I would go with an offset flail mower or find a syckle bar mower used preferable It will be a stop gap and you may like it. The mower is not cutting as good as it could because you are blowing into uncut grass, which does not allow under the mower deck to clear out., As stated by others the spindles may be worn and needs to be checked

Sat Morning coffee time with Lumnah Acres family :) Love your videos .Stoney Ridge Farmer has some good videos on mowers I think the flail mower would work best for your needs. Have a Blessed week :)
All on that mower you need a spring hook to remove and install the belt. You could easily make one. You use it by stretching releasing the idler spring, then the belt will easily slip on and off. Then you can use the hook to stretch and reinstall the spring. Some Idler spring arms require a 1/2 or 1/4 drive breaker bar. Some will need a socket to slacken the idler pulley.
Thanks for an update on the fish. Pond looks really good ... That grass is doing great ... Looking for to some building projects and the solar power system!
Al, some of the grasses are like strawberries. when you bend them over from mowing you crack them at the joints press them into the ground which allows them to form roots and new plants.
Al, just a thought about your mower belt. One of the reasons that the belts shift off the pulleys is excessive play in the mowing spindles that turn the blades. You might want to check to be sure that the spindles don't have too much (any) slop in it. And, the spring on the mower deck should be attached to a lever (of sorts) ... move the lever and you won't be working so hard to put the belt back in position ... In fact, the belt should be slack ... as it fits over the shaft pulleys.
You will probably need two mowers plus the Kubota 1. A bat wing type for pasture and all the new ground you open up 2. And a big 3point hitch finishing mower for the long drive ways . And the Kubota for all the around the new buildings that you will be adding to you new property.

GOOD MORNING AL! I was head of the building and grounds for our local school district for the last 28 years. As far as our grounds crew, when I took over we had a flail mower and some old riding mowers. No one would use the flail mower because it was a maintenance nightmare. As the district grew we started getting zero turn mowers and I bought a bigger tractor. We also had a small kubota tractor with a belly mower. Currently I am running an enclosed tractor with a 15 foot finish mower. The finish mower is awesome for lawns but not to great when the grass gets up to high. When we had our 400 acre farm, I ran a 10 foot drag type brush hog and had my zero turn for the yard and fence rows. I used Grasshopper brand mowers at the School district and the farm. Grasshopper was my choice of the zero turns because the deck was out front which made it super easy to service and you could mow up under bushes and fence rows. O by the way, the girls love the big tractor as much as the boys. Just my cents, Thanks! Lonnie in Arkansas
I didn't know they made a zero turn with the mower deck out front. That seems like a really good design. I'll have to look at that. We only have 3 acres to mow but my husband uses a walk behind mower. They don't last too long because we have a lot of trees to cut around too. Maybe a front mover deck mower with zero turn would work better in the long run.

I recall decades ago taking horseback riding lessons at a Kentucky farm operated by a former Olympic competitor from Canada who mowed his fields and I thought it odd but our farm was just chickens and 3 cows.
I’d suggest two brush cutters. One the same with as your tractor for tight spots(trails) second one the widest your tractor can handle for wide open spaces.
Hi Gina, If you haven't thought of it yet, you can always use your chopper for you mushrooms when you want. I do that quit a bit and it works out well. Have a nice day.
I think the KABOTA is the best choice for the first mow because it’s lighter than all the new machines so it’s less likely to sink in the muddy areas. Call the new building “The utility shed”. Consider talking to other farmers in the area. I’ve heard of multiple farms combining funds to buy a combine when they couldn’t afford it alone. I particularly enjoyed the way that the mushroom chopping was shot/edited. You guys always find a way to make the visuals of doing the same things feel fresh
Good Morning!! Thanks for another great video of the Homestead. Boy your grass is coming in great and will eventually fill in as it produces its own seed. On what kind of grass mower for the fields I would suggest going to a Brush Hog. I work at a golf course that has lot of fields surrounding it along with other properties the own and maintain. They tried the Flail Mower years ago thinking it was better than the Brush Hog. They found it to be more of a maintenance problem than it was worth. They went back to the Brush Hog and have been very happy with it. God Bless you and your wonderful family.
Doreen Duncan , I also admired the pond. A picnic shelter ? Knowing Al , he will build an all out gazebo , with a built in grill , and sitting benches !
You should check a video on how they smooth the ice on an ice rink. There is no over lapping and no backing up. It is a racetrack pattern where it keeps widening with each revolution. Would save you all the backing and cutting tiny areas.

