost valueless in terms on money but valuable in terms of educating newer fans of the players who helped pave the way for the players of today. I got that Dale Murphy card autographed
Kevin Miller awesome
Nice section of cards for FTF
What got me started was a pack was a '87 Topps and I looked for the Jose Cansaco.
Yeah Ricky Jordan - was so excited about him when he came up
gary sheffield underated. who else agrees?
The cards for ftf are very nice!
Nice Throwback Thursday.
Enjoyed watching Sheffield hit back in the day. Javy Baez has a very similar stance and swing when he was coming up
The card that got me into collecting was the 1986 al bumbry
cal ripkens record is nuts. i cant see that record ever being broken.
glad u got a second johnson card!
Love that Gary Sheffield card!
1989 Topps looked cool.
I love all of your video's
Awesome video keep up the good videos
Big fan of the 89 Topps design
I am 3 cards away from completing this set: Ron Gant, Steve Avery, and Ty Griffin.
That was awesome that you where at your parents house
Really like 89 topps design
I bought one of the Fairfield boxes at rite aid the other day and easily got my money back. Aaron Nola RC, Bryce Harper gold cup card (I previously got his RC in one of these boxes) and a Michael Saunders signed card! Along with some hall of famers/cool inserts. Box also had a bunch of 89 Topps cards haha
I found that Bichette the other day in my house and it was all bent up not happy to say the least lol
I was so excited when you pulled for me the Sixto Sanchez auto in a break. Now he's gone :(
Erik I love your videos they are so entertaining and always good content and I hope you are feeling good keep up the good work
I definitely recommend saving the gum and trying to chew a stick or two when you are calling in sick to work. Trust me, it helps!!!
My dad bought me the complete 1989 Topps for my 12th bday way back in '05 haha
love the 89 design
I started collecting a while ago and stopped but you got me back into this but I have a card that I know is valuable but don’t know how valuable, it’s a Justin Verlander 2006 Topps All Star Rookie Patch
I like 89 tops. I gotta find some for my grandson to open.
Thowback Thurdays are Great!
Would like to see you chase a 91 Elite like Jon.