Depends on what you want to do in the future. We use a sundown 135 drum mower for haying. If you cut early it mows like a lawn mower. And it's offset so roadsides are easy
Al, I have mowed or been in charge of the mowing crew for multiple airfields, we use batwing mowers behind tractors about the size of your TYM, ideally we would have something bigger... But they work.
Al over on Cog Hill Brooks uses a brush hog to mow their 40 acres you may want to go watch one of their videos they are doing the same thing you are, saying and going bigger. The one she got fits on her tractor I think it's the same as yours.
Hi, It can handle tall grass if You follow a pattern in mowing. Scout for stones and bumpy parts of land. Mark them by flags. Keep movement counter clockwise starting from peripheral areas cropped into a oval shape field. Cut grass should fall to right on mowed area and grass to be cut should be on your left. Check blades and belt once every 30 minutes and clear any grass debris.

I think your mower is 60 inch not 72. I made a chain veil to hang over where the grass it thrown out. The veil will slow down sticks and rocks from flying so fast they could break something or injure someone. As a plus, the veil will help chopping the cut grass finer so it breaks down faster.
A suggestion on increasing the water pressure for the off grid, build a small rock pond where the pick up is with the pick up near the bottom. I think if the inlet pressure was higher it would increase the outflow pressure as well. It gives you a use for some of those rocks. Thinking if you dig it out all you’ll end up with is more sand and mud in the tank unless you remove the pick up tube, dig it out, let the water clear before reinstalling the pick up tube.
@@jackpatteeuw9244 I don’t think he is looking for forty psi and is looking for a better pressure. With only an inch or two below the surface it only has just short of 15 psi of gravity working on it and that is at sea level as you gain elevation that 15 psi is reduced. So having more water over the pick up will increase the pressure on the column of water above the pick up which in hydraulics pressure is equal on all surfaces. With a higher pressure coming in it will also give a higher pressure down stream to his hydrants. Now if he had used an eight foot faucet as the first one and a ten foot faucet at the next that too would have increased pressure from the fall in elevation (cistern to faucet), yet he cut only a slight drop in elevation over the entire length. Rather than dig up the line my suggestion will improve pressure only slightly, yes, which is all Al was looking for. And it is a quicker and more economical way of achieving what he is looking for, slightly better pressure….not a forty psi that is or would be close to what his system design would possible fail at connections, forcing him to then dig up each faucet and add an additional hose clamp (20 psi being one clamps max working pressure). Ok, so you put two clamps on it all the next weak link is the hose itself, doubt it was designed for forty psi, and if it is, even your house doesn’t run at forty psi as the joints on copper pipe would fail.
@@kevinhaley8625 If only reason I mentioned 40 psi is that is about typical city water pressure. If he want to clean equipment, he will need that. Any pressure washer also needs pressure and a flow rate of 4-5 GPM !
@@jackpatteeuw9244 for pressure washing maybe a pickup pump lowered into the cistern to feed the pressure washer, down side is your dumping dirt and oily contaminates next to your spring stream. It would be possible to add a trench from that stream out to where a barn would be, install a cistern with a well pump to feed the pressure washer and divert the used water into a clarifier so the oil can be skimmed from the surface so you don’t contaminate any soil you wish to plant. Think I would build the barn first and maybe have a slab next to the barn under a lean to with the slab sloped to the center, grated to let the water run off into a clarifier. He has a lot of options at this point
I have a flail mower and I like it. The flail is not suited to really rugged stuff or especially tall grass. I mow every two weeks max, to keep things in control.
I do 14 acres on a bx23s with a flair mower. Fantastic job, just takes a little while. The cutting blades can be changed for up to 1 1/2 small brush. The cut is as smooth as the blades on your mower deck. Well worth the investment. Good luck.
Good morning Gina, Olivia & Al, I see some have already mentioned to check spindles and barrings to see if they are getting worn ! As for type of mower to get for TYM, my thoughts are stay with mower deck on kabota and go with bush hog for Tym. The deck mower for finish mowing and the bush hog for rough and bushy new places !!!
When I ordered my brush mower earlier this year it was on back order also, but didn't take as long as they said. I ordered it directly from the manufacturer. Depending on the amount of surface rocks you have, a flail mower might be the best thing to get for mowing the sides of the road and rough areas, my brush mower already has big dings in the blades from hitting rocks on the surface hidden by grass. A finish mower would make mowing the large grass areas go faster and give you a neater cut, so you might want one of those also.
Nice job mowing, sorry the belt kept slipping off. The pond did look refreshing. I believe I could take a nap out there on a float. Y'all have a Blessed weekend.

Hi Gina,
If you haven't thought of it yet, you can always use your chopper for you mushrooms when you want. I do that quit a bit and it works out well. Have a nice day.
Good morning from Siesta Key Florida.
I mowed yesterday, today will be trimming bushes.

We leave our grass clippings and only dethatch once a year to put compost on the yards. We have the greenest grass all year round. Thanks. God bless.
Why not install a wind power generator on the property. Also have solar panels and batteries for power generation.
The best off-grid approach to power is to have multiple layers, like an onion. Solar, wind & hydro - & use geothermal for heating.

This is valuable advice. Thanks!
I just love that pond. All you need now is a picnic shelter with a grill.
And a pier to fish or dive off of!
Doreen Duncan ,
I also admired the pond.
The aerial view of the pond was beautiful.
Set the tension spring after you route the belt. Yes a mandrel is possibly worn to heat a belt.
Good morning to all!
As many times as you had to put that belt back on,you are now a pro at doing it!!!!
Thanks for sharing your journey with us.God bless you all.
I’m glad it never broke. 😆

Great video, there’s always something about mowing,it’s work but not really it’s so satisfying when finished
Brush hog. Tractor Supply has Countyline 6’ in stock in AZ. I would want a wider cut with all those acres.
I dont know if you read messages anymore or not.!!!!
But check out Stoney Ridge Farmers flail mower he got to pull behind his TYM tracter it would be great for around your pounds.
Al, pick up a used PTO finish mower, you can pull it behind you tractor...
That is what I was thinking. That is what the farmers around here use.

Grass looks good I know witch ever you choose it will worth it. God bless and stay safe.
good morning AL the grass is getting so tall its grown so quickly the area looks so nice and green looking back when it was all bear ground nice job
i think a brush cuter for big areas but small enough for when you need to take it in the woods & zero turn for sides of roads and pond banks
That freshly cut grass on the off-grid property sure makes the remaining stones stand out ... for a future stone harvest.
Al over on Cog Hill Brooks uses a brush hog to mow their 40 acres you may want to go watch one of their videos they are doing the same thing you are, saying and going bigger. The one she got fits on her tractor I think it's the same as yours.
I’d say, get a 3-point hitch finish mower (with no belts). When did you sharpen the blades?
Hi, It can handle tall grass if You follow a pattern in mowing. Scout for stones and bumpy parts of land. Mark them by flags. Keep movement counter clockwise starting from peripheral areas cropped into a oval shape field. Cut grass should fall to right on mowed area and grass to be cut should be on your left. Check blades and belt once every 30 minutes and clear any grass debris.

Something is going bad on your mower deck or something broke.
Oh and that roll bar won't work if it's folded down like that, safety first !
👍🙂🇦🇺
I have 3 mowers 0 turn and a belly mower and a flail had a brush mower but no longer needed but for my pasture area I use my flail mower small branches and roots are no problem and it dose not leave lumps of mowed grass leaves behind really nice mulched grass
Great to see the progress. Love the fact that you jumped in the pond, so true, can't be all work and no play. Goes the other way too, lol. Can't wait to see the new ogp power building and hoping to see you get time to also added a little wind generator and hydro if there's products that are worth using. Hope you have/had a blast with family visiting, especially if ya all catch some fish. Gotta admit I always pray with y'all at the end and I'm usually hungry after watching Gina cook. ☮️ Wheelchair John in Idaho USA 😎
You need almost 100' of elevation to get 40 psi water pressure.
Is it worth letting the grass go to seed then mow. Will help with bare patches.
The property is beautiful! Food looks amazing! Thank y’all!
Nice job mowing, sorry the belt kept slipping off. The pond did look refreshing. I believe I could take a nap out there on a float. Y'all have a Blessed weekend.
